As someone who loves to cook, I can confidently say that I get excited at the thought of buying accessories for my kitchen. I’m always on the hunt for cool gadgets that I can use with small appliances, like my mixer and Instant Pot, or simply items that make cooking and baking easier, and that look great when set out on the table. When it comes to stocking stuffers, then, there are lots of great gifts for the heroes of the home, that family member who loves to cook, bake, and spend tons of time in the kitchen.
A Knife Set
Who couldn’t use more knives? For someone who is just getting into cooking, or lives in a small apartment or condo, a set like the Cuisinart Advantage 12-Piece Knife Set, which I reviewed last year, would make be great as stocking stuffers. They come in bright colours with matching guards. This makes it easy to find the one you want in a drawer, whether it’s for slicing freshly-baked bread, chopping fruits and vegetables, or cutting into a delicious holiday ham.
One Christmas, I used a gift card to buy the pasta roller attachments for my KitchenAid mixer. The following Christmas, I received another gift card that I, once again, happily used to expand my selection of small kitchen tools and bought a KitchenAid 2-Speed Immersion Blender. It has been super-handy for mixing smoothies, blending protein powder into drinks, and mixing up soups and pasta sauces. It comes with a handy blending jar that is perfectly sized for making a couple smoothies, and has a cover so you can store leftovers in the fridge. It can easily crush through ice and frozen fruits, but the best part is clean-up: give the top portion with the blades a quick rinse in the sink when you’re done, and pop the jar into the top rack of the dishwasher. Next on my list, by the way, is the Food Grinder attachment, and I also have my eye on the Pasta Press attachment.
For over a year now, I’ve been on a sparkling water kick, going through bottles of San Pellegrino and La Croix like nobody’s business. Ironically, I don’t drink soda, yet I think I want a SodaStream, for the sole purpose of making my own fizzy water, both flavoured and plain. OK, so it might not technically fit in a stocking, but the machine is ultra-slim, and can make sparkling water in 30 seconds. So I’ll find a way to make it fit! Not only can using one result in money savings versus buying bottled or canned sparkling water, but you also help the environment since the reusable CO2 cylinder can last for up to three years.
Salt and pepper is a must for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, to sprinkle one or the other (or both) on everything from eggs to salad and pasta. A nice gift would be a stylish set that’s perfect to put on the table for entertaining. Or consider a fancier peppermill like the Peugeot Chatel Peppermill that will look great at the centre of the dining room table. It comes in an attractive walnut finish that will match any kitchen or dining decor, and can be turned clockwise for a finer grind, or counter-clockwise for coarser.
While I’m cooking, especially for big gatherings, I love to pour myself a nice glass of red wine to sip throughout the process. A decanter is a great gift to let the wine breathe so it’s in its perfect state for consumption once guests arrive. Along with other barware and wine accessories, a decanter is a great stocking stuffer gift. And there are plenty to choose from, including glass, crystal, aerating models, and ones that come with glasses, too.
I have developed an addiction for buying accessories for my Instant Pot, like egg bite molds and mini cake pans. But there are also cool accessories you can use on a stove, like the neat Joseph Joseph Lotus Plus Steamer Basket. Finished in green, it is made of silicone and plastic that expands to adjust to the size of your saucepan, so you can steam healthy vegetables quickly and easily. I use a steamer basket similar to this one in my Instant Pot as well to accommodate things like broccoli, perogies, and other small foods. (If you do this, make sure the basket you buy is safe for use at the Instant Pot’s high pressure temperatures.)
In addition to small and large appliances making great gifts, there are lots of small kitchen gadgets, accessories, and other kitchen-related items that would make perfect stocking stuffers for the hero of the home on your list. If you know what the person particularly loves to do, like bake cakes and cookies, try out fun appetizers, or experiment with an Instant Pot, for example, you can find related stocking stuffers that will enhance that experience for them, or help them do more.
