Smart home products can help us reduce our carbon footprint by promoting energy efficiency, integrating renewable energy sources, and reducing water waste. As individuals, we can all do our part to help reduce energy consumption, contribute to a more sustainable future, and protect the environment. One of the best places to start is in our homes. By upgrading our home’s energy efficiency, we can not only save money on our energy bills but also reduce our impact on the environment. This Earth Day, we’re excited to offer a giveaway that can help you achieve just that—with a Google Nest smart thermostat and Philips Hue LED light bulbs! Enter for a chance to win these innovative tech products and read more for tips and tricks that will help you make smarter choices.

Create a seamless and energy-efficient smart home experience

The Google Nest smart thermostat is the ultimate tool for home automation. It learns your schedule and temperature preferences and adjusts the temperature of your home accordingly. You can also control it remotely using the Nest app, so you can ensure your home is always at the perfect temperature, no matter where you are. Instead of an always-on thermostat, you have one that intelligently adjusts the temperature in your home, saving you money every day.

Philips Hue A19 LED Light BulbAnd when you pair the Google Nest smart thermostat with Philips Hue LED light bulbs, you can take your energy savings to the next level. These bulbs can be controlled with the Philips Hue app or with most voice assistants, allowing you to turn them on and off or change their brightness and colour conveniently from anywhere. Schedule the lights to automatically go on only when needed and off when not needed. And because they’re LED bulbs, they’re energy-efficient and long-lasting, saving you money on your electricity bills.

By using less energy, you’re reducing the amount of carbon emissions released into the atmosphere, which means you’re doing your part to combat climate change. Here are some more tips to help you make a positive impact:

  1. Upgrade to energy-efficient appliances

One of the easiest ways to reduce your energy consumption is by upgrading to energy-efficient appliances. Look for appliances with the ENERGY STAR label, which means they meet strict efficiency guidelines set by the Environmental Protection Agency. These appliances use less energy and can save you money on your energy bills over time. Some of the most common appliances to upgrade include refrigerators, washing machines, and dishwashers.

  1. Consider Refurbished Products

If you’re looking to upgrade your home’s appliances or electronics, consider purchasing refurbished products. Best Buy has a huge selection of pre-owned devices that have been inspected, repaired, and restored to their original condition. Not only are these products often more affordable than new ones, but they also help reduce electronic waste by giving products a second life.

  1. Use Recycling Programs

Recycling programs ensure that electronic waste is disposed of properly, reducing its impact on the environment. Best Buy’s recycling program is free for all and accepts a wide range of electronics, from cell phones to appliances.

  1. Take Advantage of Repair Services

Instead of throwing away broken appliances or electronics, consider repairing them. Repair services can help reduce electronic waste. Best Buy’s Geek Squad offers a variety of repair services, from fixing cracked smartphone screens to repairing washing machines.

  1. Consider Trade-In Programs

Trade-in programs allow you to receive credit towards new purchases in exchange for your old devices. Best Buy’s trade-in program accepts a wide range of electronics, including smartphones, tablets, and gaming consoles. Not only does this program help reduce electronic waste, but it also helps make new purchases more affordable.

I hope that these tips have inspired you. This Earth Day, take the first step towards changing your lifestyle, reducing your carbon footprint, and making your home smarter and more sustainable. 1. My favourite smart home device is my smart thermostat that turns my heat on and off at preset times and temps and I don’t have to touch it. It has definitely helped me save energy.

  2. I like my smart doorbell , it is rechargeable compared to my old one which needed battery replacements

  3. My bluetooth speaker is the closest thing I have to a smart home device and it’s been great to listen to my music on a nicer speaker, from anywhere in my house

  4. lights are the easiest to setup because most have apps and they have very few features to deal with

  5. I don’t have any devices as yet, but seeing how I can save energy and money it’s time to start.

  6. We don’t currently have any smart home devices, so I couldn’t tell which would be the easiest to set up.

  7. I like having the ability to seamlessly change the music from room to room on cleaning days instead of blasting all over empty space
cheap and easy with nest minis

  8. smart tech is poorly named- i’d call it complextech bc each new level of complexity just leads to more potential probz

  9. The easiest smart home products to set up are smart bulbs because they only take a few minutes to pair up to your system.

  10. Virtual assistants (Google Home, etc) are quite easy to set up. Just plug in and they’ll tell you exactly what to do!

  11. Our smart thermostat has saved us a ton of energy by automatically detecting when we’re away and adjusting the temperature accordingly!

  12. The Lutron Caseta Wireless Smart Dimmer Switches, at midnight all the lights are turned off automatically.

  13. The easiest smart home products to set up are smart speakers because you just need to connect to your wifi and Bluetooth and sometimes an app that is pretty straight forward and direct.

  14. The easiest smart device to set up has been the Google Nest Smoke Alarms. Once you connect one, it’s a simple case of pressing a couple of buttons on subsequent alarms and away it goes. So simple and easy!

  15. My favourite smart home device and the one that has saved me the most money are not actually the same thing! My favourite is my security system (cameras and doorbell). Being able to check that my home is safe remotely and respond to visitors has been wonderful (also great for deer spotting!). What has saved me the most money is lightbulbs/switches being set to a routine. Being able to say ‘goodnight’ to Google or Alexa and being sure that there are no lights left on in the house

  16. My best smart energy device is called windows. I open the drapes in the morning so the sun will heat my interior and close the drapes when the sun goes down to keep the heat inside. During the day the natural light from the sun gives me no need to turn on the lights, therefore also saving energy.

  17. I don’t know which of the smart home appliances would be the easiest to set up as we only have two and they have not been easy!

  18. I love my smart plugs. They improve energy consumption because I can turn off lamps that I may have forgotten about while I am out.
