NVIDIA recently unveiled its new SUPER line of graphics cards. At CES 2024, we were treated to a refresh of a few models of the RTX 40 series graphics cards, and the first to arrive at Best Buy is the GeForce 4070 SUPER. It features more cores than the previous version to help ensure that the highest settings of modern games at 1440p feel very smooth. It even opens the door to 4K gaming for many popular titles.
Some of the main specs of the unit remain unchanged. Although the base speed is a bit faster (1.98 GHz vs. 1.92 GHz), it’s still a 12 GB card with a boosted clock of 2.48 GHz. It also has the same 3 DisplayPorts and single HDMI port. The main upgrade concerns the processing power.
Extra Cores
The GeForce 4070 SUPER features 20% more cores than the regular 4070. In terms of CUDA cores, we are looking at 7168 cores, 1280 more than the predecessor’s 5888. These cores take care of the main processing on a GPU. So, in this case, more is definitely better.
Additionally, there are 10 more ray tracing cores (56). They speed up ray tracing operations for an immersive and realistic gaming experience. Having units that are dedicated to this calculation is how NVIDIA managed to achieve real-time ray tracing in video games.
Lastly, Tensor cores have increased from 184 to 224. These cores are the ones that accelerate the AI.
AI-Powered Graphics

Lastly, DLSS 3.5, featured on the GeForce 4070 SUPER, also applies ray reconstruction, which increases pixels and the quality of the representation of light.
