Look at that beautiful Samsung “The Frame” TV in this image: someone is going to win it from this contest. It will come in a big box. Your mission is to come up with ideas for whoever wins it for creative way to use that box. You see, one of Samsung’s themes for 2023 is sustainability for a more environmentally friendly society. To support that initiative, this contest is designed to get more people thinking about making better use of the cardboard packaging that arrives in our homes when we purchase things. Learn more about sustainability and how you can enter this contest for a chance to win this prize.
Samsung TVs arrive with a lot of cardboard
Pretty much everything we buy has packaging. Samsung is working to reduce packaging waste and use more recycled materials in their products. Clearly, large items like televisions must have some packaging to protect the screen during transit. And a lot of that packaging will be cardboard. You can learn more about Samsung’s sustainability initiatives in this article on the blog.
Samsung has held a couple design challenges in the past, asking people to suggest creative ways that their cardboard boxes could be repurposed. This current contest is similar to those. The prize is an amazing “The Frame” TV: it’s not just a television, it doubles as a work of art thanks to its design, integrated software, and matte finish. And in keeping with Samsung’s goal to reduce waste, you won’t be replacing batteries in the remote thanks to the included SolarCell remote.
Inspire Canada to create with cardboard
True story: I was recently invited to a neighbour’s for dinner to christen their new deck. I told them that I was working on this contest article and they said they had a friend, an architect, who made all of their kitchen, dining room, and living room furniture with cardboard he had collected for free. Can you imagine? Actually, to participate in this contest, we want you to do more than just imagine. The objective of this contest is to inspire us to think “outside the box” about the box. Get your family together and brainstorm since you’ll all be enjoying the fantastic Samsung TV prize if you win!
You can easily get cardboard: many stores give boxes away. So get some cardboard. Imagine something you can create using that cardboard. It could be something practical, something for everyday use around the home, something fun for your children, something fun for your pet. It could be something that makes your life easier, something you will use when gardening, or working on the car. The most important part though, it must be creative. That is one of the criteria we’ll be using to judge the winner of this contest. The four criteria that our panel of five judges will use to select the winner are creativity, practicality, aesthetics, and durability of the design, with creativity weighted the most heavily. Learn how to enter right now and send in your submissions before the deadline.
Throughout the contest, I’ll add a selection of the photo entries in a gallery here so we can all feel inspired to create with cardboard!
How to enter
Entering this contest will be fun and you can enter only once. The first thing you need to do is create something original using cardboard. You can use any cardboard that you have (it does not have to be cardboard from a Samsung product). After that, take a photo of your beautiful creation and share it in one of two ways:
- Social post: create a public post on a social media channel sharing with your friends and followers that you created this (explain what it is) from cardboard as your entry for a chance to win a Samsung TV. Include the hashtag #BestBuySamsungTVcontest, so we can find your post, and include the picture of your creation. Then return here and tell us in a comment below on which channel you posted it and the name of your channel (since many people use pseudonyms) so that we can check and verify your entry. You can use any social media channel (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, etc.), but the post must be public so we can verify it is there. OR
- Email: send us the photo of your cardboard creation in an email to bestbuyblog@bestbuycanada.ca with the subject line “Samsung Sustainability Contest” and explain what it is in the body of the email.
What you can win
At the end of the contest, a panel of five judges, members of the Best Buy Blog team, will rate eligible photo submissions on the four criteria: creativity, practicality, aesthetics, and durability. The panel will select one entry as the winner, and that winner will receive a new Samsung The Frame TV.
This contest runs from May 26th to June 16th.
Remember you can enter only once by posting a photo of your cardboard creation either in a social media post or in an email. Though you may have entered a million Best Buy contests in the past (we do run lots of contests each month) this is the first time you had to create something and take a photo of it to enter. I hope you have fun helping us raise awareness of sustainability.
