EA Sports NHL 24

Lace up your skates and get ready to hit the ice with EA Sports NHL 24 from EA Vancouver. The 2023-2024 NHL season is just around the corner and this year’s edition of Canada’s favourite sports videogame features all-new gameplay that brings the on-ice action to life. Whereas NHL 23 featured two cover athletes, this year Cale Makar from the Stanley Cup Champion Colorado Avalanche and Norris winner is the official NHL 24 cover athlete.

Let’s take a look at some of the new features and gameplay we can look forward to October 6, 2023 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PS4 and Xbox One when NHL 24 launches.

All-new Exhaust Engine adds even more excitement to the game

EA Vancouver has done a complete revamp of the NHL 24 gameplay experience and this year’s game features attack zone time and offensive events, which will add a whole new dynamic layer of authenticity to the game. Keeping the authentic on-ice experience incorporated into NHL 24, EA Vancouver have added a sustained pressure and goalie fatigue system in this year’s game.

The sustained pressure system perk is triggered when you’ve got the pressure on and in the attack zone. The perk, for a limited amount of time, will lower your opponent’s attributes, which will give you more space for setting up plays and moving around the ice.

On the other hand, the goalies now have a fatigue system that wears them down as their opponents sustain pressure on them. Just like in real-life, a goalies ability to react to shots and situations is affected.

More accessible and intuitive human goalie controls

Human goalie controls in NHL 24 have been updated to feel more intuitive and, most importantly, be more accessible. The Tethered Control System allows you to move side to side for making saves. And, then it automatically returns your goalie to the middle position. Theoretically, this should allow you to concentrate more on the game. And, less on trying to get your goalie back into position.

Goalies can now earn a bonus on their save attempts by correctly guessing the location of the oncoming shot. However, if you make the wrong guess, you’ll increase the chance of the shot going in.

Vision passing system

New for NHL 24, EA Vancouver has stepped up the game with the Vision Passing System. A new visual iconography above pass receivers and a re-mapping of face buttons to your teammates gives you a more accurate pass capability for crisp stick to stick passes. Moreover, with NHL 24’s One Touch Passing, you can pass the puck across the ice and take advantage of important chances by lightly tapping the pass button while the puck is moving.

Overhauled physics and animations

Each year EA Sports NHL games offer an experience that is more like their real-life counterpart. And, NHL 24 doesn’t look like it will disappoint. Physics and animations have been overhauled that provide a more realistic experience like never before. New and fresh animations are set to bring NHL 24 to life. And, more forceful body checks will create more chances for you to gain possession from your opponents.

Though, if your attempt misses, you’ll end up out of position. This introduces a fresh element of risk and reward to the gameplay that I am looking forward to. Moreover, if you enjoy playing aggressively, you now have the ability to shatter the glass and send your opponent into their bench. How cool!
