Ring is my favourite home security manufacturer. I’ve tried many. When my children were young I had a complete Brinks alarm system in my home, which worked fine, but was pricey. Since then, however, smart home products have become the most popular solution due to the low cost, high dependability, and—well let’s face it, smart home products are very cool! Enter this contest and Ring will have your home covered with some great home security products.

What makes Ring really smart

My top 3 favourite things about Ring are the ease of use, the great notifications, and the customer service. Ease of use of the app and the devices is just one really smart thing about Ring. I started adding Ring products to my home on Mayne Island about 15 months ago. They are so easy to install! I now have 2 outdoor security lights; one over the entrance to my carport, and one at the side of the house overlooking the main driveway to the house. I also have a video doorbell at the front door, and one at the backdoor. These work seamlessly with the Ring app on my phone: I can easily switch from one camera to the other at any time to see what is happening at the location. Also, I can activate the external lights on the cameras as I approach my home for personal safety.

Notifications work great and keep improving. When I first started using Ring, I was annoyed that notifications seemed spotty: sometimes the action that triggered the notification was over before the camera started recording. However, Ring keeps improving their app and their products, so that issue is a thing of the past. That brings me to one of the smartest things about Ring: responsive customer service! As I said I have used many different smart home products from many manufacturers, and Ring is probably the best at customer service. Just to be clear, I did not ever present myself to them as the Editor-in-Chief at Best Buy, one day likely to write an article about their products. I just told them that i am Martin, living on a little island off the coast of British Columbia.

Why did I contact them? I made an error (totally my fault) and broke the backing plate of the camera. Within a few days of explaining my problem, I had the part at my home, and the camera was installed in minutes. As I said, great service!

What are your smart home concerns

Why did I go into so much detail about their service? Well, Ring has recently started offering a home security package, with home monitoring of entry points, and keypads, motion detectors—everything you expect from home security. I have not tested this product yet, but given what I’ve learned about Ring, I expect that they will offer great service here as well.

So, tell me what are you looking for to make your home smart? Are you very concerned about the service you get? Perhaps you are most interested in getting some cameras around your home, or smart doorbells, or something else. One thing I forgot to mention is the great subscription package they offer. Most of the main home security companies require a subscription to get the most from their products. I love that with Ring, one very low price covers everything: video storage from all of the devices at your home, and home monitoring if you have their Wireless Home Security Alarm. All of it … one low monthly price. Now that is very smart!

Entering this contest is really easy but you can only enter once. In a comment below, tell us what your most pressing home security concern is, and what Ring product you think would be best suited to resolve that. 1. We live on a busy street so I think the Ring Wi-Fi Video Doorbell 2 would be very useful so we could see who was at the door.

  2. The spotlight camera would be great to light up my dark house as I live out of town with no streetlights.

  3. There is a video going ‘viral’ on my Facebook with two men attempting to break into a front door. The ring doorbell caught it all, from the first man scouting out the door, making sure no one was home, and then called up his friend to come to the front door. As they were trying to bust in the door, the homeowner (through this device) was able to tell them to get away from the door (and they RAN). A friend sent me the video saying this was three neighbourhoods away from where I live and that she was buying one of these immediately. I would say that my most pressing concern is the fact that this is happening so close to my own home!

    • HI Andrea,
Wow, that is pretty scary. I have had people drive up my driveway (which is pretty long) and my Ring cameras recorded them driving up to my house, turning around, then leaving. I was at work in a meeting at the time, with notifications turned to silent, so I was unaware that was happening until later when I checked my notifications. However, had they done anything wrong, I would have had clear video footage of it all thanks to Ring.

      Good luck!
      Martin

  4. Front Door security would be the most important for our family. From package deliveries to regular security it would be a great addition for sure.

I would love to win a ring doorbell.

  5. 100% the front door. Being able to see who is at my door from my soon-to-be Pixel 3 would save a lot of hassle, espesically if you have creaking floors!

  6. Our neighbourhood gets a ton of unwanted solicitors. We probably average about one per day. On the other hand, my wife and I get a lot of legitimate visitors so we can’t just ignore the doorbell. The Ring Doorbell would offer a perfect solution to this, as we wouldn’t have to waste our time answering the door for unwanted callers!

  7. I would love to win the security system! We have recently had a lot of strange things happening around the neighborhood and I would like something I can install to keep my family safe!

