gifts-chosen-by-mom

Mother’s Day is almost here. And, as a mom of four, I’m the guest of honour on this special day. Every year my kids give me two gifts; something bought, and something made, and I love seeing how creative they are with their Mother’s Day gifts. Mother’s Day this year will be on May 12th, 2024, and if you’re looking for something for the mother figure in your life, here are a few gifts you can choose from.

Best tech gifts for Mother’s Day

If you’re looking for a gift for a tech fan, there are so many great devices you can choose.

Gift a smartwatch

Woman wearing Fitbit Sense 2

A smartwatch will track their fitness activity, and with some models, their heart rate. Take the latest Fitbit for example; they have a few all-new features that make it a must-have for anyone who loves to track their runs, walks, or just wants to know what their overall health level is. With a Fitbit, they can track SpO2, calories burned, sleep, skin temperature, and use the on-wrist EDA sensor to track Stress Management Score.

Some models have built-in GPS and voice assistance via Google Assistant and Alexa. I’ve tried many different models of Fitbit and found the brand to be one of the easiest to wear and most useful smartwatches available right now.

Smart displays help with their day

A smart display is one of the best gifts I can think of for anyone. You can set it up anywhere in your home and it works as a crystal clear display, speaker, and voice assistant, all in one.

Google Nest Hub

There are quite a few different smart displays to choose from as Mother’s Day gifts. For ease of use, you may want to choose one that is compatible with their smartphone. I have an iPhone and I brought home the Google Nest Hub. I cannot tell you how much I have loved having it in my kitchen. The second generation of Google Nest Hub has been upgraded to 1024 x 600 resolution on the 7″ screen, and you can watch everything from YouTube to Netflix and Disney+ on it. The speaker has been enhanced for deeper bass and crisp, clear audio, and it’s a central control hub for all of your smart home devices.

I use my smart display to monitor my Nest cams from the kitchen, and I love having it read out the steps to recipes as I cook. It offers a great way to keep your family schedule on track as everyone can log in and add to the Google calendar. If they have trouble sleeping, the new Sleep Sensing will give them insight into their evenings. It will track when they go to bed, how long they slept, and when they wake up. There’s also a Sunrise alarm to slowly brighten the display and help them wake up in the morning.

Kitchen gifts for Mother’s Day

I love receiving small appliances and other cool kitchen gadgets for gifts. They always help me improve my cooking game in the kitchen, and I have a lot of fun using them to cook with the kids.

Air fryer Mother's Day

The air fryer is still one of the most popular small appliances available. Having an air fryer means you can cook pub-style ‘fried’ food at home, but you don’t have to add oil. Everything is served up crispy and delicious. You just have to try making a batch of French fries in an air fryer and you’ll be hooked on cooking with one.

If the person you are buying for already has an air fryer but could use an upgrade, a larger air fryer is a great choice. It has two independent baskets, so you can cook two different foods at one time or use both baskets to cook a large, family-size meal.

You can’t go wrong with a stand mixer

I received a stand mixer on Mother’s Day a few years ago, and I have to say, it was one of my favourite gifts ever. I use it for making bread dough, mixing cookie dough, and whipping cream. It is the easiest way to make any type of batter or dough, and brands like KitchenAid always have great colours to complement your kitchen. I love the pinks and greens, but I’m also a huge fan of the navy KitchenAid stand mixer.

If they already have a KitchenAid stand mixer, one of the coolest kitchen gifts you can buy are stand mixer attachments. You can choose the KitchenAid grinder, pasta roller and cutter, prep slicer and shredder, and many more.

Gifts to complete her style

Jewelry isn’t something we ever seem to choose for ourselves, so it’s extra special when you receive it as a gift. A great choice in necklaces right now is a pendant necklace. You can find them with St. Christopher pendants, gemstones, dog tags, charms, and so much more. I have one pendant necklace I like to wear, and I add to it when I see something that catches my eye. You could give a necklace as a Mother’s Day gift and they can add charms and pendants to the necklace too.

Gifts for self-care

Self-care is more important than ever. With these personal care gifts, they can get a little R&R.

Dyson Supersonic Special Edition Hair Dryer Mother's Day Limited Edition Gift Set

Personal style care

If they keep moving from the minute their feet hit the ground in the morning, the Dyson Supersonic will help them start their day by speeding up styling time. It includes a dryer and 5 attachments, all packaged in a beautiful case they can take along when they are on the go.

