Pioneer VSX935 receiver contestMany people find home audio a shopping challenge and may avoid even learning about great receivers like the amazing, versatile options from Pioneer. Yes, the easiest home theatre audio solution is to get nothing and let the TV do the audio heavy lifting. However, televisions will never produce the kind of immersive audio you get from a great stereo system. And that stereo system begins with a premium receiver like the Pioneer VSX-935 8K 7.2 channel receiver we are giving away in this contest.

How to get the best home theatre audio

Sometimes I watch TV and get the audio from the television speakers. This is fine for me when I’m watching the news or a weather report. If I’m watching something meaningful, I’ll use a sound bar connected via an HDMI cable. I use that same sound bar to stream Spotify sometimes if I want background music in the living room.

However, when I’m watching something meaningful to me I send the audio to my receiver so I get an audio experience comparable to the great visuals and great storytelling I’m enjoying. It’s all part of the same package for me. Sometimes, I’ll rewatch something that I streamed on my phone because I know it will be so much better on the big screen with the big sound I can only get from my stereo. For example, the opening music of Star Trek: Discovery has amazing depth and gives me chills—when I listen on my stereo! Even Tig Notaro’s acerbic tone as my favourite character in this series, Jett Reno, is more biting through a proper home theatre system.

How do I know what to look for in a home theatre receiver

Like many of the Canadians reading this article, I am not a home theatre receiver expert. I’m not. That’s why I hire people who know more than I do for many of the projects I assign for the Best Buy blog. The prize we are giving away is a great example: I sent it to Jason Gorber, who knows a lot more about audio than I do. So if you want to learn more about this prize, you should read his informative review.

Similarly, the many comprehensive buying guides you find on the blog were not written by me. In fact, they are not the work of just one person. I assign the project to a knowledgable writer on the team, then the draft goes to other experts for that product category to be revised and molded to, hopefully, be maximally useful as a tool that helps shoppers find the right products for their home. Check out the Receiver Buying Guide on the blog and you will have a better idea of what a receiver can do for your home audio needs.

How to enter

Entering this contest is easy and you can enter in three (3) different ways.

  1. In a comment below, tell us what you usually use for home theatre audio and how this receiver might improve your home listening experience.
  2. In a comment below the Receiver Buying Guide, tell us one aspect about receivers that you learned from that article.
  3. For up to two (2) additional entries, create a public post on a social media channel (one entry per channel!) sharing with your friends and followers one reason why you want to win this Pioneer receiver; include the hashtag #BestBuyPioneerContest, so we can find your post, and include one of the pictures showing on this article. Then return here and tell us in a comment below on which channel you posted it and the name of your channel (since many people use pseudonyms) so that we can check and verify your entry. You can use any social media channel (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, etc.), but the post must be public so we can verify it is there.

What can you win

At the end of this contest, we will randomly select one (1) winner from all eligible entries to receive the Pioneer VSX-935 8K 7.2 channel receiver sample that was tested for the blog review article.

This contest runs from July 7th to July 21st.

Remember, you can enter in three different ways as discussed above. You should also discuss the information in this contest with your family and friends so they too can enter this contest for a chance to win a premium Pioneer receiver.

  1. I would use it on my tv, as I have no external speakers/soundbard and I would love better quality sound and clearer

  2. I am relying on my tv speakers and the home theatre system would bring me full, rich, all around sound to enjoy gaming and movie watching. Great for the kids as well for true to live sound on their shows.

  3. Right now I’m using the speakers on my tv. I’ve never owned any kind of soundbar in my life, but I do think having one would not only upgrade my movie watching experience, but also benefit my video game playing. Sometimes the tv speakers just don’t do the awesome background music justice.

  4. This Pioneer A/V receiver would definitely upgrade the experience, has more options, and is more powerful than my current Onkyo receiver. It would also simplify my setup.

  5. I have a hand-me-down 5.1 surround with a Yamaha receiver. This Pioneer would allow me to try Dolby Atmos /DTS-X height channels all while adding HDMI 2.1 into my home theater.

  6. Right now I am just using a soundbar on my tv. I would love to upgrade my sound experience especially when watching movies.

  7. I would use it for my TV and it would improve the overall movie and TV watching experience because with better sound you get a better overall experience

  8. I have a regular stereo system but it is old and cannot work with our TV so we only have TV speakers. A new receiver would jack up our system immensely

  9. Right now all we use are the TV speakers, used to have a soundbar but it went with the old TV. Action movies would be so much better the receiver and proper system

  10. We usually use two soundbars for home theatre audio and this receiver will definitely improve our home listening experience because, with the better sound, we will be having a much better movie experience.

  11. I just use the speaker attached to my TV and the quality is very poor, this would be such a treat!

  12. We usually just watch movies but occasionally have CDs playing. The thing is: my wife is very hard of hearing, so we’re hoping that a better sound system will help her to enjoy both experiences.

  13. We use our tv for sound. The sound bar would make for better quality sound for viewing movies in particular

  14. Currently using a soundbar, but have unused speakers that I would like to hook up to a receiver so I can get surround sound.

  15. I usually use the Soundbar when watching movies. It’s great, but I would much rather better sound to experience movies to their full potential. I think I would watch movies a lot more if I had something like this in my home.

  16. I don’t use anything at all other than the sound straight from the TV, for home theatre audio… so this receiver would improve my set up greatly, as it’s bound to be better than what I use now.

  17. I have an old Sony amp, it makes a huge pop whenever it turns on. Having this amp would hopefully work better than that. I don’t want to blow my speakers.

  18. We use our tv audio for sound and the sound bar would definitely let us have better sound through the house especially when listening to my favorite tunes!

  19. We currently use just one sound bar, so this would be great to be able to add speakers for surround sound and to be able to control all our devices with just one receiver

  20. We have regular tv sound. Some streaming doesn’t work so well for sound. This would help.

  21. We currently use just one sound bar, so this would be great to be able to add speakers for surround sound and to be able to control all our devices with just one receiver.

  22. I usually use a low powered receiver. The Pioneer will raise the power level and thus the clarity & volume.

  23. I use am Yamaha component system and Klipsch speakers , and this receiver would allow additional speakers

  24. We use our tv audio for sound and the sound bar would definitely let us have better sound through the house

  25. I use wired earphone to listen selected sound events on my TV. i didn’t realize how easy it was to use a receiver with my devices.

  26. I only use the speakers in the television for the audio/sound but this receiver would be a fantastic help because I have senior tired ears/hearing.

  27. I do not have a receiver, so this would be a huge improvement when watching our favourite action movies.