  8. Skunks are my pressing concern, I live in a rural area and at night this summer alone my dog has been Skunked twice so the ring Spotlight cam setup strategically around my yard would aid me in nightly quest to save my dog from the skunk invasion.

  9. I would love a security system my husband works away from home during the week would make me feel safer being on my own.

  10. I would love cameras around my home, we have issues with people going through cars in the neighbourhood.

  11. Thieves targeting vehicles in cul-de-sacs – they hit a bunch and then come back in six weeks after insurance has replaced things. Aggravating!

  12. The video doorbell would be great. (I just saw on the news how a homeowner scared away a couple of robbers that he caught via his doorbell cam

  13. Cameras around the house would be great as there has been a lot of break ins around my area the last few month. It would be great to catch the thiefs on camera or deter them all together.

  14. The spot light camera would be great to have. Our motion sensor light come on at night but we never know why. Could be a bear, or other animal or someone snooping around the shop. So this would be great to see what or who is hanging around at night

  15. I worry about my autistic son getting out on his own. The cameras and notifications would give me real peace of mind.

  16. Sadly, our complex is constantly a target for thieves. Just 2 days ago our wagon was stolen from our front door. I used it for everything as a single mom, taking out garbage, pulling my son around. Our front door is at the bottom of some stairs so I cannot see anything happening unless I’m looking through the peephole. I feel pretty helpless and defeated. A ring doorbell would be an absolute godsend. We could finally have a picture of the thief or thieves who have been hitting up our complex for months!

  17. a neighbour of ours had his garage broken into a few summers ago, so these home security products would be a great idea!

  18. We have a long driveway at the front and there is a road behind us so the Ring Spotlight Wireless Outdoor 1080p IP Camera in a 2 Pack in White would be the best for us. There is a dog that leaves his droppings at the top of the driveway so this may help…

  19. Our street is very dark and there has been many vehicles broken into. It would be nice to have the spot light camera to have the crooks look at the camera.

  20. We have a lot of animals coming into our yard, so the best Ring product for us would be the Spotlight Cam.

  21. Caught my neighbors rentee doing a quick water release between the two houses where it’s pitch dark. I let him finish the business without any notice. I then took pictures and shared with my neighbor. Kind of sad to see grown ups doing this. Anyhow Ring Flood light cam would have prevented it for sure.

  22. Moving to my first home in a new city/area that is unfamiliar to me! Looking for something like Ring Home Security to protect us at all hours of the day

  23. The Hello Video Doorbell would be great due to all of the unsolicited traffic we get these days. An added level of security and convenience all in one!

  24. We are often out at night running one of the kids to their sports, school commitments and other work commitments so the kids are home by themselve regularly and we seem to lots of evening visitors (kid’s friends, solicitors, late deliveries) come to the house while we out. A Hello video doorbell would be awesome so the kids will safer and will be able to see who is at the door and watch them leave so their imaginations don’t take over.

  25. There aren’t a lot of options for being able to monitor the front door area that doesn’t require a hard wired connection of some sort. And older options have internet/wifi features – but largely as backups. So the Ring Wi-Fi Video Doorbell Pro sounds pretty good since it not only is largely wireless and does back up to the Cloud, but it includes a free app that makes it way easier to monitor/control things while not at home.

  26. Had quite a few break ins in the area. Would be great to have an alarm system that actually works on an apartment.

  27. We have an acre with public trail access at the back so sometimes people come into our yard. A Ring Spotlight Wireless Outdoor 1080p IP Camera would work so well for us, especially if we’re out of town and are concerned.

  28. We’ve had a recent break in to our garage (as well as some of our neighbours) and the Ring Spotlight Wireless camera would be great as it would not only capture movement outside, but also doubles as a motion light.

  29. My pressing home concern is that I recently had my car broken into. The Ring Wired Outdoor Camera would be the perfect product to resolve this issue, should it happen again. I’d wire it on the brick wall adjacent to driveway and with full view of foot traffic and any vehicles who may be parking on the curb. The infrared night vision is ideal for my house too because I don’t have a lot of out door lighting with the trees on my property.

Thanks Best Buy and Ring! Awesome products!

  30. The spotlight cam would be great for me. I currently have an outdoor camera in a location next to a spotlight. The camera has a power plug running to an exterior outlet. The spotlight cam would help me get rid of that wire, and only have one device on the wall instead of two.
