Nintendo Switch is the ultimate family gaming console. It has the flexibility to take anywhere your family goes, and the versatility to go from individual play to interactive or competitive play. Also, the selection of games continues to excite us with each new release. Their newest game, Pokemon Scarlet / Pokemon Violet comes out this month and Best Buy is giving away a copy of the double pack version of the game, a Nintendo prize pack, and a Pokemon Scarlet & Violet Edition Switch OLED, for one amazing ultimate Nintendo prize.

Do you have a favourite Nintendo memory?

Families have been enjoying Nintendo gaming for decades. My favourite Nintendo memory is from when my children were young playing Mario Kart with my father-in-law Dan. The fun started with selecting a driver, “Granpa, I want to be Bowser; you got to be him last time!” which to an outsider may have seemed confrontational but the atmosphere was total fun and laughs.

Pokemon too has been thrilling adults and children since 1996. What started as a very successful video game for the Game Boy quickly evolved into anime, trading cards, manga, and tons of related toys and other merchandise. Few on this planet have not experience Pokemon in one way or another. This contest will certainly create lasting memories for someone in Canada. The prize includes a Nintendo Switch console on which they will play countless games at home, at friends’ homes, and on road trips. One of those games will be the new Pokemon Scarlet / Pokemon Violet that’s also included in this prize. And the winner will also enjoy a collection of Nintendo Pokemon merchandise. It’s pretty much a perfect Pokemon prize!

Many people will be gifting Nintendo this season

You may be wondering what are the best games to give Nintendo Switch gamers this season. You might already have an opinion about it, or you may be interested in what games other players are recommending. We sent our writers to a Nintendo holiday showcase event to get some insights and you can read about their experiences on the blog. Also, scroll through the comments under that article. For the next two weeks, Canadians will be leaving their Nintendo Switch game recommendations under that article as one of the methods of entering this contest. Here are all of the ways you can enter this contest:

How to enter

Entering this contest is easy and you can enter in three different ways:

  1. In a comment below, tell us what your favourite Nintendo memory is, what game, was involved, and why this memory stands out for you.
  2. In a comment beneath the “Nintendo Holiday Showcase” article, tell us which Nintendo Switch game sold at Best Buy (include the model number) is your gift recommendation for Canadians this season.
  3. For up to two (2) additional entries, create a public post on a social media channel (one entry per channel!) telling your friends and followers which version “Pokemon Scarlet” or “Pokemon Violet” you’ll play first if you win this Nintendo Switch prize pack; include the hashtag #BestBuyNintendoSwitchContest, so we can find your post, and include one of the pictures showing on this article.
Then return here and tell us in a comment below on which channel you posted it and the name of your channel (since many people use pseudonyms) so that we can check and verify your entry. You can use any social media channel (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, etc.), but the post must be public so we can verify it is there.

What you can win

At the end of this contest, we will randomly select one (1) winner to receive the Nintendo Switch Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Prize pack that includes the double game and the Nintendo Switch OLED Pokemon Scarlet & Violet Edition.

This contest runs from Nov 17th until Dec 5th.

Remember you can enter in three different way as discussed above. Nintendo is best played with friends and our contests are best enjoyed with you share with family and friends to increase that chances that either you or someone close to you wins a great prize.

  1. My favourite Nintendo memory was when I was camping with my grandpa as a kid. I took my gameboy and The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening. I remember that I had a hard time figuring out how to light torches and finally figured it out. Then I started flying through the rest of the game.

  2. My memories are all about Luigi and Mario..I’d pick Luigi because he didn’t get much play…my son would love this,he is on the spectrum for autumn

  3. My favourite memory is playing duck hunt with my older brother, I remember being terrible at it but having loads of fun!

  4. My favorite memory is when my brothers got the new system and they tired to learn me how to use it and my character kept getting killed, it was a interesting night lol.

  5. My favourite Nintendo memory was playing Pokemon Blue on my Game Boy! I loved it because it was a way to bond with my sister! She would play Pokemon Red.

  6. The first time I figured out the coordination required to make Mario fly with a cape in Super Mario World was pretty memorable. Even more so when I realized you could typically fly over entire levels.

  7. My favourite Nintendo moment was receiving a ds for my birthday/christmas it was paired with my first Pokémon experience and it was special to me because I knew from that moment forward they both had a special place in my heart. 🙂

  8. My parents bought me a NES system when I was a kid and I woke up late one night from loud noises, only to find them in the living room yelling at the screen while playing Super Mario having a blast. I guess it’s stayed with me as it was so surprising to kid-me.

