LG will be showcasing a host of appliance innovations at CES 2023 alongside its audio and video products. This will include new concepts for its refrigerators and laundry care, a new tower steam mop, and the unique PuriCare Aero Furniture.
LG presented many new technologies: find a summary in our article covering the LG World Premiere at CES 2023 press conference.
The idea with the new LG appliances at CES 2023, said LG’s Vice President of Home Appliance Product Manager Brandt Varner during a pre-CES media preview in early December, is to offer products that will appeal to those who are working from home more often. This, he says, affects their routines and focus. Because they are spending more time at home, people are more inclined to invest more in technologies for the home, and are looking for premium solutions.
While these home appliance products are being revealed in advance of the show, they will all be on display to see live and person at CES. Here’s a rundown of the most exciting innovations.
LG InstaView Counter-Depth Max French Door Refrigerator
The new LG InstaView Counter-Depth Max French Door refrigerator is designed to offer more interior space without a larger exterior footprint. The size, says LG, is 26 cubic feet (27 without a water and ice dispenser) versus the traditional 22 cubic feet for a counter-depth fridge. You get the same capacity as you would with a standard depth refrigerator but in a counter-depth configuration. This, in turn, affords a cleaner, more built-in look.
The fridges also feature InstaView with a new door design. It looks like a mirror when you walk up to it, but displays a sleeker, more unobtrusive stainless-steel aesthetic when you aren’t close by and ready to knock twice to see what’s inside. It also includes a full convertible drawer that can go from fridge to extra freezer space when needed. There are adjustable dividers with five temperature settings. LG ThinQ smart technology, meanwhile, allows you to adjust the temperature with your voice. Linear cooling senses temperature fluctuations and adjusts the temperature accordingly. Finally, there’s the Slim SpacePlus ice system that’s positioned in the door so it doesn’t take up any usable space inside.
Expanding from its concept of Craft ice, the ice maker can now make four types of ice: Craft ice, cubed, crushed, and Craft mini.
LG MoodUp Refrigerator
LG’s clear answer to Samsung’s Bespoke refrigerators, the LG MoodUp refrigerator employs a neat system whereby each door panel has its own customizable lighting scheme with different colours and themes to choose from. You don’t need to change out the panels: simply use the ThinQ app to adjust the colours to what you want to see. Maybe it’s glowing red for a dinner party, red and green for the holiday season, light blue on the weekends, team colours during the big game night, and so on. There are 1,800 different colour configurations. With a built-in Bluetooth speaker, you can also set the colours to move in sync with the music. A convenient colour alarm will blink red if the door was left open, a nice, added touch.
LG appliances at CES: the return of WashTower
Improving its WashTower laundry machines, the newer LG WashTower (older model shown above) continues with the single unit design with easy to reach centre controls. The model upgrade introduced at CES 2022 added the dual inverter heat pump. Now boasting a ventless design that prevents lint build-up and dries at a lower temperature (thus using less energy and reducing shrinkage of clothes), it employs AI sensors that can detect the load and soil level and set the right cycle automatically. With a Direct Drive motor and TurboWash function that uses delicate six-motion washing to better protect clothing, it will come in a 24-inch and 27-inch configuration, both offering space-saving designs.
LG CordZero All-in-One Tower with Steam Mop
One of the new LG appliances Varner expressed the most excitement over is the new LG CordZero All-in-One Tower with Steam Mop. It functions as a steam mop with suction that operates on a rechargeable battery. Leverage LG ThinQ smart technology to check the cleaning history, charge status, and access smart diagnosis and filter cleaning information. In wet mop mode, an electric pump’s automatic water supply makes it easy to keep cleaning without having to wet the mop again and again. When mopping in darker rooms, a built-in LED light illuminates the floor.
The compressor technology allows it to pick everything up in one pass, with improved stain removal technology as well. Up to five accessories can be stored on the outside of the unit for easy storage and access.
It remains to be seen how this small appliance will stack up in price. But for larger households or those with intense mopping needs, it might be worth the investment.
LG PuriCare Aero Furniture
LG introduced its PuriCare line of air purifying products last year as part of the new LG appliances line. But the latest versions aim to offer purification of a room of the home without taking up usable space. Instead, it actually creates it. The air purifier features a table on top that can hold items, from a coffee mug (on a coaster, of course) to a book, digital photo frame, TV remotes, and more. Most notably, however, is that it also functions as a wireless charging surface. Plop your phone, true wireless earbuds, or other Qi-enabled device on top and it will gain a charge.
The purifier itself features Nano technology with multi-fan modes and easy-to-reach controls under the side of the table to manage airflow. With LG ThinQ, you can monitor air quality in real time. It also features built-in lighting, perfect for setting a mood.
There are different colours and configurations available with special edition designs coming soon.
LG Styler ShoeCase and ShoeCare
LG already has its Styler wardrobe for clothing, but let’s face it: most of us have a pretty big shoe collection, too! This wardrobe is designed specifically for shoes. It deodorizes and refreshes them after a long day on your feet. It boasts a 2.4-inch touch LCD you can use to select the desired cleaning mode and time. Also with LG ThinQ, you can control it remotely from a smartphone app. There are temperature controls and the unit monitors the humidity inside to ensure it never reaches below 55%. With an integrated fan and heater, add extra cases for additional storage if needed. Offering a gorgeous aesthetic are 15 indirect LED lights that can be displayed in an array of colours, it’s a great way to organize shoes while keeping them fresh and smelling like new every time you slip into them.
The LG Styler ShoeCase might not be something found in every home, but for those who have the space, budget, and desire to use it, including everyone from sneakerheads to those with expensive shoe collections, it’s a pretty neat innovation.
