The first few months with your new baby can be stressful, especially when it comes to feeding your little one. Whether you are strictly breastfeeding, strictly bottle feeding, or if you’re little one allows it, a combination of the two there are some great tools and accessories to help you enjoy this time.
My firstborn son was born very premature and breastfeeding didn’t work out for us, but I did get the experience of breastfeeding with my second son. I have tried many products to help make both situations easier, enjoyable and more relaxing for us both. Here are a few great options to check out for feeding your little one.
Medela Freestyle Flex Double Electric Breast Pump with Cooler & Carry Bag
With my little preemie, I pumped for as long as I could and if any of you have had the experience of using a hospital pump you know how amazing they are. It makes me so happy to see how far retail breast pumps have come for moms. I enjoyed both of my very different experiences feeding my boys. With my first being able to open the freezer and warm up a bottle of breast milk was often convenient but it also gave other family members a chance to feed him as well.
This Medela Freestyle Flex Double Electric Breast Pump with Cooler & Carry Bag will allow you to get the most milk out of a pumping session quickly. It’s a double pump and has 2-phase expression technology which means more milk in less time. It’s lightweight and discreet to use and the handheld Freestyle with digital screen allows you to start or pause pumping, switch expression mode, adjust vacuum levels, and activate the delay start function. Paired with the Companion App you’ll be able to accurately monitor your pumping sessions by session time, length of session and amount expressed. I think this feature is extremely useful as you’ll be able to monitor any changes in your milk production which is really important to new mommas. The rechargeable lithium ion batteries are an amazing feature and can deliver up to 8 double pumping sessions per charge. The bonus of this pump is the cooler and carry bag which is so nice for working moms or to have on the go.
Medela Pump In Style MaxFlow Double Electric Breast Pump
This Medela Pump In Style MaxFlow Double Electric Breast Pump has an innovative vacuum mechanism that uses both 2-Phase Expression and MaxFlow technologies. It’s perfect for everyday pumping and is specially designed for quick, easy and hygienic cleaning and pumping.
The adjustable carry bag makes it convenient for on-the-go and there’s a cooler bag to store your milk when needed. Included with MaxFlow pump are PersonalFit Flex Connectors, four breast shields in two sizes, four 150ml bottles with solid lids, two bottle stands, a cooler bag, Y tubing, a battery pack, the adjustable carry bag, instructions, and a quick start card.
Medela Pump In Style Double Electric Breast Pump with Backpack
There’s also this great backpack style option from Medela. Like the above two models, this Medela Pump In Style Double Electric Breast Pump with Backpack also features the 2-phase expression technology and is free from BPA, DEHP, and other phthalates.
Included in this style you’ll find four 150mL BPA-free bottles and lids, two 24mm PersonalFit breast shields, a cooler bag with ice pack, and one carrying backpack which is both stylish and convenient.
Medela Swing Single Electric Breast Pump
If you’re looking for a single basic pump for occasional or on-the-go pumping, you may want to check out this small but mighty Medela Swing Single Electric Breast Pump. Featuring the 2-phase expression technology and BPA, DEHP, and other phthalates free, this pump is lightweight and compact.
It has an adjustable suction knob to help you find the perfect setting and comes with one Calma nipple, two 150mL BPA-free bottles and lids, two 24mm PersonalFit breast shields, all in a black drawstring bag easy to take along with you.
Baby Brezza Formula Pro Advanced Formula Warmer
You can make preparing and warming your baby’s formula quick and easy with this Baby Brezza Formula Pro Advanced Formula Warmer. This warmer dispenses, mixes and heats your bottles perfectly every time. The digital controls and LCD control panel make it easy to set up and simple to use the fully customizable mixing system. It’s compatible with most bottle and formula brands and offers three heat settings, room temperature, body temperature and warmer than body temperature. The formula powder storage area is airtight which I think is an important feature as it also holds up to enough formula for twenty 8oz bottles.
I love that it’s compact and sleek in design and won’t take up too much space on your counter. Stick it next to your coffee maker and you’ll have the perfect coffee/milk bar.
Tips and tricks when feeding your baby
It’s been a few years since I’ve fed a baby and while there are so many new gadgets and accessories on the market there are some tried and true favourites that stand the test of time. One of my all-time favourites is a feeding pillow. These pillows are durable and are useful as your baby grows. They’re not only great to keep your baby comfortable but they’ll help stop your arm from falling asleep during feeds. Once your little one can hold their own bottle, feeding pillows are great to prop them on for more independence. Most, if not all have a removable cover that’s machine washable and made of plush fabric that will be gentle on your baby’s skin. I always took feeding my boys those early months as a way to put my feet up, relax and enjoy a good snuggle and the right nursing pillow will make those moments more enjoyable.
If you’re a breastfeeding Momma then you know you can end up feeding your little one in all kinds of places and at all times of the day. For some women breastfeeding in public can be intimate and you may choose to use a cover-up of sorts for privacy. My main reason for using one with my second son was that it helped stop surrounding distractions. There are some pretty, multi-functional and stylish cover-ups and scarves on the market these days to fit your feeding needs.
Last of all, you’ll be spending many hours feeding your baby so make your home space comfortable and welcoming with a relaxing and inviting chair, water and snacks for yourself, a burping cloth or receiving blanket, a feeding pillow and some good entertainment via tech or a good book. With two fast growing sons, I say enjoy this time with your new addition.