  9. My favourite Nintendo memory involves the game Super Smash Brothers Melee, and it was when I beat Giga Bowser. My brothers and I were trying for a very long time so being able to finally beat that challenge was extremely rewarding.

  10. Played a ton of Pokemon Puzzle League back in the day, and now it’s on the N64 expansion pass so I’ve been experiencing that version that I never got to try. I used to bring that everywhere fighting the elite four over and over and people didn’t realize it was a Pokemon game. I really enjoyed the mechanics and the Pokemon aspect is what got me in.

  11. My Nintendo memory is playing at a neighbour’s house… there were some Nintendo magazines around with cheat codes and strategies, and I remember trying to line up the images in Super Mario 3, I think… they spun like a slot machine and you had to press to tell it when to stop spinning each time. I did ok, too!

  12. My favourite memory is playing Super Mario on our Nintendo 64. The technology and experience is memorable, because its the first unit our family saved for and purchased. It was more than just a console or game to us.

  13. I was a Nintendo kid! It was the only time my little brother and I stopped bickering, which I am sure deleighted out parents! We loved playing Super Mario Bros 3. Finding all the hidden items and flying with the Tanooki suit was the best!

  14. My favorite memory was in 1990. We had very little but My brother had gotten a Nintendo for Christmas and a game called “duck hunt” that we played with an orange play gun. We took turns for weeks, myself and my 2 brothers, shooting ducks and having the most fun I still remember the sound the game made when you miss the duck. I love that memory, and wish I was little again still playing the game with my brothers

  15. In January 2020, right before COVID hit, my roommate who doesn’t even game finally convinced me to try out The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. I remember the three of us housemates crowding on my bed as I booted her copy of the game up, thinking I would only play the tutorial. I was WRONG. I was obsessed as soon as we were clear to leave the first platform, roaming around checking out weird landmarks, playing late into the night even after everyone else had dozed off. I would continue to sacrifice sleep for the next three nights to play after work; the sense of adventure and awe I felt had been unmatched by any game I’d ever played in the last 20 years.

This memory stands out to me not just because of that, but also because I got to experience it with my friends. Although they’d each played the game already, they were just as drawn in by the freedom of the game, and how differently I was doing things than they had. It was a great way to keep preoccupied even as everything was shutting down around us; even after putting the controller down, I’d continue to think of the implications of what had happened to Link and Zelda, the significance of memories, and how to deal with so much lost time. As corny as it sounds, BOTW saved me and kept me sane during unprecedented times, and that’s why my favourite gaming memory is of those early days playing it.

One of my earliest memories was playing Pokémon Sapphire on my game boy advance.
One of my favourite memories was playing Super Smash Bros on the N64 with my dad as a little kid.
My next favourite memory is when I got my red Super Mario Wii that came with super Mario bros and it was awesome. I played Mario kart as well because I got it as a gift and we played Mario kart and ate chocolate all morning on Christmas Day.

  20. I would recommend Nintendo Switch Sports (Switch) Model Number: HACRAS8SA for family fun! Its very similar to the orginal Nintendo Wii games.

  21. When the Ninedo Wii first came out, my sister in law bought one & hooked it up at my in-lasw house. To watch my parents n law sit on a stool & race the cows in a game was so funny! They were bouncing around & Laughing so hard. It was so fun to see them enjoying themselves & the game.

  22. One of my favourite Nintendo memories is of me and my brother when we were kids playing super Mario brothers 3 and trying to beat that game together. We spent so much time together playing that game.

  23. My fav Nintendo Memory is getting out first Nintendo (I was 19) and playing it crowded around my Grandmother’s tv – it was the first ever Nintendo we ever owned. The next day my younger cousins came over ( 12 yrs and 9) came over and we (all 4 of us) were playing Mario when I mentioned that my Mom used to belong to a gun club in High School and that she was killer good with guns. Mom came in and played Duck Hunt and blew everyone away. My 2 male cousins were gobsmacked and it was nice watching my Mom smile as she walked away. That was soooooooooooooooo long ago but still makes me smile.

  24. I remeber whe my son got his first Nintendo gaming system…cant remember which one it was, but it was very exciting for the whole family and we all loved playing Mario and and duck hunt…we were WOWED by it all!!

  25. A Nintendo game boy that I purchased to play on a long flight. During the flight I was doing a terrible job playing Mario Brothers and this three year sitting next to me was watching. I handed this little boy the game and boy could that kid play. I let him play the rest of flight from Vancouver to Tokyo. And his mother gave me the game boy back at the end of the flight amid a flurry of thank yous and a big smile from that little boy.
