Spring is here and summer is just around the corner, and for some reason this time of year always makes me want to do some home renovations or pick me ups. Doing a big renovation isn’t a yearly project for me (who can really afford it?), but there are some easy and budget friendly kitchen revival’s you can do quickly, easily, and in every room of your house!
The kitchen is a great place to start when you want to refresh and renovate your home. Here are a few tips for reviving your kitchen for the summer.
How to get started reviving your kitchen
My kitchen is always the room that I want to make changes to first, and that’s probably because it is one of the most used rooms in my house and a popular gathering area when family and friends visit.
There are so many things you can do to refresh your kitchen for summer, but I always start with a new coat of paint. I like to use kitchen specific paint because it seems to keep its fresh look longer and wears well.
Another quick fix is adding new cutlery or dishes. Your guests will be sure to notice your beautiful new dinner plates the next time you invite them over. If you are in need of new appliances, summer is the perfect time to take the plunge and treat yourself.
Turn on the waterworks
This year I will just be doing some small renos and we’ve already started with a new faucet. My husband and I installed the new faucet together, and surprise, surprise, we’re still married. Thankfully, we’re a pretty good team when it comes to renovations.
I love a good faucet that offfers the stream and the spray function so when my spray function broke I didn’t last long without it. Kohler makes some beautiful faucets and they are also really modern which works well in my kitchen style. A new faucet is a fairly cheap and easy way (thanks to youtube video’s) to spruce up a kitchen.
Focus on your kitchen design
If you want to revive or refresh your kitchen but don’t know where to start, there are some great apps out there that can you help you with the design element and much more. One that I love is Houzz. This app allows you to see different design ideas, shop for accessories and even find local talent in your community to help you if you need a professional. I think for most people the design is one of the best parts about renovating. At this step you can start to picture what your new kitchen will look like.
Bring in some some sunshine with new appliances
I have been living in my current home for almost 6 years and since my fridge and stove were never my favourite to begin with, I’m starting to get the itch for new appliances. I love the style of my fridge in that it has the french door fridge on top and the pull out freezer in the bottom. I also love having the water and ice cube maker in the door. My water dispenser has since decided to break and even after an attempt at repairing it, it still doesn’t work, so I have been eyeing up the Samsung 35.8″ 23 Cu. Ft. French Door Refrigerator. My sister in law also has a Samsung fridge that I have fallen in love with, and their appliances are so cool and streamlined it’s hard to pick between the two.
Add some shiny new accessories
My husband and sons spoiled me this year with the Keurig 2.0 K400 1-4 Cup Coffee Maker, so with this and my new faucet I’m off to a good start in reviving my kitchen for summer.
Red is my favourite colour right now so I’ve incorporated it in little places such as my dish cloths, placemats, and dish towels. I’ve been eyeing up these Now Designs Jumbo Towels in the red. I love the plaid design and have some red plaid placemats that would match perfectly.
I have also been wanting red pots and pans for years. These Cuisinart Advantage 11-Piece Non-Stick Cookware Set in the red are gorgeous, so when my husband burnt out the bottom of one of my pots I was actually quite happy. I’m sure these will be coming home with me soon.
Increase workspace and storage
Unless you have the opportunity to build your dream kitchen there comes a time when you need more counter space or storage. Depending on the layout of your kitchen, you could easily add more storage space with an island, and a great option if you don’t have the space for a permanent island is a moveable kitchen cart.
This Nexera Kitchen Cart is great because you can use the top as an extra prep area for cooking, you can use it for serving when you host larger dinners, and it offers extra storage space. You can also be creative and add a granite or laminate top to it so it will fit in with your current kitchen decor.
Brighten up your kitchen with new lighting
You can really brighten up a room with a stylish light fixture. They are relatively affordable and you can even be adventurous and include a statement piece like this Gen-Lite Orbit 8-Bulb Orb Ceiling Fixture. I love the mix of modern with the silver orb and classic with the chandelier style interior. A great stylish light fixture can really make your kitchen feel more welcoming and you just may want to spend more time in there.
At the end of the day, don’t be afraid to ask for help or advice, that’s what friends and family are for, after all they will also get the benefit out of your new kitchen when you invite them over for a dinner party or for a holiday meal.
Bestbuy.ca has everything you will need to revive your kitchen for summer in home, kitchen, and dining, so get busy and have fun!
