In order for you to have the best gaming experience on your PlayStation 4 Pro, Xbox One X or PC, it’s important that you choose one of the right premium TVs for gaming. Both consoles and PC can output some pretty incredible visuals in 4K. And, with the next-generation PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X around the corner they are going to take visuals and sound to the next level.
Let’s take a look at the best premium TVs that are great for gaming and will allow you to get the best possible gaming experience.
Three premium TV brands that stand out above the rest
When looking at TV brands that offer features gamers are looking for, there are three clear leaders in this market: LG, Sony and Samsung. All three companies offer premium TVs that are not only great for watching television and movies but also for playing video games. Recent high-end models from these companies offer 4K, and in some instances even 8K resolutions.
Now that we know what brand of premium TVs are best for gaming, let’s take a look at the features that matter most to gamers.
Gaming features to look for in premium TVs
When buying a premium TV for gaming, things like low latency, refresh rates, and HDR functionality are important. However, you will also want to get a premium TV that comes with HDMI 2.1 ports. This new standard brings a whole slew of new features and allows for a lot more bandwidth, going from HDMI 2.0 18 Gbps to HDMI 2.1 48 Gbps. The higher the resolution and frame rate, the more bandwidth is needed.
This means resolutions of up to 10K and frame rates up to 120fps are possible with HDMI 2.1. And, we’ve already seen one Xbox Series X game, DiRT 5, announced that it supports 120 fps. It’s only a matter of time before we see even more.
Other gaming features to look for in a premium TV
Here are other features offered on premium TVs for gamers that you should look for:
- HDR & HDR 10: High dynamic range that offers a wider range of colours bringing more realism, and depth to the image on the TV screen.
- Game Mode & Auto Game Mode: These modes decrease lag by turning off extra video processing on the TV.
- Game Enhancer & Real Game Enhancer+:Â Reduces ghosting and motion blue in fast-moving game scenes.
- ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode): Allows for smooth, lag-free gaming and is otherwise known as game mode.
- VRR (Variable Refresh Rate): This allows the TV to adjust the refresh rate on the screen to match the source signal. And, allows for a smoother image with no screen tearing.
- AMD FreeSync: The refresh rate of the TV is synchronized with the framerate of AMD video cards.
- G-Sync & NVIDIA G-Sync Compatible: Similar to AMD FreeSync but for NVIDIA compatible video cards.

So, we’ve narrowed our choices down to premium TVs from LG, Sony and Samsung. And, we know what “gamer” features in these TVs to look for. Though, there are still quite a few models to choose from. And, for some, that can be a daunting task.
As a result, I’ve chosen a TV from each of the three brands that we sell here at Best Buy, which I feel would be great choices for any gamer.
LG CX 4K OLED TV
From LG, without a doubt, one of the best premium TVs for gaming is the LG CX 4K OLED TV. This TV comes in 55″, 65″ and 77″ screen sizes. The LG CX 4K OLED TV features four of the latest HDMI version ports, which means games like DiRT 5 on the Xbox Series X will run at 120 fps!

A game that looks great on the LG CX OLED TV is DiRT 5
This is the first Xbox Series X game announced that supports 120 frames per second, and I can’t wait to try it. DiRT 5 is a high-impact extreme racer that is bigger, better and badder than all of the previous games put together. Career mode features a deep story and DiRT 5 has a four-player split-screen mode that you can play offline with friends and family.
