The new Logitech MX Master 4 is a mouse but once you explore its capabilities, it feels a lot more like a productivity-focused tool. The MX Master series earns its reputation in how it allows you to decide what to customize to suit your own work style. Logitech only takes that further here with this mouse that can boost productivity with an integrated MX setup.

It starts by integrating customizable haptic feedback to add another intuitive method of interacting with onscreen content. It carries on with Actions Ring, a digital control overlay Logitech previously introduced in its Creative Console. This not only offers a simpler way to switch between devices but also assign shortcuts specific to supported apps for smoother workflows and less moving around.

Design refinements and useful ergonomic tweaks add to an impressive array of features that makes this mouse an attractive option for any work environment.

New adjustable haptic feedback

The MX Master 4 features an all-new thumb rest powered by a haptic motor that doubles as an actionable button you can openly customize. In the Logi Options+ software, you can decide the button’s sensitivity, like whether you want the button to feel firm or have a softer touch. If you want that to vary by app, there’s flexibility to make that happen, too.

The tactile vibrations can be subtle or dynamic in how they respond to specific actions and commands, maintaining a physical interaction that feels lively and precise. It’s not unlike how you feel haptics vibrate on a smartphone when interacting with certain apps or games that trigger feedback to coincide with selections or movement onscreen.

Being fully customizable, you always have the option to turn it on or off entirely—or even set it for different apps in the Logi Options+ software. For instance, you might want strong tactile feedback while editing in Photoshop but prefer a gentler response (or none at all) while browsing. This way, you can get the feedback you’re looking for however you think works best. Professionals and content creators will likely appreciate this form of communication as a means to knowing when something’s actually happening as intended.

The mouse even vibrates when searching for a connection going into pairing mode or alerting you to a low battery without you checking for any visual cues.

Logitech’s improved Logi Bolt wireless tech and new USB-C receiver come with the global non-Mac version, offering fast and reliable connectivity is when you’d rather avoid Bluetooth in congested office environments. The one catch is there’s no onboard storage slot in the mouse for the new dongle, so you will want to be mindful about where you place it.

Setting up your own flow with the Actions Ring

Logitech also adapts its Actions Ring, a digital control overlay originally introduced in the Logitech Creative Console, to the MX Master 4, turning the mouse into a productivity workhorse.  This is the first mouse with a dedicated Actions Ring button to launch it.

The options within Logi Options+ are substantial and varied, allowing you to not only switch between devices when using two computers at your desk, but also automate routine functions to save time. Going over the numbers, Logitech claims professionals can save up to 33% of their time and reduce repetitive mouse movements by 63%.

Plenty of popular apps integrate with the Actions Ring, including Photoshop, Lightroom, Zoom, Excel, and Premiere Pro (coming soon). Here, you can map specific actions—like brush size adjustments, quick exports, or navigation commands—right to the mouse. If you’ve already set up Action Ring layouts for these and other apps through the Creative Console, you can always migrate them to the MX Master 4, ensuring you don’t lose any time setting them all up again.

All this can feel even more seamless in how the Action Ring enables quick device switching. You can cross between up to three connected devices—regardless of whether they’re running Windows, macOS, Linux, ChromeOS, iPadOS or Android. No interrupted workflows, especially when Logitech Flow can copy and paste between systems as if they were all one.

Making an ergonomic difference

It also feels better when the ergonomics also line up just right. Logitech doesn’t try to fix what’s not broken but rather refines the MX Master 4 to make it more comfortable and functional. That includes relocating the gesture buttons closer to the thumb wheel, which now has extended rotation for smoother side-to-side navigation.

The body also sees an upgrade with durable and stain-resistant silicone that’s subtlety textured for a secure grip and better longevity in the long run. These slight refinements should ensure buttons and wheels are never out of reach. The translucent edge detailing completes a clean and modern finish.

It’s also as quiet as a mouse—literally. Like in the MX Master 3, the MX Master 4 also features quiet click technology that delivers the same button travel with 90% less noise. Gone are the days of audible clicks that could resonate across a shared workspace or recording environment now that they’ve been reduced to a whisper.

Accuracy and precision are a big part of reducing fatigue and repeated clicks. The 8,000 DPI sensor doesn’t lose track on virtually any surface, including glass, making it an ideal complement for varying workstations. The MagSpeed scroll wheel continues to anchor navigation by scrolling up to 1,000 lines per second while stopping precisely on a single pixel. When speed and accuracy truly matter, these are the nuances you can trust. Another added bonus is an improved stain resistance feature.

To squeeze in the new tech and a larger battery, the body gets slightly heavier at 150 grams. The positive trade-off is you get up to 70 days of battery life on a full charge. For a fast top-up in a tight situation, plug in via USB-C quick charge to get up to three hours of use in a single minute of charge, giving you enough time to meet a big deadline without the range anxiety.

Put this mouse to work

The MX Master 4’s capabilities won’t end here. Logitech is offering third-party developers a haptics SDK (software development kit) so they can build custom tactile experiences within their own apps. Logi Options+ will feature more apps to expand the existing lineup and bring Action Ring access to those coming up.
