Attention Etrian cartographers! The next entry in this extremely popular role-playing game series is nearly here. Coming early August, Etrian Odyssey 2 Untold: The Fafnir Knight gives you essentially two games in one:
(1) Story Mode: A full remake of Etrian Odyssey 2: Heroes of Lagaard with a fixed party of adventurers, voiced dialogue, animated cutscenes, and an orchestrated soundtrack; as well as
(2) Classic Mode: An upgraded version of the original Etrian Odyssey 2: Heroes of Lagaard, with new dungeons layouts, user-interface and system improvements based on fan feedback, and an enhanced Grimoire skills system.
I’ve been enjoying this series immensely, going all the way back to the original Etrian Odyssey on Nintendo DS back in 2007, so I can’t wait to play this latest entry!
By pre-ordering Etrian Odyssey 2 Untold: The Fafnir Knight now, you’ll get the exclusive “Launch Edition” version, which comes with these exciting extras:
- Etrian Odyssey 2 Untold The Fafnir Knight game in a Collectible Outer Box
- The Fafnir Knight Rough Sketch Soundtrack: a limited edition Soundtrack CD of early versions of the game’s music by series composer, Yuzo Koshiro.
- Official Staff Book: a 22-page booklet taking you behind the scenes of the game’s development, including early drafts of character concepts, introductions to the characters, with both explanations of their individual back stories as well as developer insight to the character creation process. The Official Staff Book also includes some QR codes that unlock beginner-friendly Grimoire stones and items!

Hatsune Miku: Project Mirai DX
Release date: September 8, 2015
Platform: Nintendo 3DS
Developer: SEGA
Publisher: SEGA
Genre: Rhythm
ESRB Rating: E (For All)
I’m not afraid to admit it: I’m a huge Hatsune Miku fan! Last year when I went to Tokyo, I checked out the Hatsune Miku Magical Mirai concert (“Mirai” means “future” in English) and I can honestly say there’s nothing quite like this virtual pop star diva anywhere else in the whole world. Miku and her friends sing, dance, and put on amazing show!
Now, for the first time ever in North America, you can experience the fun of Hatsune Miku on your Nintendo 3DS! Hatsune Miku: Project Mirai DX is a rhythm music game featuring 48 full-length versions of fan-favourite songs (79 if you count the additional voice tracks), with multiple game modes and play styles available. This is a spin-off of the Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA series, which I really enjoyed on PlayStation consoles!
The music is just one aspect of this game however, as you can also have a blast customizing virtual apartments for your favourite Miku characters, including decorations, seasonal items, and a lot more. There’s also the Mirai Theatre, where you can add scrolling commentary to your favourite videos, the Dance Studio, a place to create unique dance routines, and My Tune, for composers that want to arrange their own songs.
If you pre-order Hatsune Miku: Project Mirai DX, you’ll get the Launch Edition that includes these great bonuses:
- Hatsune Miku: Project Mirai DX game with premium Collectible outer box packaging
- 19 Double-side augmented reality (AR) cards: place under you Nintendo 3DS camera to bring Hatsune Miku into your world in stunning 3D
- Hatsune Miku Wallet Chain: designed after Hatsune Miku’s iconic belt—a simple and stylish way for you to show off your love for Miku

Rodea the Sky Soldier
Release date: November 10, 2015
Platforms: Nintendo 3DS, Wii U
Developer: Kadokawa Games / Prope
Publisher: NIS America
Genre: Adventure Platformer
ESRB Rating: E10+ (Ages 10 and up)
Having played amazing Japanese video games like Nights: Into Dreams, Gravity Rush, and Kingdom Hearts, I always get excited when I hear about a new Japanese-developed game that focuses on character-based flying. So when I heard about Rodea the Sky Soldier—where you play as a powerful, flying robot soldier with a cool anime look (seen to the left)—my anticipation couldn’t be higher!
Rodea the Sky Soldier takes place in the kingdom of Garuda, an archipelago of tiny islands that float in the sky. As Rodea, you traverse the sky to solve puzzles, destroy enemies, and discover new secrets. Some of Rodea’s aerial abilities include curving around objects, ascending and descending, hovering in place, and performing high-speed boost attacks. It sounds really fun!
While exploring each level, be on the look out for Gears and Gravitons, as these special items can be used to upgrade Rodea’s abilities and weapons. You’ll need the extra firepower too, since Rodea will encounter colossal enemies called “automatons” from the invading Naga army. There are plenty of reasons to go back and replay levels too, like discovering more hidden items, uncovering hidden objectives, and beating your own speed and score records.
There are two versions of Rodea the Sky Soldier available this fall, one for Wii U and another for Nintendo 3DS, and each one comes with their own unique pre-order bonus. They are:
Wii U
- Pre-order Rodea the Sky Soldier for Wii U and also receive the original, unreleased Wii version of the game (exclusive to the retail version of the game!). Competitive multiplayer is exclusive to the Wii version, so you’ll be able to challenge your friends for air supremacy!

- You’ll also get a never-before-released Original Soundtrack CD, containing 10 songs that will instantly transport you back to the world of Garuda with every listen!
