The ASUS ROG Rapture GT6 Wi-Fi 6 is one of the most advanced gaming-centric mesh systems I’ve ever used. When it comes to wireless routers the GT6 offers powerful hardware and reliable performance. The tri-band signal, smart antenna and Wi-Fi 6 standard combine to offer extreme speed and coverage. The GT6 also sports Gigabit Ethernet LAN ports that offer ultrafast wired connections, making it perfect for those who require the highest performance possible. Additionally, the router features technologies such as AiMesh, Adaptive QoS, and parental controls allowing you to customize your gaming experience while ensuring secure browsing and streaming. With its sleek design and feature-packed capabilities, the ROG GT6 is an ideal solution for any gamer looking to take their gaming experience to the next level. Let’s unbox, set up, and test out the mesh system in my full review.
Rapture GT6 unboxing and hardware impressions
Straight out of the box, the first thing you’ll notice is the ASUS ROG Rapture GT6 system has two units. The sleek, edgy bodies of the hardware have similar aesthetic treatments that the rest of the ROG line features. The most striking part of the design is the RGB lighting at the front of each unit indicating set-up and connectivity status. You can customize the lighting across both units or turn off the lights completely.
The translucent housing at the top of each unit shows off the multiple directional antennae. It’s definitely on the flashy side and will stand out from more understated settings. I found it looked great in my gaming space, its bold and punchy design matched my PC rig. Its looks also back up its performance because this is one fast piece of hardware.
What’s included in the ROG Rapture GT6 box
The dual-module system also comes with a variety of components and accessories to get you up and running. Inside the box, you’ll find the 2 main units, packing 9 internal antennas between them for expanded coverage. Additionally, there’s an RJ-45 cable, power adapter, quick start guide, and Warranty Card. With everything included in the package, you can easily set-up a high-performance gaming network straight out of the box.
Set-up and performance testing of the Rapture GT6
Even with all the advanced settings of the device, the ASUS mobile app made the setup process a snap. It’s available for both iOS and Android devices, and the user interface is easy to use. All that is required is to scan the QR code on the device and the app will walk you through the rest of the steps. The process is so streamlined, that I was up and running in less than 10 minutes.
The ASUS setup app
The ASUS phone app allows you to quickly configure your wireless network with just a few taps. You have access to all the features like setting up parental controls so kids can stay safe online as well as options for customizing various settings like QoS optimized bandwidth allocation for games and streaming media. Additionally, you can take advantage of AiMesh technology which allows you to connect compatible ASUS routers as part of a customized mesh network. ASUS is no stranger to engineering high-performance mesh networks, but the GT6 is the first to put a central focus on gaming.
ASUS ROG Rapture GT6 router performance
Once I was all set up, I was able to test out the performance of the device. It packs a Wi-Fi 6 tri-band gaming mesh system with dedicated high-performance 5Ghz backhaul and 160 MHz channels that provide ultrafast speeds of up to 10,000 Mbps. In my tests, I achieved download speeds at an average of 350 Mbps. This is more than enough for high-quality 4K streaming and gaming. The coverage was also excellent, easily reaching my entire house with a reliable signal; the mesh system kept speeds consistent even on the second floor of my home.
These two modules are essentially the same, providing a similar level of signal around your whole network. It is important to keep the hardware on different ends of your living space (at least 3 metres apart) so they can function as intended.
ROG Rapture GT6 gaming-specific features
The Rapture GT6 has gaming-specific features to make your play experience even better. One of the most notable is its Game Boost Technology, which automatically optimizes bandwidth for games so you can get the best possible performance out of your network. If the GT6 is under heavy load from multiple streaming devices or other downloads, gaming devices get priority to reduce any latency. This helps to provide smoother real-time gameplay by reducing lag spikes and maintaining consistent connection speeds between each device on your network. There is also a physical gaming port on the router so you have the option to keep some devices hardwired.
I was able to test the gaming prioritization while playing with games like Halo Infinite Multiplayer, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II and Warzone. I was very impressed with the performance of the GT6, as kept my connectivity and ping very strong. My family “stress tested” the hardware by having my son watch a Disney Plus 4K UHD stream, while also running a standard definition Netflix show while gaming on my PC. At the same time I was playing online multiplayer games. The results were excellent, and I didn’t have any issues with lag or connectivity. The GT6 was also able to handle the streaming side of things because the picture quality didn’t take any noticeable hits either.
Final thoughts on the ROG Rapture GT6
If you’re looking for a powerful, customizable router that will take your gaming experience to the next level, the ASUS ROG Rapture GT6 Wi-Fi 6 is an excellent choice. It has a multitude of options for those who need reliable performance without sacrificing speed or stability. It comes with advanced security features, AiMesh capability, game-centric optimizations, parental controls, and an Adaptive QoS to prioritize network traffic for gaming. Additionally, it includes the ASUS Router App that lets you easily manage your network settings from your smartphone or tablet. With its cutting-edge design and feature-packed capabilities, the ROG GT6 can provide gamers with a smooth and fast connection for gaming when compared to traditional routers. It’s easy to set up and provides an excellent user experience whether streaming movies or playing intense multiplayer games with friends. The ROG GT6 is an ideal solution for gamers looking for a trusty mesh system.
