Logitech Vertical Lift mouseA good mouse is essential to working effectively and comfortably at your computer. As many of us spend our work and leisure time in front of our computers, the importance of a well designed mouse can’t be understated. After all, a poorly designed mouse can lead to sore fingers and wrists. Today I’ll be reviewing the Logitech Lift vertical mouse. Like its name suggests, this mouse has a unique design meant to improve ergonomics and comfort. In this review I’ll discuss the Vertical Lift’s design, connectivity options, battery life, day-to-day use, and share my final thoughts.

The Logitech Lift mouse has a unique and comfortable design

First, a note that the test unit that I’m using is a right handed unit. Unlike some mice which can be swappable between left and right handed users, the design of the Lift is not swappable. Because of this users need to be mindful of selecting a left or right handed unit when purchasing the mouse.

The design of the Logitech Lift is interesting. Right away you’ll notice that this mouse has a vertical design which is different to most mice on the market. The body is all plastic with the palm rest coated in a rubberized texture for better grip. The Lift comes with seven buttons. The first three are the most common buttons on a mouse: the scroll whee and left and right click buttons. There are an additional two buttons near the thumb that can be customized in the Logi Options+ software, which I will discuss later. On the top you will also find a DPI button which allows you to control the mouse speed. Finally, the bottom of the mouse has another button which allows you to select which device the mouse is connected to.

Multiple connectivity options on the Logitech Lift vertical mouse

As someone with multiple computing devices I always appreciate when peripherals support multiple connections. The Lift has dual connectivity options that lets you connect up to three devices. The first connectivity option is the 2.4GHz band which is connected using a USB-A wireless receiver. The second connectivity option is done with Bluetooth. Using Bluetooth, the Lift is able to connect to two different devices.

Changing the Lift’s connection is as simple as pressing the button on the bottom of the mouse. A single press automatically changes the mouse connection to the next connection. In my testing connecting to the next device was simple and almost instantaneous. Overall, changing the Lift’s connectivity was consistent and fast.

Logitech Lift ergonomic mouse in day-to-day use

When I first saw the Lift I thought it would take me time to get used to the design. I was surprised to find out that there’s little to no adjustments needed. Within seconds of using the mouse I was comfortable and doing the same actions on my computer as my regular mouse. When it comes to clicking, Logitech designed the Lift to be silent. Button presses are barely audible. Similarly the scroll wheel is quiet but still sensitive to your commands.

The only big change with the Lift is that the orientation of your hand is moved from horizontal to vertical. Since the mouse has a vertical profile it stands about twice as high as a regular mouse. For me, this means that when moving my hand from the keyboard back to the mouse I have to remember to lift my hand higher or I will end up bumping my hand into the mouse. Another difference I noticed with the Lift is that it’s on the heavier side. When you compare the Lift to other daily use mice you’ll immediately notice that the Lift weighs more. In day-to-day use this means that it will take a bit more effort to move the mouse around.

Overall, Logitech clearly put a lot of thought into the design and use of the Lift vertical mouse. It has a very small learning curve and is almost immediately comfortable to use.

Ultra long battery life on the Logitech Lift mouse

According to Logitech the Lift has a battery life of 2 years on a single AA battery. The battery can easily be swapped by opening up the battery compartment on the bottom of the mouse. I’m surprised to see that Logitech’s put careful thought into designing an easy to open battery compartment. It requires very little effort—you simply press down on the door and it immediately pops open. If you look closely, the battery door is held on with magnets. This is a great design consideration and actually makes me wish more manufacturers did this.

The Logitech Lift vertical mouse works well for casual gaming

Although the Lift is not designed for gaming I had to give it a shot. If you’ve seen my previous reviews, Call of Duty is one of my favourite games to play. Naturally, I had to test out the Lift while gaming. Surprisingly, the mouse did well in my test on COD. This is thanks to three key buttons. The first two are the customizable thumb buttons and the third is the DPI button which allows me to set mouse sensitivity. Overall, I’m happy to say that for light and casual gaming the Lift will do just fine.

Logi Options+ software

Logitech’s Logi Options+ software

When you plug the Logitech Lift mouse into your computer for the first time you will be prompted to download the Logi Options+ software. Something I really like in this software is the ability to customize buttons based on the application you’re using. This allows you to use the same buttons for different purposes without having to remap your buttons. The Logi Options+ software also allows you to view battery life and review tutorials on how to most effectively use the mouse.

The Logitech Lift is a fantastic mouse

I enjoyed my time testing the Logitech Lift vertical ergonomic mouse. While the design is a departure from the traditional mouse, the Lift is easy to pick up and use. I like its silent button presses, long battery life, and ability to connect to multiple devices. During extended use with this mouse my hand and arm remained comfortable and I even found myself preferring to use the Lift over my traditional mouse. If you’re in the market for a new mouse and are looking for something that’s comfortable I suggest checking out the Logitech Lift.
