New “Card Pack” Feature

You’ll notice the pre-order bonus includes a “Card Pack”, which is a brand new feature introduced in Rise of the Tomb Raider. As you play the game, you’ll earn cards after completing specific objectives, or you may uncover some while searching hidden areas in the environment. You can then activate these cards in extra game modes, where they become game modifiers to customize the experience in a variety of ways.

Effects of activating the cards range from increasing the game difficulty, to giving you special advantages over your enemies. Some cards will be immediately consumed when used, while others can be triggered more than once. As noted above, pre-ordering Rise of the Tomb Raider will get you the rare “Master Hunter” foil card, which will allow you to inflict more damage on animals, and doubles your hunting resource collection. There will be hundreds of ways to customize your game experience in all, and these modifiers can help you rank higher in the global leaderboards.

Enter the deadly, awe-inspiring tombs

While at E3 2015, I had the opportunity to check out Rise of the Tomb Raider, and walked away very impressed with what I was shown. The developers at Crystal Dynamics are going back to Lara’s roots as an explorer of ancient tombs littered with deadly traps and intricate puzzles. You’ll need to gather you cunning and wits to overcome the many challenges that await you, and uncover the secrets around ever corner.

Expect top-notch graphics as well, with the most immersive, realistic environments ever seen in a Tomb Raider game. Utilizing the full power of the Xbox One hardware, you’ll travel to exotic locations in Siberia and Syria, all presented in breathtaking detail. You can see some of the gorgeous action in the trailer above.

While the pre-order bonus for Rise of the Tomb Raider only applies to the Xbox One version of the game, keep in mind that the game is also releasing on Xbox 360 this fall. The game is also coming out for PC and PlayStation, but in 2016.

  1. I pre-ordered Rise of the Tomb Raider online way back in June. Do I still qualify to receive the Sparrowhawk pack?
