The magnetic lav mic and magnetic fill light provide a noticeable upgrade in clarity over distances, in loud environments, and in dark spaces. They’re really easy to use, too; more like turning the flash on on your smartphone than adding a mic to your DSLR.
The Pocket’s fill light moves with the camera. It toggles through three colour temperatures (12 lux, 25 lux, and 40 lux) and three brightness levels (2800 K, 4000 K, and 5500 K) so you can capture the most lifelike video possible.
DJI’s Mic 3 captures audio in four channels with spatial audio. It clips to your clothing or accessories with a spring clamp or magnet.
My experience with the DJI Osmo Pocket 4
As a content creator, I own a lot of cameras—and one thing I’ve learned during my journey is that better isn’t always… Well, better. My go-to standard shooter is far from the “best” camera that I own; in fact, it’s one of my oldest camera bodies.
What matters a lot to me during any act of creation is the joy in it. I like liking taking photos; I like liking taking videos. The experience and ease of using a product matters a lot to me, and I don’t think I’m the only person who feels this way.
Not only did I like using the DJI Osmo Pocket 4, but it produced incredible results, too. I filmed almost an entire review using the Pocket 4, and I saw a huge improvement in the quality, vibrancy, and sharpness of the Osmo Pocket’s video over using my usual Sony Alpha. While my mirrorless camera captured with more depth and far exceeded the Pocket in terms of still photos, the Pocket 4 was demonstrably better at capturing smooth, colour-accurate, high-definition video.
The Pocket 4 has a bright, clear LCD screen, a super smooth gimbal, and phenomenal build quality. Despite being built for a digital world, it’s clearly focused on delivering an excellent manual, mechanical experience, too.
Creator features on the Osmo Pocket 4 that I can’t live without
The Osmo really spoils its users when it comes to creator features. Its 90 degree and 180 degree camera flips are great; its subject registration works very well, and its registered subject tracking is fantastic. The Pocket won’t just film a moving target; it’ll follow you through a crowd—even in a dark room.
This camera’s digital zoom is super smooth, and its gesture controls are amazing. They make it easy to turn subject tracking on and off, and they make solo creation simple with a peace-sign-triggered capture mode.
Need to start your video when you’re half a block away from your camera? Not a problem for the Pocket 4. Want to take a photo while you’re within the crowd? Easy peasy.
The video captured by the Pocket 4 is very crisp, and the camera’s wide gimbal range means that even your forward-facing (selfie) shots are in the same high resolution. I love its ability to capture smoothly even as you transition from back-facing to forward-facing shots, and to move seamlessly from portrait to landscape mode. (That applies to both your shots and your Pocket’s LCD screen!)
One last thing that I appreciate is how fast the Pocket 4’s file transferring is—both via USB-C and over Wi-Fi to the DJI Mimo app. The DJI ecosystem is a lot smoother and faster than what I’m used to with Fujifilm or Sony. It’s convenient when I’m sitting at my desk, but really handy when I’m shooting on location.

Even in busy areas, the DJI Osmo Pocket is small enough and wide-angle enough that it can be held quite close to either your body or your subject.
I recommend the Pocket 4 for anyone who wants to take crisp, beautiful videos with excellent depth and colour accuracy.
