Introducing the new Lutron Caséta Outdoor Smart Plug, which was one of this week’s CES revelations within the Smart Home category. Lutron Caséta is already known and respected for their smart lighting solutions, but now they’re expanding their portfolio with a smart plug that can easily withstand the elements. This versatile new plug will be available by late March, but you can learn all about it right now. Just keep reading.
Lutron Caséta Outdoor Smart Plug
Lutron’s new smart plug is designed for outdoor use with the specs to get the job done. For one thing, it is IP-65 rated, meaning it fears neither the finest dust nor nozzle-projected water. It also features a “best-in-class, solid core construction” that keeps the internal components clean and dry at all times—even under the most severe weather conditions. In fact, it’s the first smart plug of its kind with a solid core that protects the internal components. And it’s built to last for years!
If you have outdoor electronics, such as pathway (or holiday) lights, the Lutron Caséta Outdoor Smart Plug provides complete and convenient control over them thanks to the freely downloadable Lutron App. This app gives you capabilities like being able to set your lights on a timer, or to simply control them via your smart phone. And its timer is much smarter than your typical timer. It’s actually aware of Daylight Savings time and will adjust itself automatically to the seasonal time changes. What a great idea!
But that’s not all; you can also engage your plug with a special remote control (called the Pico remote control) or through smart voice control. Compatible with all the major assistants—the Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa, and Apple HomeKit, it’ll easily integrate into your existing smart home setup.
It even works with Ring cameras and video doorbells thanks to a partnership between Ring and Caséta whereby they are now working together to provide users with enhanced app-based control. For instance, if your Ring video doorbell sees someone come-a-knockin (i.e., its motion detection feature is triggered), your Lutron Caséta controlled lights can be set to turn on automatically. This is a great idea that will serve customers of both companies well.
Furthermore, if you add the fast and effective Lutron Smart Bridge to your setup, you’ll enjoy enhancements like increased reliability and responsiveness without affecting (slowing down) your home Wi-Fi network. You’ll also be able to control your plug from anywhere, and you can even create special scenes for controlling multiple outdoor lights all at once.
As this plug is designed to thrive in very difficult conditions, it should be right at home here in Canada. While outdoor Smart Plugs with weather-resistant properties are certainly not unheard of, they do represent an underdeveloped market, so this announcement from Lutron Caséta is certainly a welcome development. Keep an eye out right here on the blog as we’ll be sure to provide a review if we can get ahold of one. In fact, we’re expecting that to happen soon. In the meantime, check out some of our great CES 2021 content right HERE.
Still waiting for this smart plug to be available in Canada … wondering what the hang up is.
