One of the most personal technologies has to be the ereader, like those offered by Kobo. I realize that some of them can surf the web and view multimedia, but for me, they are made for reading books. They are perfectly designed for that one simple task. They are lightweight, with a display that is easy on the eyes in daylight, or at night, and they easily fit in one hand. Load one with all your favourite books and it quickly holds a special place in your heart. Enter this contest and you might just win the newest ereader from Kobo, the Kobo Clara HD.

Why do I love Kobo eReaders so much

Let me tell you a little story, a true story. Once upon a time I had a Kobo ereader, a gift from my children, and I used it all the time. I read a huge assortment of novels on my cherished Kobo: mysteries, historical fiction, classics, trashy pop fiction, non-fiction and more. My brain was filled with great characters and great stories. I took my Kobo everywhere: on cruises in the Caribbean, on flights to Europe, and even back and forth in my car daily so that at any moment I could take a few minutes’ break, just me and my Kobo.

Then tragedy struck: one evening while rushing to take groceries into the house to make dinner, I forgot my Kobo in the car. Wouldn’t you know it, a thief broke into my car and stole it. I was shattered! End of story. However, I still feel the loss. You never know how much you love something until it’s gone.

  1. Love how compact they are and can be carried anywhere . You always have a book to read with you.

  2. I like that it is so lightweight compared to the hard copy books which are so heavy. I also like I can have many books loaded on it when going on vacation and it really takes up no room at all in my luggage.

  3. I like that the Kobo eReader is lightweight and holds hundreds of books which makes it great for my daily commutes

  4. I love e-readers! I used to carry one everywhere, out doing errands, waiting at the dentist’s office, or travelling. Not having to lug around actual books was quite freeing. If I had a moment to stop for a quick coffee or grab a quiet moment, my e-reader was right there. It is so convenient!

  5. The best quality eReaders and they’re Amazon-free. Love that. I’ve been a fan of Kobo since they were Shortcovers. The Clara looks perfect.

  6. My wife uses her old Kobo Glo extensively and is in need of a newer model. She loves the easy-to-use interface and the ability to buy books from the device directly. Long battery life is also a bonus compared to conventional tablets.

  7. The fact that it fits in a sandwich baggie so I can take it to the beach without worrying about it getting wet or sandy.

  8. I love the screen size, and I love reading in bed without shining blue light from a backlit screen into my face! Kobo makes the best ones, too. I love that Overdrive compatibility!

  9. I love having tons of books in a small package plus how the display only uses power to change the image and not during the entire display time.

  10. One of the most comfortable eReader for my eyes. With dry eye syndrome hard to find something comfortable to read. With the even lighting and blue light filter really helps my eyes

  11. Travelling and being able to take your whole library with you. Plus, being able to read no matter the lighting inside or out.

  12. I bought my kobo when they first came out and was immediately hooked. At that point they came loaded with 100 free classics, which was fantastic. I took it everywhere and hand hundreds of books at my disposal. Two years later my kobo stopped working after installing updates. After contacting the company they sent me a refurbished ereader, as it was a known problem at the time, but lost the 100 classics that came on my original. About a year later, at age 32, I got diagnosed with arthritis and was unable to continue working and have been out of work for the past six years and have undergone five surgerys. My kobo was my saving grace since I was practically bedridden. It got me through two hip replacements as well as one knee surgery. Unfortunately, about two years later my refurbished kobo, once again, got fried while installing updates. This time kobo refused to do anything about it. Missing my kobo so much a few months later I broke down and decided to give kobo one more chance to redeem themselves and I bought a new kobo Aura 2. This was a huge mistake as this time it only lasted three months. I was so discouraged and upset with kobo that I returned the ereader and have missed reading on my kobo ever since. I would love to give them another chance as they are fantastic as long as they are working, but as I am still out of work and on a fixed income buying a kobo every three months, is not an investment I am willing to make, not to mention how challenging it is for me to get to the store.

  13. Would love to use the kobo for reading on the go. The compact and lightweight design on the kobo Clara HD is ideal for travel!

  14. I love that my kobo removes all my normal excuses for not reading more. Since getting my kobo, I’ve read as many books in 6 months as I have in the previous 6 years!

  15. I currently read on an old Ipad the battery does not last very long at all (2hrs max) I also tend to get distracted by all the other apps on it so when I go to read I usually end up doing something else and I never get the book done!
“Sorry your Kobo was stolen…I hear they sell them at Best Buy 😉

  16. I love Kobo ereaders because it’s very practical! It’s perfect for commuters, like myself, because it’s so lightweight, and slim, so I can slip it into my bag without adding much weight or bulk. I can carry many many books with me at all times and the fact that you can read one handed makes them even more practical as a commuter when I have to stand on the bus or train. The display is very functional, and I don’t find I get motion sickness in the same way that I do with my phone or other mobile displays. It’s just like reading a book, especially because the screen does not reflect a lot of light. I also appreciate that kobo is compatible with overdrive and epub formatted books, so I can take out library books and read them, at no charge. There’s so much to love about the kobo!!!!

  17. I appreciate the ability to highlight and annotate epubs and have these accessible on different devices.

  18. Ever since my childhood I’ve loved reading: softback, hardcover, books I’ve bought, books I’ve borrowed, back of cereal boxes, anything and everything.

Back in the era of the PDA I started to read on my Palm Pilot, and as I upgraded PDAs kept reading away.

Then I saw the Kindles, but not being a fan of Amazon I stayed away.

Along came Kobo and their original eReader; I preordered and when it arrived fell on love. Since then I hate to think how many models of Kobo’s I’ve used.

I love the ability to carry a range of books with me at all times, to be able to read in those down times we all experience. I love being able to save newspaper and magazine articles to Pocket and then read them at leisure on my Kobo.

  19. So I don’t have to carry around all of my books when I backpack and a best chance for me to experience the slimmest, lightest, and most peaceful way to read my e-books this summer.

  20. Battery life is the best thing for me. I travel off grid for extended periods of time so have a lot of info in a lightweight package that doesn’t draw in my limited supply of power is essential.

  21. I love the Kobo eReaders because they are easy to carry around and hold and read for long periods. The e-ink and light for night reading is great, and I like to be able to set the font size to be easily readable.

  22. I love the size and weight of this ereader. The bigger ones always seem to tire out my hand and wrist.

  23. These are the best way to travel and enjoying the love of reading at the same time. So light just slip it in your bag take it every where.

  24. I like a kobo reader because of how light weight and multi use it is . the battery life is an added benefit for anyone that is too busy to charge their device everyday. Another reason why I like kobo reader is because you can link it to your Toronto library account. With this feature you do not always how to buy books you will only maybe read once. Another great thing is that you do not have to go to the library to drop off the book or even pick it up. Each year the kobo gets more advanced and I cannot to see what they come out with next. if I win it would mean the world to me.

  25. As someone with a book a day habit and who has to travel for work, the kobo is a godsend. Tragedy struck my old kobo when the charging port malfunctioned. I would love the able to have a kobo once more.

  26. I love kobo because you can have an entire library in a small device and read whatever book you like whenever you like.

  27. Me encanta. I loved it for all what I can read without the need of having a physical book. I loved because I can loan thousands of books from my library.
Now I want my wife to finally move into an ereader so we can let go of her physical books

  28. I love how my Kobo e-reader has the lighting capability to get me through the long nights when I’m so immersed in a book that I can’t sleep.
