Samsung G3 G5 G7 monitor contest at Best Buy

Samsung Odyssey series monitors deliver amazing gaming and productivity. We already gave away the largest G9 monitors in a contest earlier this year. Now you have a chance to win one three different sizes and styles of Odyssey monitors: the G3, G5, and the G7. These monitors offer superior performance. I’ll highlight some of the features that differentiate them. Then you’ll have a chance to weigh in on which features are most important to you to enter this contest.

Display size an obvious consideration for your new Samsung Monitor

I have to admit, I am not into the massive monitors like Samsung’s G9 with its 49″ screen. Firstly, I don’t have the room for one. Secondly, and most importantly, I am an infrequent gamer, so I would not get the benefit of total immersion that a gamer embraces with one or more large monitors. Of the three monitors that we are giving away in this contest, the G3 would be perfect for me with its 24″ screen, a huge improvement over the 21 inch screen I currently use. The G5’s 27″ and the G7’s 28″ wouldn’t be a problem for my space, and I might be in heaven with the extra space (I’d have to try it and see).

Here is a table of some of the other key features found in these three monitors (thanks to Marcus Wong who created this table for his detailed review of these three monitors).

As you can see, there are some clear differences in addition to screen size.

Which feature is the most important when choosing a gaming monitor

Monitors are tricky things to buy. You try to compare models but there are so many features and some of these will not likely weigh on your decision at all. For example, in the monitors Best Buy is giving away in this contest, few people would choose one over the other based on the difference in HDMI video input. HDMI 1.4 is perfectly fine for the G3 with its 1080p display, but the G7 with its 4K display requires the new HDMI 2.1 standard (it supports a 4K signal at 120Hz) or you wouldn’t get the benefit of the higher resolution screen. So, some people might choose the G7 based on its 4k resolution, rather than its HDMI support, and other people will be fine with the resolution of the G3, and spend less money for a monitor that perfectly suits their needs.

And that raises a good point about monitors: the more modern the features, the higher the price. Yes, this applies to technology in general and monitors are not exempt. So when selecting a new monitor many people focus on two or three features and also on the price. For example, my daughter recently bought a monitor and a main consideration was that it was white to match her apartment (and she found exactly what she wanted at Best Buy!).

Think about what you want in a monitor and then enter this contest for a chance to win one of these three monitors.

How to enter

Entering this contest is easy and you can enter in two different ways.

  1. In a comment below, tell us about three features that you think are the most important when you are shopping for a monitor. For example, if you mention colour, what about colour: should it be dark like the monitors we are giving away or perhaps pink like the Samsung M8 monitor to match your decor?
  2. In a comment beneath the review article for these monitors on Best Buy’s blog, tell us which of the three monitors he discusses is your favourite and why.

What you can win

At the end of this contest, we will randomly select three (3) eligible entries to each win one of the three monitors that we sent out for review: a Samsung Odyssey G3, G5, or G7 gaming monitor.

This contest runs from May 19th to June 2nd.

Remember you can enter once in a comment below and once in a comment on the review article for these monitors. However, you can boost your chances of getting to see and try these monitors by telling your friends and family to enter too!

  1. The 1000 radius curve to let me see more content easily, the HDR which I would love to replay some games and movies with this enabled and lastly the G5’s 27″ monitor which is the perfect fit for my desk.

  2. The three features I would consider most when buying a new monitor are 1. Price, 2. Size and 3. Refresh rate. I don’t have a big budget, and honestly don’t play enough PC games to justify something designed for gamers. But I do find a good size and refresh rate helps me be more productive and keeps my eyes from getting tired.

  3. 1. The ability to replicate real colours so everything looks gorgeous
    2. Refresh rate for FPS gaming
    3. Build quality. I’ve seen monitors that light bleed. It is terrible

  4. Size (28 inch preferred) , Resolution (must be 4K) and Refresh rate (1ms response time and a 144Hz refresh rate) are all very important to me when shopping for a monitor.

  5. Three features that are the most important when you are shopping for a monitor:
    1. Shape – a slightly concave monitor can create more interactive viewing;
    2. Quality – the monitor has to be well made with a warranty for defective parts;
    3. Size – the bigger the monitor, the better. 🙂

  6. Resolution, size and video input as all of these contribute to your viewing experience in a major way. I would love a G7.

  7. Colour of the plastic on monitor, sturdiness of base and the logo’s appeal are all factors to consider.

  8. The resolution, size, and compatibility are the biggest things I look for in a monitor.

  9. 144 Hz refresh rate & 1ms Response time appeal to me. And the G5 curved screen is definitely something I’d like to experience – I see myself watching more movies on my computer monitor in the future (than on a TV).

