Pioneer VSX935 receiver contestMany people find home audio a shopping challenge and may avoid even learning about great receivers like the amazing, versatile options from Pioneer. Yes, the easiest home theatre audio solution is to get nothing and let the TV do the audio heavy lifting. However, televisions will never produce the kind of immersive audio you get from a great stereo system. And that stereo system begins with a premium receiver like the Pioneer VSX-935 8K 7.2 channel receiver we are giving away in this contest.

How to get the best home theatre audio

Sometimes I watch TV and get the audio from the television speakers. This is fine for me when I’m watching the news or a weather report. If I’m watching something meaningful, I’ll use a sound bar connected via an HDMI cable. I use that same sound bar to stream Spotify sometimes if I want background music in the living room.

However, when I’m watching something meaningful to me I send the audio to my receiver so I get an audio experience comparable to the great visuals and great storytelling I’m enjoying. It’s all part of the same package for me. Sometimes, I’ll rewatch something that I streamed on my phone because I know it will be so much better on the big screen with the big sound I can only get from my stereo. For example, the opening music of Star Trek: Discovery has amazing depth and gives me chills—when I listen on my stereo! Even Tig Notaro’s acerbic tone as my favourite character in this series, Jett Reno, is more biting through a proper home theatre system.

How do I know what to look for in a home theatre receiver

Like many of the Canadians reading this article, I am not a home theatre receiver expert. I’m not. That’s why I hire people who know more than I do for many of the projects I assign for the Best Buy blog. The prize we are giving away is a great example: I sent it to Jason Gorber, who knows a lot more about audio than I do. So if you want to learn more about this prize, you should read his informative review.

Similarly, the many comprehensive buying guides you find on the blog were not written by me. In fact, they are not the work of just one person. I assign the project to a knowledgable writer on the team, then the draft goes to other experts for that product category to be revised and molded to, hopefully, be maximally useful as a tool that helps shoppers find the right products for their home. Check out the Receiver Buying Guide on the blog and you will have a better idea of what a receiver can do for your home audio needs.

How to enter

Entering this contest is easy and you can enter in three (3) different ways.

  1. In a comment below, tell us what you usually use for home theatre audio and how this receiver might improve your home listening experience.
  2. In a comment below the Receiver Buying Guide, tell us one aspect about receivers that you learned from that article.
  3. For up to two (2) additional entries, create a public post on a social media channel (one entry per channel!) sharing with your friends and followers one reason why you want to win this Pioneer receiver; include the hashtag #BestBuyPioneerContest, so we can find your post, and include one of the pictures showing on this article. Then return here and tell us in a comment below on which channel you posted it and the name of your channel (since many people use pseudonyms) so that we can check and verify your entry. You can use any social media channel (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, etc.), but the post must be public so we can verify it is there.

What can you win

At the end of this contest, we will randomly select one (1) winner from all eligible entries to receive the Pioneer VSX-935 8K 7.2 channel receiver sample that was tested for the blog review article.

This contest runs from July 7th to July 21st.

Remember, you can enter in three different ways as discussed above. You should also discuss the information in this contest with your family and friends so they too can enter this contest for a chance to win a premium Pioneer receiver.

  1. We have a VSX model, older than 10 years so having this one would be a must with 8K capability and 7.2 channels.

  2. I have a JVC home theater that is not working now. So I need Pioneer to enhance the sound from my TV.

  3. In the past I used a Bose home theatre system, but currently don’t have one, so simply using the TV speakers. A good rule to match speakers to amplifiers is to have a root means square that has an amplification output 50% more then the root means square of speakers.

  4. I learned that the best way to match speakers and receivers is to use the good rule of thumb: have RMS amplification that can output 50% more than the RMS rating of your speaker.

  5. I use some Edifier speakers for now, though it would be amazing to have a home theatre receiver so I can finally start setting up a home theatre!

  6. I usually use our TV speakers for the audio output when watching any movies/shows. Adding a receiver to my setup would a definitely step up in our family’s viewing experience.

  7. the ability to enhance the sound by 100 % which would be a great improvement for the family members with hearing problems

  8. I just use my TV speakers. From the article, I learned that many receivers are capable of upscaling video.

  9. improve your home listening experience, listening to music on a resting saturday afternoon

  10. Just using my basic TV speakers. I’m sure a receiver and speakers will want me to watch more tv.

  11. I do not have enhanced sound to elevate my tv watching. This amazing 8K Home Theater Receiver would greatly enhance my movie watching experience.

  12. I use some old speakers currently paired with an equally old receiver. This would give me a more immersive cinematic experience and alow me to upgrade my listening experience

  13. Receivers connect all of the components of home theatre, seamlessly integrate them, and simplify the process to enjoy music or movies at home.

  14. I have no room for anything like this. You need speakers to match it’s power output anyway. I use my current soundbar for games mostly. The amp would be for movies and games.

  15. I just use the speakers that came with the TV. Pretty sure the sound would be much better with this.

  16. From the Receivers Buyers Guide, I learned a receiver combines three components into one device. These components are: a radio tuner, a pre-amplifier, and the power amplifier.

  17. To have a more immersive cinematic experience – a receiver would allow for more higher end audio devices in my setup

  18. Currently using TV speakers but after reading the blog post, I’m missing out! This receiver would be the step to a better listening experience.

  19. We use the TV speakers whick is OK but this home theatre receiver would enhance the sound greatly

  20. I am currently using the TV speakers. The Pioneer receiver would greatly enhance the sound quality.

  21. I just use the TV speakers. This would allow me to invest in some speakers and hook up a surround sound setup which has always been a dream.

  22. I don’t currently have home theatre audio. I would use this receiver to improve my home listening experience – especially when watching movies and documentaries.

  23. Right now I’m just using my basic TV speaker. This Pioneer receiver would definitely improve my audio experience when I’m watching my favourite movies at home.
