A land plunged into darkness
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity takes place 100 years before The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and tells the story of the catastrophic event. Hyrule was plunged into darkness, devastated by an evil force which transformed the kingdom forever. The game stars Link and Zelda from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and other recognizable characters.
Additionally, Zelda fans will recognize the four Champions, who will be playable for the very first time in the series. Moreover, the game features a robust story that tells the events, relationships and dramatic moments of the Great Calamity.
Familiar gameplay for Hyrule Warriors and Fire Emblem Warriors fans
Hyrule Warriors: The Age of Calamity features gameplay that fans of the Hyrule Warriors and Fire Emblem Warriors games will be familiar with. Furthermore, gameplay is focused on performing combos and over-the-top special abilities. The action-heavy gameplay is fast-paced and strategic. Without a doubt, gameplay is perfect for players looking for a game with non-stop action that has direct ties to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
In addition to action-heavy gameplay, there are plenty of environmental puzzles to solve, weapons and skills to unlock, materials to craft, and shops to visit to get items and use the power of the Sheikah Slate.

Undoubtedly, with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 still in development, Age of Calamity looks like it will be a perfect way to hold players over. Many have questioned the Nintendo Switch holiday line up but it looks like those holes are starting to fill in nicely!

I played the original Hyrule Warriors, but it didn’t really grab me. I might have to give it another try with this prequel of sorts to Breath of the Wild, especially if there are new story elements that come out through the course of the game.
Plus it comes out just before my birthday, so it would make a great pickup for me!
