The Insignia 3-in-1 portable air conditioner is portable with easy-to-roll wheels, but it’s much more than a quick way to cool your room. The model I tested was 7000 BTU DOE/12,000 BTU ASHRAE so it can cool a room up to 300 square feet, but this 3-in-1 device is also a dehumidifier and a high-powered fan. After testing it out I love how this air conditioner is easy to install, includes a remote, and has wheels so it’s easy to move around my house. I just installed this air conditioner in my living room. Here’s what I thought of how easy it is to install and how well it works.
Features on Insignia 3-in-1 Portable Air Conditioner
The Insignia 3-in-1 Portable Air Conditioner (Model NS-AC12PWH5-C) is small for a portable air conditioner, but I really love that. Portable air conditioners are usually big and bulky but the Insignia 3-in-1 Portable Air Conditioner measures in cm 70.2 H x 32.5 W x 29.5 D (27.64 H x 12.8 W x 11.61 D inches). It weighs 20.5 kg (45.19 lbs).

Setting up Insignia Portable Air Conditioner
Everything you need to set up the Insignia Portable Air Conditioner is included in the box. They have two brackets to install in your window, and you aren’t limited to installing the air conditioner in one type of window either. You can install this air conditioner in both vertical and horizontal windows. The included brackets are plastic and they adjust quite easily. There is also a strip of weatherproofing foam you can line the brackets with to ensure you seal the window.
I found it quite easy to set this portable air conditioner up. Once you decide what window you’d like to place it in you can choose a suitable bracket size. There are a few included for different sizes of windows. My windows are all horizontal so I used the long bracket. The hose connector snaps easily in place, and then all you have to do is connect the hose and turn the machine on. I like the bracket design. Once you add the foam along the edges any hot air is prevented from coming in the house.
Cooling capacity of Insignia 3-in-1 Portable Air Conditioner
The Insignia 3-in-1 portable air conditioner I was sent to test has a cooling capacity of up to 300 square feet. The room I placed it in has high ceilings, but this 7000 BTU DOE/12,000 BTU ASHRAE machine was more than enough for my room. You can read more about DOE and ASHRAE BTU in this article.
This portable air conditioner can reach temps as low as 16 degrees Celsius. That’s pretty chilly in a small room. I could feel the cold air from a few feet away, and a few times it got so chilly I adjusted the temperature so it wasn’t as cold. I think it’s the perfect air conditioner for a bedroom, especially if you like it to be cold when you sleep.
There are a few sizes available in this air conditioner, so you can upsize or downsize depending on how big your room is. You can choose 8000 BTU, 10,000 BTU, and 14,000 BTU as well. 8000 BTU will cool a room up to 150 square feet, 10,000 BTU will cool a room up to 250 square feet, and 14,000 BTU will cool a room up to 400 square feet.
It’s very quiet too. I had the cooling set for the lowest setting and the fan set to high. You can hear it as it’s running, but it wasn’t overwhelmingly loud.
Timer and remote control
I love how this air conditioner has a remote control. It makes it very easy to adjust the temperature from across the room. The remote has several functions including switching modes from cool to dry to fan. You can also set the fan speed from high to low and turn it on sleep mode. Sleep mode turns the LCD screen down so it won’t glow brightly in a dark room.
You can adjust the settings on the LCD on the top of the air conditioner. Compared to other portable air conditioners I’ve used, I really like the placement of the LCD on the top of the unit. It’s easy to tap the menu options and you don’t have to see the screen all the time. You can also set the air conditioner on a timer so it will run for up to 24 hours before turning off. That’s useful in the middle of the night if you don’t want the room to get cooler and cooler.
Wheels make it even more portable
After using the Insignia Portable Air Conditioner I feel like it’s the easiest air conditioner I’ve ever installed and used. I’ve never had a portable air conditioner with wheels, but it’s a must-have feature when you want to move the air conditioner around your home. I don’t have thick carpets in my house so I could quickly roll it from my bedroom to my living room to keep us cool during the day and at night. The included brackets are so easy to install you can set it up in a new window in under 5 minutes.
Should you choose the Insignia 3-in-1 portable air conditioner?
The Insignia 3-in-1 portable air conditioner is a great size, works very well to cool your room, and has multiple functions you can use when you’re not using it as an air conditioner. I used it as a fan when it wasn’t hot out and it sent a nice stream of air across the room. I didn’t test out the dehumidifier function, but it’s a nice option to have if you’d like to remove humidity in your home’s air.
My favourite features of this air conditioner are the remote control and the wheels. The portability of this air conditioner makes it very easy to place in one room during the day and then move it to another room at night. It’s fairly light too, weighing almost 50 lbs, so if you needed to pick it up you can easily do so.
I think the Insignia 3-in-1 portable air conditioner is a great choice to cool your home during the hot summer months. It’s available for different room sizes right now at Best Buy.
