xmas2016-drones

Remote controlled planes and helicopters have been around for many years but they never caused the frenzy that we have seen with drones. They have invaded our psyche and become a part of our culture. This is the year that drones have emerged as a cultural phenomenon. You can quickly become the envy of your friends if you win one of the 3 incredible drones that Best Buy is awarding as prizes in this contest.

I am currently reading Dickens’ Bleak House, an amazing story that includes many references to 19th century culture. For example, on page 344 Dickens includes in his descriptions of the Smallweed family, a family that is basically born adult, presumably skipping childhood and childish things, numerous childish games and toys that were popular in his day:

“… her twin brother couldn’t wind up a top for his life. He knows no more of Jack the Giant Killer or of Sinbad the Sailor than he knows of the people in the stars. He could as soon play at leap-frog or at cricket as change into a cricket or a frog himself.”

I am sure that if Dickens was writing in 2016 he would include references to flying a drone. They are here to stay as more and more people are using them for more and more things.  Here are the incredible drones we are offering as prizes in this contest and some of their key features:

  1. I love the fact that this drone can follow objects you specify, and that it’s foldable and portable.

  2. Love the easy to operate one because I’m somewhat technology challenged and need easy, would love to have a drone, we live next to a 10 acre park with animals I would like to see. Thanks and happy holidays

  3. Just being able to take high quality video up in the sky is impressive. I would absolutely love a drone. I’ve always wanted one but just haven’t been able to afford one :(.

  4. The visual tracking, travel up to 72 km/h, obstacle avoidance sensing system are all features that are very appealing also easy to fly feature is great
Thanks for being able to win one of these great machines 🙂

  5. I love the 4k HD recording at 120 fps which would also allow me to make slow motion 4k videos in post editing!

  6. The Phantom 4 can be flown simply by tapping on your screen, and it can use its computer vision to identify a specific person and follow them, keeping the subject of your film perfectly in frame. By adding computer vision and fully autonomous capabilities, the Phantom 4 has dramatically raised the bar on what is possible with a consumer caliber camera drone, both for complete amateurs who want to start flying and for professionals who are crafting complex and dangerous shots.

  8. The DJI Mavic’s portability is probably the feature that stands out the most to me. Being able to pop it in a back pack or messenger bag and go would be awesome.

  9. So lightweight and easy to fly!! Love the photo option, something my 17 year old photographer son would thoroughly enjoy!! Great obstacle sensor too!

  10. So lightweight and easy to fly!! The photo option is spectacular, something my young photographer son would LOVE!! Great obstacle avoidance sensor too!!

  11. Love that they are easy to fly. Some are so technical that kids have a hard time mastering them and my self as well.

  12. I love that fact that none of these drones have flame throwers. That could be an issue. They should make a drone that can pick you kids up from school, or a drone that could carry water balloons so you could get your friends. Now that would be a cool feature.

  13. Obstacle avoidance sensing system is a must for use at the cottage. Can’t tell you how many times the RC helicopter gets stuck in the trees.
