January is a great month to reassess the tech in your home. Technology makes life better. What tech are you looking for? My wife says we have too much tech in our home, but I don’t agree. I believe we have barely scratched the surface of the tech our home should have. Tech is personal. What new tech are you craving

Our blog is a great place to start looking for the latest technology. This month we learn about many of the new products that will be coming to stores over the next year via the Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2018). On the Best Buy blog we have written articles about many of the new things that were announced that we think may arrive in stores this year. There will be new televisions, new smart home cameras, new computers, and much more.

If you are a gamer, you will find review articles on the blog about the latest video games, and descriptive articles about specific components you might need to build a gaming PC. Also you will find many articles about monitors, including the recent one we did about how to set up a 3 monitor gaming display.

3 monitor are better than one, as Steven Hill points out in his article. Even better when the monitors are as amazing as these from ASUS. They have a thin bezel, so your view is almost uninterrupted. They are also curved for a great wraparound experience. I love the scene in the video review (shown in his review article) where he is gaming on that huge display surface. I clipped out an image, but go to the article to see the full review.

So now you are probably thinking, “this would be perfect for my home!”, and you are wondering how to enter. It’s easy … here are the details.

As I said, it’s easy to enter. But you can only enter once. First look around your home and assess your 2018 tech needs. Next, in a comment at the bottom of this article, tell us what new tech your home needs in 2018. Perhaps it’s a new TV or maybe a Google Home for voice activation convenience. Be as specific as you want.

  3. This year we’ll probably buy a new TV because we’re still running an old plasma. Some computer upgrades will be necessary, including CPUs and GPUs, but we’ll wait because the GPU and RAM market is horrible right now. Otherwise, might build a whole new PC too, and new monitors would be fantastic.

  6. Definitely need a new T.V. as my present one is a box from the late eighties and the sound is going as well as a fuzzy picture. I have to sit four feet or closer to watch hockey or I can’t see the puck. LOL.

  8. I have been lost without my Laptop since it fell and crashed!! Cannot be repaired. So with that said I need a new top of the line Laptop. One with a 15-17 in. screen. And I’d love the ASUS 27″ FHD 60Hz 5ms Curved VA LED Monitor to hook up to for game playing.

  9. Oddly enough, 3 thin-bezel (or frameless) monitors are at the top of my list right now! I just upgraded my PC to a GTX1080ti, and now I want to switch to a triple monitor setup to really take advantage of that power!

  12. My parent’s main television is broken. The images always turns red and shakes. I would like to replace with a new TV for them and, since my Father is a movie addict, a new surround system for an immersive experience when he’s watching films.

  15. A transporter would be awesome, but I think I might be a few centuries too early. I guess a larger TV to immerse myself in other worlds.

    • Perhaps at a future CES we’ll get to try one of these: Best Buy will certainly be the place to get it soon afterward!

  21. We are renovating our house this summer and I would love to turn it into a smart home with Google Home or Amazon Echo and the Nest thermostat would be awesome! We are on a farm so a weather station would be awesome too! The gaming monitor would be for my son who loves to play minecraft. His computer just died and we’re waiting on a new one. The monitor would be an incredible addition to it! 🙂

  23. Personally i need to update my gaming PC need more then 8gb of ram for the stuff i do with it
    and graphic cards are slowly getting cheaper

  27. A serious PC Upgrade. Currently struggling with a dying 19″ Samsung monitor, and a 22″ ASUS, which has to share space with the PS4 usage. A new motherboard and CPU, so that game models can be rendered in less than the 4-6 hours it currently takes for a high-poly model. Next reasonable purchase would be a new graphics card, as this one is whizzing away it’s last wishes.

    And if there’s room, a 4K TV for the family so that they don’t get mad at me for never leaving my gaming cave of dreams.

  28. I have never had a home security system. I live alone and as I get older I am starting to think one would be a good thing for me.

  30. Could use a new tv or monitor(s), currently rocking a 32inch 720p Sony tv from 2008. An update to a higher resolution would not go unappreciated.

  31. In 2018 we need some upgrades to computers here in my home, as well as a new BIGGER, 4K TV.. as well as a new phone. Those are my 2018 Tech list needs 🙂

  32. We are in need of some tech upgrades all round, but guess what we’d like most is a new TV. Ours has just about had the biscuit.

  35. I would need a 4k 50″ TV and a soundbar. Also my old gaming laptop is now being used as a print station so I would also need a new one of those.

  43. Being a new retiree, I get the privilege to listen to the radio all day and watch TV when I can get my hands on the remote first
    But with aging, comes hearing impairment and degenerated eyesight.
    And so, a 2nd TV with a bigger screen and a wireless home theater system or better yet, a set of wireless earphones would make life good & my relationship with my husband even better

  44. We need a new media streamer – or android box. We have a Sony media streamer, bought it from BestBuy back in 2009, it has been doing well until recently, starting to chug. We don’t want to replace the TV just yet (to a smart tv), so we need a streamer for Netflix, media on our portable hard-drive, etc.
