Destiny 2: Beyond Light

Fans of Bungie’s first-person looter shooter are in for a treat today, with the announcement of Destiny 2: Beyond Light. The upcoming expansion will release on September 22nd, 2020. That’s not all however. Accompanying the news is confirmation that Destiny 2 is coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.

Destiny 2: Beyond Light expansion

The next big expansion to Destiny 2 will feature a brand new location. This time around Guardians will be prowling the frozen moon of Europa. The setting features glacial frontiers, vast facilities, and ancient secrets buried in the unforgiving ice.

Guardians need not feel completely unprepared for this new challenge however. A brand new elemental power will also be available for players to wield. “Stasis” roots itself in darkness, and grants each class its own unique new supers and abilities.

What would a new expansion be without a new raid as well? A new 6-person raid awaits Guardians in the Depp Stone Crypt. As always, skill and teamwork are a requirement, resulting in glorious rewards.

Finally, “The Rise of Eramis” sees splintered houses of the Fallen rallying under the banner of the Fallen Kell of Darkness on Europa. The abandoned Eramis is on her own journey into the Darkness. This puts her straight on a collision course with the Guardians.

Season of Arrivals

Guardians need not wait until the release of Destiny 2: Beyond Light for brand new content however. Starting today, current players can enjoy new activities, new gear, and even a brand new story chapter. These new experiences mark their appearance with the further announcement of Destiny 2‘s 11th season: Season of Arrivals.

Season of Arrivals follows the arrival of a mysterious Pyramid ship. This “dark omen” charges Guardians to search for answers in the wake of this unforeseen development. Whatever its origin, the Pyramid ship is sure to affect the universe’s ongoing narrative in a significant way.

All players will now have access to the brand new “Prophecy” dungeon, with both secrets and new armor sets to unlock. New lore will be appearing intermittently as well in the form of “Messages of Darkness”. And of course, new public events will be taking place directly under the Pyramid ship’s shadow.

Rewards take a new shape this season as well. A new engram focusing system gives players the ability to fine-tune their rewards. And of course, plenty of new weapons await those ready to face the latest challenges under Season of Arrivals.

Today’s Destiny 2: Beyond Light announcement is great news for those waiting on the game’s next big expansion. Of course, the best part may be knowing that Guardians will have the option not only enjoy Beyond Light on current generation consoles, but into the next generation as well.

Thanks to Bungie we now know that Destiny 2 will continue on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X consoles. Not only that, but the team also confirms that purchasing Destiny 2: Beyond Light on current generation consoles will qualify owners for a free upgrade to the next generation!

  1. I really need to get back to playing Destiny again. I loved those games. My current internet status isn’t great though, and I’m not sure I would be able to take full advantage of the game. I look forward to seeing what you have to think about the expansion when it launches!