Stretching eases stress

Yoga does tone your body, but I find it’s one of the best ways to relax. Stretching eases sore muscles and reduces stress and tension, and it’s a great way to wind down after a busy day.

Help them get a good night’s rest

HoMedics Sleep Aura Sound Machine

Even if they have a nightly routine and try to get as much sleep as possible, it can be hard to get a good night’s rest. There are many different types of sleep aids you can gift for Mother’s Day that can help them rest better.

Is their mattress older and uncomfortable? You can gift them a new mattress with new bedding. Do they feel anxious when trying to sleep? A weighted blanket can help ease anxiety. If their bedroom is located in a place where outside noise prevents them from getting a good night’s rest, a white noise machine can help block sound.

Set the tone with the scent from diffusers

Self-care can mean shutting the door to the outside world, closing your eyes, and just relaxing for 10 minutes. An aroma diffuser can help with relaxation by misting the room with relaxing scents. Some aromatherapy diffusers play white noise and have coloured lights they can turn on to complete the experience.

Insignia 2D Zero Gravity Full Body Massage Chair

Massage chairs offer a spot to relax

A massage chair looks a lot like other chairs you place in your living room, but this chair plugs into the wall and provides a relaxing massage from head to toe. You can find massage chairs with variable programs Mom can run every day, and it will be her go-to chair to help you relax after a busy day.

Gifts for anyone who likes gardening

If the person in your life has a green thumb or just loves plants, there are a lot of different gardening gifts you can choose. If they like to grow fruits and vegetables you can choose an indoor smart garden. There are also small greenhouses for outside or wood planters they can use to plant flowers or vegetables.

If they love to relax with coffee or tea

Breville semi automatic for Mother's Day

During a busy day, every minute matters. If they have a few minutes for downtime, an espresso maker can help them make the most of it. A great choice is a semi-automatic espresso machine that can pour a shot of espresso in under a minute. When they have an espresso machine with a built-in grinder, they will have a fresh cup of coffee to enjoy whenever they have time.

A great companion gift for an espresso maker is an Ember mug. Every time they pick it up they will know you were thoughtful enough to want to help keep their drink warm until they have time to sit down and really enjoy it.

Mother’s day gifts for new parents

If you know a new parent and it’s their first Mother’s day, you can make their day even more special by choosing a special gift.

Baby monitors help with sleep

One of the hardest parts of a baby’s first year is trying to set a sleep schedule. With a video baby monitor, you can check in on your baby without having to go into the room. Some of the latest baby monitors also monitor breathing and have Wi-Fi built-in, so you can use them with an app.

Baby travel systems make transporting a breeze

Getting out of the house can be hard when you have a newborn, and one of the biggest challenges for new parents is when the baby is asleep, but you still need to take them somewhere. With a baby travel system, you never have to disturb your baby’s sleep. You can keep your baby in his or her car seat, take the car seat in and out of the car, and click it into a stroller so you can go for a walk.

Feeding systems make feeding babies easy

With all the different food choices you can give your baby, it can be hard to decide which is the best option. If you know a new parent who’s just moving to solids or switched to formula, you can gift them a food prep kit to make baby food or a formula dispensing machine.

Add a chair to the nursery

A new parent will spend hours sitting and feeding their baby. You can make them a lot more comfortable by adding a comfortable recliner to the nursery. Another great addition to a home with a new baby is a massage chair. A 10 or 20-minute massage session every day will ease the aches and pain they will have from holding and rocking their baby.

Eddie Bauer Places & Spaces Legend Backpack Diaper Bag

Score style points with a new diaper bag

As a new mom, I loved having a stylish diaper bag. It gave me a place to store everything for my baby, but it also looked great when I carried it around. You can give the gift of a new stylish diaper bag, and they will love carrying it around too.

Make cleaning easier

Cleaning is a fact of life for everyone in the family, so why not make it easier for them to manage a big group cleaning day? You can choose different mops and vacuums that are perfect for quick clean ups. You’ll find choices like wet/dry vacuums that vacuum and mop or robot vacuums that clean every day on a schedule so floors stay clean with no effort at all.
