With springtime finally in sight after a long and difficult winter, the time is fast approaching to head outside and enjoy a multitude of outdoor activities. But for some of us, it can be a bit of a challenge to break out of our winter routine. If you or your kids are still firmly entrenched indoors, enjoying fun winter pastimes like playing video games, watching movies, and surfing the internet, a little encouragement may be in order to get everyone outside and active as the better weather approaches. If this is the case for you and yours, today I explore hover boards, scooters, and skateboards as excellent ways of getting off the couch and entering the great outdoors!

Hover Boards, Scooters, and Skateboards

If a hover board appeals to you, you may want to consider the Swagtron T1 Electric Hoverboard. This self-balancing board is stable, fast, and offers smooth riding. It’s said to be easy to use, although I have no personal experience with these boards myself. You basically shifts your own body weight in different directions to start and stop the board. This is known as dynamic equilibrium, and even though the board does much of the work, it still sounds like something of a workout to me. Imagine the wind in your hair as you glide to the corner store for something cold on a hot summer day. You’ll be the coolest kid/adult/person on your block!

Next up is a scooter. Specifically it’s the Swagtron Swagger 250-Watt Electric Scooter, which is great for short commutes to work, moving between classes on a large university campus, or just plain having fun! Not only can you ride the Swagger at speeds of up to 24+ Km/h, but you can also cover over 27 Kms of territory on a single battery charge, and that charge only takes 1.5 hours to complete. Great for kids and adults alike, the Swagger can hold up to 250 pounds of weight. And, when you finish riding, it folds up nicely for carrying and storage. With the Swagtron Swagger, you’ll ride your way to fun and freedom this spring!

Finally we have a very cool skateboard. Today’s skateboards have gone high tech, but that doesn’t mean that riders aren’t still being active when using one. Take, for instance, the Yuneec E-GO2 Electric Longboard (available in 3 colours). What better way to take to the streets than by riding on a skateboard that can take you on a 30 Km round trip on a single battery charge? This board has both fast and slow modes, and in fast mode it can reach up to 20 Kms/h. What fun! It’s even got a hand held remote to give the user full control over both its throttle and its break, so riding this thing is as easy as it is fun!

Although these products do much of the work for you, they still provide a great opportunity to get outside and active. For instance, simply maintaining balance on a skate or hover board could be a complete workout for many. I’ve personally never been able to do it without feeling like I did an hour’s worth of crunches afterwards due to the constant positional corrections that are required to remain on the board. There’s no doubt about it, hover boards, scooters, and skateboards are a great way to get you and your kids moving this spring! For more ideas on ways to get yourself or your kids outside and active this spring and summer, visit Best Buy Canada’s Sports and Recreation page.

I love to travel and I also love classic literature and great movies (especially spy & espionage works such as those featuring James Bond & Jason Bourne). I am also a serious toy and memorabilia collector (mostly Transformers) and have a great interest in gadgets and technology of all sorts. Many things intrigue me, and that's why I'm here on the Plug-In Blog. I never know what interesting things I'll encounter next!