  10. When I would be shopping for a monitor I would be wanting a white color for a super clean streamlined look, an adjustable height with easy up and down on the fly and finally a portrait mode for ease of reading plans at work.
    Of the three Samsung Odyssey gaming monitors, I would choose the G5 as I love the curved panel.

  11. My pick is obviously the G9 not only the best one but the technology that is put in to it. I recently dropped my 30” Samsung monitor so I need to replace it thanks Tom.

  12. -input and output ports, for use with multi devices
    – high response time for gaming.
    -size-when is it ever too big

    Samsung Odyssey G5-I like the curved screen

  13. Samsung Odyssey G7 28 » 4K UHD 144Hz 1ms IPS LCD FreeSync Gaming Monitor (LS28AG700NNXZA) Pour la qualité des graphiques plus que réalistes. Et le taux de rafraichissement.

  15. 1. The size of the monitor – I would love to have a 36″ monitor for graphic design and games, though the he G5’s 27″ and the G7’s 28″ sizes are great too!
    2. Resolution has to be high enough on the monitor for crisp play back of videos, pictures, and games, especially if it is a bigger monitor
    3. Price has to be somewhat reasonable, so as most of the games I play do not require super-fast refresh rates I can sacrifice on that somewhat to reduce the price

  16. Can I say that as long as it doesn’t hurt my eyes and give me a headache 3 times.
    1. Easy on the eyes. (Migraine)
    2. The size (I’m in a bachelor)
    3. The weight (my desk is cheap)

  17. What I find important to me in respect to these particular monitors is that the each of them would be conventional for the space I’m living. The resolution and refresh rate would be perfect for the Specs of my GPU. With the inclusion of multiple ports I wouldn’t have to worry about making the perfect set up for myself. The cherry on top would be that it’s from a trusted seller as well

  18. 1. The size of the monitor – The bigger the better
    2. The price – It’s gotta be affordable
    3. The resolution – I love a nice crisp picture!

    Thanks!

  19. Screen size as that will make gaming more enjoyable
    Response rate as that will lessen the lag
    Price as should not be very expensive

  20. My three important features are refresh rate, response time, and available ports (I like having the choice between DVI, HDMI, Display, etc)

  21. 1. A good quality brand to ensure that it is reliable and can match my PCs GPU
    2. A curved screen, such as provided by the G5, to create a more theatrical gaming experience!!
    3.) The clearest picture quality I can get!! I love little details and I want to see them in full glory!

  22. 1. A good quality brand, such as Samsung, LG or BenQ, to ensure that it is reliable;
    2. A decent screen size (the larger the better, such as the 27″ G5 or the 28″ G7) to allow better visual experience when working or gaming;
    3. I personally prefer a curved screen, such as provided by the G5, as not only does it have an interesting look, it would fit better on my desk.

  23. #1. Quality brand you can trust.
    #2 Latest specifications that your GPU can handle.
    #3 Warranty

  24. 1. It should always ALWAYS be at least 1440p (2560×1440) refresh rate should be at least 75hz price should be around $200-350 cant go too expensive who could afford that. I don’t want to be that wide since it will ruin the experience for me. should be at least 90% colour correct. Less than 4ms response time. 4K I Don’t use too much but I’m thinking of having an Xbox so 4K is good but 2560x1440p is still great for me. it should support HDMI 2.0 and DisplayPort 1.4a or higher. All I need is free-sync I don’t use G-sync even tho I have an Nvidia card. I don’t really like curved monitors too much but it’s not a con for me. Should be at least 27 inches. What is see should be sharp. I am not picky because when I’m getting anything like this for free I would accept anything. my current monitor is not garbage it’s pretty decent only thing I don’t like is the refresh rate being 60hz but it is 4k 27 inches. (Asus pb287). I will do a review with a youtube video. Any monitor from you guys will be awesome. Thanks for giving me the chance!

  25. I think it price, resolution and colour are very important. Feels good when your monitor matches and not stick out like a sore thumb.

  26. For me personally, the three most important features when I consider a gaming monitor are the three R’s. Refresh rate, Response rate, and Resolution. 120 to 144 hz refresh rate, 1 ms response rate, and 1440p is the sweet spot for me. Having 4k resolution would just be the cherry on top.

  27. 4k resolution is one of my preference, it has to be big size and high refresh rate thank you and i hope that i win the contest
