Sometimes you have to make a hard choice when you pick your PC accessories: Do you risk wireless, or do you live with wire clutter? Logitech knows about that dilemma, and has engineered a solution. The Logitech G Pro X series of gaming gear claims to have enhanced Lightspeed wireless technology that can match the performance of wired connections. I took a look at the Logitech G Pro X Superlight 2 mouse, the Logitech G Pro X TKL Lightspeed keyboard, and the Logitech G Pro X 2 Lightspeed headset to see if they perform as promised.
Logitech G Pro X Superlight 2 mouse
Logitech are telling the truth when they call this a “superlight” mouse. When I held the Pro X Superlight 2 in the palm of my hand, I honestly had difficulty accepting that it was a fully functional mouse with all the needed internal components. I assumed there was a catch, some additional piece of hardware I needed to pop into the mouse. But it is simply an amazingly light wireless mouse.
There are a couple of advantages to a low weight mouse. First and most importantly, it improves your performance. Less weight means faster movements. And moving that light weight lessens the amount of physical strain on your wrist and hand. So you will get better performance with increased comfort.
And speaking of quick movement, the Pro X Superlight 2 mouse has a non-stick PFTE coating on its feet so the mouse glides across the mouse pad. I was impressed with the smooth movement, with just enough friction for tactile feedback.
The switches within the Logitech Pro X Superlight 2 mouse are a hybrid of optical and mechanical switches. You get the speed of optical switches, with the lower power use and physical feedback of a mechanical switch.
Logitech G Pro X 2 Lightspeed headset
Do your teammates hear you clearly? That’s a pretty important question to answer when you’re about to go to battle. If the rest of the squad can’t hear your commands, you’re one step closer to losing. The Logitech G Pro X 2 LIGHTSPEED headset integrates BLUE VO!CE technology, which reduces microphone noise and gives you real time filters. So that means your voice will be clearer and richer when you speak. And the improvement in voice quality will help if you’re recording digital content or using the headset for work purposes.
I appreciated that the microphone boom arm is detachable, so I could use the headset for listening in situations that the microphone was unneeded. It’s a little weird to have a microphone boom arm when you’re listening to music and drinking a coffee at the local coffee shop. The overall sound quality through the Logitech Pro X 2’s 50mm graphene drivers was great, with clear treble and bass and easily distinguishable sounds within each game. I also found the headset comfortable to wear for extended periods of time. The controls on the headset are a little difficult to quickly adjust without looking at them but with time you get used to them.
Logitech G Pro X TKL Lightspeed keyboard
Just when you thought there were no more acronyms to learn, a new one arrives. A Tenkeyless (TKL) keyboard is one that does not have a numeric keypad on the right side of the board. So the Logitech G Pro X TKL lightspeed keyboard is smaller than a keyboard that has a numeric pad, but still otherwise full-sized. You’ll save precious desk space without sacrificing functionality.
If you happen to be one of the unique individuals who uses the numeric keypad as a primary gaming input method, you’ll need to spend time adjusting your play style. But for most of us, the number pad sits unused during most games.
You will get up to 50 hours of battery life per charge from the Pro X TKL keyboard, and you can continue to use it while its recharging via the USB cable. You can even choose to use the USB connection for a wired data connection, instead of using the Lightspeed or Bluetooth wireless connections.
What is Lightspeed?
Lightspeed is an improved 2.4GHz RF wireless connectivity option. By improving the transmitters and receivers, Logitech creates an improved end to end wireless solution. You’ll see the benefits in the consistent connection and low latency provided. Their goal is to have the wireless connection function as reliably and as fast as a wired connection.
In my testing, the Lightspeed connection was more reliable than standard 2.4GHz connections. I also found it to be better than connecting via Bluetooth. It’s difficult to completely match the quality of a wired connection, but the Logitech Pro X peripherals came as close as possible.
The only drawback to the Lightspeed connection is the need for the receiver to be plugged in to a USB port. Your desktop gaming PC will most likely have USB ports to spare, but you might have more devices than USB ports for your gaming laptop.
If you don’t want to use the Lightspeed connection, you have the option of using Bluetooth instead for the keyboard and the headset. The Bluetooth performance was good, though I could notice a bit of latency when I had several other Bluetooth devices connect to my PC. So if you have a lot of Bluetooth devices in use, you may want to stick with the Lightspeed connection.
Logitech G-Hub software
Logitech offers a centralized software solution to customize your Logitech device settings. The Logitech G-Hub software allows you to make those performance enhancing tweaks to your exact specification. You can coordinate the RGB light effects of the Pro X TKL keyboard with your other RGB sources. The G-Hub software allows you to save setting profiles for individual games, or download the setting profiles used by top ranked eSports players.
You can also adjust your webcam and speaker settings easily. And if your gaming involves streaming, the G-Hub software is compatible with OBS studio and other third party streaming apps. The G-Hub software seamlessly recognized each Logitech device I added and gave me full control over a comprehensive array of customizable settings.
The 1 millisecond report rate of the Logitech Pro X TKL keyboard is the standard for gaming keyboards. I found the response time to be quick and without any noticeable instances of lag. Which is good news, since a slow report rate would be horribly detrimental to your gaming performance.
Final thoughts
I am normally an advocate of wired connections for all my gaming peripherals. There is nothing I dislike more than a lag in mouse movement, or a slow response to a key press. But surprisingly, the LIGHTSPEED wireless technology did deliver the reliable and fast response that I need. You can easily pair two Lightspeed devices with one USB receiver, but any additional devices will need another receiver. For almost every desktop PC gamer, their PC has USB ports to spare.
The Logitech G Pro X TKL lightspeed keyboard was responsive and sturdy. It really feels like it can take the wear and tear that my panicked key mashing can inflict. Now that I’ve tried a TKL keyboard, I think I’ll stick with them. It frees up desk space without sacrificing gaming functionality.
I really enjoyed the Logitech G Pro X Superlight 2 mouse. You’d think I would have stopped marveling at how light the mouse was, but I never did. The smooth motion and light weight made it incredibly comfortable to use. The battery life was great, too.
Finally, the Logitech G Pro X 2 Lightspeed headset delivered good quality sound and comfort. It was a nice touch that the G-Hub software applied a filter to my voice to make it sound much more professional than I actually am. Since I use a laptop as my primary gaming PC, I decided to primarily use Bluetooth for the headset to avoid having a second USB port taken up by a receiver. And I had good, reliable connectivity with both wireless methods.
So overall, the Logitech Pro X line of gaming peripherals delivered on their promise of reliable wireless connectivity and good technical performance. It’s easy to recommend them. You can also explore more of Logitech’s G Pro accessories for gaming at Best Buy. Happy shopping!
