Ride through a huge open world
Riders Republic takes place in a huge open world that is composed of some of America’s most iconic and beautiful national parks. There are seven distinct national parks included in the game: Bryce Canyon, Yosemite Valley, Sequoia Park, Zion, Canyonlands, Mammoth Mountain, and Grand Teton. At the centre of it all is Riders Ridge, the central hub for the game. Here you can meet up with friends, customise your character, enter events or just hang out and have fun.
Instead of just throwing you into the world, Ubisoft eases you in with a storyline that is full of cheesy dialogue. Luckily, this isn’t the game’s main focus. Suki and Riders Republic founder Brett are mostly confined to behind the scenes and very minimal roles.
Never a dull moment in Riders Republic
The game features four main activities: mountain biking, snowboarding, skiing and wingsuit flying. In career mode, these are further broken down into six different disciplines. Bike Racing, Bike Freestyle, Snowboarding/Sky Freestyle, Snowboard/Ski Racing, Wingsuit and Rocket Wingsuit all have their own progression path.
To say that Riders Republic world is alive is a gross understatement. The game features cross play with all platforms. One look at the map and you can see other players live moving across the map. The landscapes are littered with Bikers, Snowboarders, Skiers, folks on ATVs or in the skies with jetpacks and wingsuits.
Your in-game goals are centred around earning stars and some events unlock with a specific amount of stars. You can earn stars however you like. Complete an event and you’ll earn a star. However, to earn more stars, you’ll have to complete challenges within each event. These include finishing a race within a certain time, scoring so many points and so on. Additionally, you can earn stars for finding landmarks on Riders Republic’s huge map.
Mass Race events
My favourite event in Riders Republic is the Mass Race event, which happens every hour. These are 64 player events, where everyone competes against each other on the same course. During these events you’ll switch between skiing, biking and flying.
Mass Race events are absolute chaos! Right off the start, you and everyone else are smashing into each other for dominance and a chance to break away from the pack. It’s complete gaming insanity at its finest! Although you might finish last, Mass Race events are a ton of fun.
An easy to pick up arcade-like experience
While the environments in Riders Republic are realistic, thankfully Ubisoft opted for an arcade-like experience. For example, when riding a bike downhill you don’t need to worry about most terrain—you’ll only crash if you plough into a rock or fall off a cliff. Downhill skiing and snowboarding controls are even more simplistic than biking.
Performing fancy moves in the game’s various trick modes and challenges is also fairly easy. For example, you can flip forward or back and change a setting so that your tricks land automatically.
Finally, Riders Republic offers two control schemes, Racer and Trickster. They are fairly straightforward, the former assigns tricks to the face buttons and the latter maps them to the right stick. As you can guess, it’s best to choose Racer for races, and Trickster for trick competitions.
Riders Republic is an enjoyable multiplayer social game that is both accessible and expansive. The game’s map is massive and filled to the brim with events and competitions to participate in. From skiing to mountain biking to racing across the sky in a wingsuit there is always something to do.
Riders Republic features cross-platform and cross-generation play, which allows you to play with friends and riders on all platforms. As a result, the game’s map is always filled with other players. Better yet, Riders Republic also features cross-progression. So you can instantly pickup where you left off on any platform!
You can expect to spend in the neighbourhood of 20-30 hours to complete all of the game’s career paths and challenges. With at least a year of free and paid content, you can expect even more fun with BMX biking, a new multiplayer mode and more!
