Mobile World Congress (MWC 2015): The Big Trends

1
March 5th marked the final day of Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain. While most of the splashy announcements (like that Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge) took place early in the week, through the rest of the show some definite trends became clear. And given that MWC 2015 is the world’s biggest exhibition of mobile technology, trends there are likely to set the pattern for what we see here in terms of smartphones, tablets, smartwatches and other mobile gear throughout this year.

It’s Pebble Time!

2015 is living up to expectations as an exciting time for smartwatch fans. We’re seeing Android Wear smartwatches hit their stride, the Apple Watch is due out in a matter of weeks and now Pebble—the company that really helped kick off the whole thing—is back with an exciting new model. Google Chromecast Teams up with CTV

Well, maybe “teams up” is too strong a comment as they are not literally on the same team, which sounds more like a merger. What is newsworthy is that CTV is the first Canadian broadcaster to make their content available through Google’s Chromecast device. This is great news for all you prospective cable cutters and for you non-cutters that have trouble with your PVR missing past episodes of your favorite shows.

Get ready for the Jawbone UP3

Fitness tracking is a fun, easy way to motivate you to get moving. I know since I’ve picked up my own fitness tracker that I’m much more likely to get up and out the door for a run if I notice my stats are dropping, and there’s nothing quite as fun as challenging a friend to a little friendly fitness competition. But if you’ve ever wished your own fitness tracker would go a bit further or do a bit more by tracking other types of exercise, you’re going to be really excited about the Jawbone UP3.
