The evolution of baby gear is almost as quick as that of technology: new innovations are coming out all the time, whether it’s improvements on existing categories, or creative new ideas altogether. Here’s a sampling of the new baby gear coming out in April.
Mountain Buggy Terrain Stroller
Most people can make do with a basic stroller than has a secure buckle, comfortable seat, and is relatively easy to maneuvre. But some require a bit more, particularly if you plan to go for plenty of walks, or even do a weekly hike on the trail.
Ideal for those traveling with baby in both tricky terrain and on standard city roads, the Mountain Buggy Terrain Stroller comes with two rear wheel tire sets – one 16” and one 12” – so you can swap them out depending on whether you’re walking down the street to the local park, or hiking on the nearby trail. The front wheel has a lock forward or lock back mode for jogging, and shock-absorbing suspension. It can easily swivel so you can make it around those sharp corners. It also has a curb pop feature for easily hopping up those pesky curbs. Adjust the handles to your optimal height, from 36.6” to 48.5”. And you can use the hand braking system to slow down, or use the foot brake to bring it to a complete stop. It’s compact and lightweight so you can feel comfortable bringing it along on an outdoor adventure, and folds easily via one hand. Baby will be safe and sound secured within the five-point buckle, and full-sized seat that converts to a lie-flat position for newborns. Keep an eye on baby via the peekaboo flap.
Mountain Buggy Nano 3 Umbrella Stroller
I used a pretty tricked out stroller with my son when he was a baby. But while it folded easily, and was relatively lightweight, it was still clear that in particular instances, a basic umbrella stroller could come in handy as well. For example, when traveling by airplane, visiting an amusement park, or where there are lots of stairs and you’ll have to carry it over your shoulder for a part of the trip.
The Mountain Buggy Nano 3 Umbrella Stroller weighs just 13 lbs. – possibly less than your baby himself! It comes with a travel bag that has a shoulder strap for the times you need to lug it by hand, and is compatible with most car seats, so you don’t have to worry about it working with the car seat in a rental vehicle if you don’t bring along your own. It folds easily in two steps, and meets airline carry-on luggage sizing requirements. And you’ll get plenty of use out of it, as it works with a child up to about age 4, or a maximum weight of 44 lbs.
Mountain Buggy Juno Multi-Position Baby Carrier
Moms and dads are multitaskers. So any time you can keep your hands-free is great. Ever try grocery shopping with a baby in a stroller? Let’s just say it’s not easy, unless you are just picking up a few items! Or maybe you just want to go on a brisk walk with baby. The Mountain Buggy Juno Multi-Position Baby Carrier has four carrying modes to suit your preference: front face in, front face out, back carrying, and hip carrying. There’s an adjustable, weight-distributing waistband and padded shoulder straps and a sternum strap to ensure your comfort, and a carrier panel that offers back support and comfort for your baby. It’s made with 100% Oeko-tex chemical-free fabrcs with a breathable cotton lining. The two storage pockets on either side can be used to carry your smartphone, keys, or credit cards and cash, so you can go truly hands-free. And don’t worry, you can bring along those essential emergency baby items too with the stow-away pocket, which can accommodate things like travel wipes and an extra diaper or two – just in case. Wear it with bambinos up to 44 lbs.
Levana Mylo 5” Touchscreen Video Baby Monitor
I’ve expressed my love of video baby monitors many times, and the Levana Mylo 5” Touchscreen model has some neat features, like a 50/50 split screen view for seeing two cameras at once, two-way communication, and pan, tilt, and zoom functionality. The private digital signal quells any fears about privacy, and temperature sensors and audible alerts ease your mind that the room might be too hot or cold. You can even set a timer to remind you when it’s nap or feeding time. And it comes with pre-programmed lullabies and nature sounds to help your baby go to sleep. Parents will love that they can bring the monitor around the house with them, using the 12-hour battery life (in Power Save mode) and rapid charge option to fully recharge it in 3.5 hours. I like the split screen option, which allows you to continue to use the monitor as baby grows. Maybe you want to, for example, purchase a second camera to place in his playroom.
Beaba Babycook Pro 2X
My kitchen became a regular baby food making restaurant once my son started solids, as I whipped up batch after batch of pureeds fruits and vegetables. I typically used a steamer first for hard veggies like carrots, then a blender to puree creative mixes together. I wish I had had something like the Beaba Babycook Pro 2X, which pretty much does it all. It has a steam heating system, and a multipurpose mixing blade for smoothing out your delicious dishes. With two large capacity bowls, you can even do two mixes at a time – ideal for moms like me who would make several batches at a time, then label and freeze them. The patented steam heating system, says the company, helps lock in those all-important vitamins and nutrients. Set it to steam, then go on with your tasks and it will beep to let you know when the meal is ready. It’s made with BPA, lead, and phthalates-free materials, comes with a spatula, mixing lid, smoothie filter, and recipe booklet, and the latte mint finish will add a nice hint of colour to any kitchen.
