Pioneer VSX935 receiver contestMany people find home audio a shopping challenge and may avoid even learning about great receivers like the amazing, versatile options from Pioneer. Yes, the easiest home theatre audio solution is to get nothing and let the TV do the audio heavy lifting. However, televisions will never produce the kind of immersive audio you get from a great stereo system. And that stereo system begins with a premium receiver like the Pioneer VSX-935 8K 7.2 channel receiver we are giving away in this contest.

How to get the best home theatre audio

Sometimes I watch TV and get the audio from the television speakers. This is fine for me when I’m watching the news or a weather report. If I’m watching something meaningful, I’ll use a sound bar connected via an HDMI cable. I use that same sound bar to stream Spotify sometimes if I want background music in the living room.

However, when I’m watching something meaningful to me I send the audio to my receiver so I get an audio experience comparable to the great visuals and great storytelling I’m enjoying. It’s all part of the same package for me. Sometimes, I’ll rewatch something that I streamed on my phone because I know it will be so much better on the big screen with the big sound I can only get from my stereo. For example, the opening music of Star Trek: Discovery has amazing depth and gives me chills—when I listen on my stereo! Even Tig Notaro’s acerbic tone as my favourite character in this series, Jett Reno, is more biting through a proper home theatre system.

How do I know what to look for in a home theatre receiver

Like many of the Canadians reading this article, I am not a home theatre receiver expert. I’m not. That’s why I hire people who know more than I do for many of the projects I assign for the Best Buy blog. The prize we are giving away is a great example: I sent it to Jason Gorber, who knows a lot more about audio than I do. So if you want to learn more about this prize, you should read his informative review.

Similarly, the many comprehensive buying guides you find on the blog were not written by me. In fact, they are not the work of just one person. I assign the project to a knowledgable writer on the team, then the draft goes to other experts for that product category to be revised and molded to, hopefully, be maximally useful as a tool that helps shoppers find the right products for their home. Check out the Receiver Buying Guide on the blog and you will have a better idea of what a receiver can do for your home audio needs.

How to enter

Entering this contest is easy and you can enter in three (3) different ways.

  1. In a comment below, tell us what you usually use for home theatre audio and how this receiver might improve your home listening experience.
  2. In a comment below the Receiver Buying Guide, tell us one aspect about receivers that you learned from that article.
  3. For up to two (2) additional entries, create a public post on a social media channel (one entry per channel!) sharing with your friends and followers one reason why you want to win this Pioneer receiver; include the hashtag #BestBuyPioneerContest, so we can find your post, and include one of the pictures showing on this article. Then return here and tell us in a comment below on which channel you posted it and the name of your channel (since many people use pseudonyms) so that we can check and verify your entry. You can use any social media channel (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, etc.), but the post must be public so we can verify it is there.

What can you win

At the end of this contest, we will randomly select one (1) winner from all eligible entries to receive the Pioneer VSX-935 8K 7.2 channel receiver sample that was tested for the blog review article.

This contest runs from July 7th to July 21st.

Remember, you can enter in three different ways as discussed above. You should also discuss the information in this contest with your family and friends so they too can enter this contest for a chance to win a premium Pioneer receiver.

  1. I use an older 5.1 AV Pre-amp/amp combo for my home theatre, so this receiver would provide 7.2 capability, Dolby ATMOS, built-in Bluetooth, and HDMI switching.

  2. use a soundbar but with a receiver i can hook up multiples speakers and create a more immersive sound experience

  3. We use the tv speakers only. Some theme music is beautiful, moving and would be more so with this receiver.

  4. I just use the TV’s audio. Maybe I’ll know what it actually sounds like with a receiver and some speakers.

  5. I don’t have a home theatre system I just listen through the tv speaker I would love to listen to oldies so a receiver is a good start

  6. Just tv speakers. I need an upgrade because I’m a big at home movie watcher ready for an experience!

  7. I currently use a Kenwood 5.1 setup. This Pioneer receiver would definitely improve my sound and surround features. As well being a much newer unit compared to what I have the quality of sound will improve greatly!

  8. I’m just using my basic TV speakers. I’m sure a receiver and speakers will want me to watch more tv.

  9. I currently use a subwoofer and a center channel but the left and right speakers could use some better immersion.
This would allow me to drive some wired speakers we have lying around in the room.

  10. It would be a TOTAL improvement. I don’t have a TV or a Home Theatre. I have an old radio being the biggest entertainment in my house.

  11. I always use my receiver for any TV I watch, from regular shows to movies to sports because of the much better sound. This receiver would be a great replacement for my aging Onkyo, especially since they went bankrupt!

  12. We have a middle of the road Yamaha 5.1 receiver, with a great sub and front speakers but not good centre or rear speakers. This would be an upgrade to get to 7.2 and support more speakers.

  13. I use an older 2.1 Samsung soundbar which isn’t horrible but definitely needs an upgrade.

  14. Many AV receivers offer a feature that allows you to setup a second zone, enabling you to drive a second pair of stereo speakers in another room

  15. Currently have an aging home theatre system…this receiver would provide a true immersive audio experience for movies and music!

  16. I use my computer speakers and subwoofer, so this would improve my sound in every way !

  17. I use the TV’s built-in speakers but if I had a home theatre receiver then I could upgrade and set up some speakers.

  18. I learned that the best way to match speakers and receivers is to use the good rule of thumb: have RMS amplification that can output 50% more than the RMS rating of your speaker.
