Battlefield V goes back to its roots
Today, developer DICE officially revealed Battlefield V and many details surrounding this highly anticipated title. We now know that Battlefield V is scheduled to release on October 19th, 2018 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
In Battlefield V, we head back to World War II to experience the untold stories and unexpected battles through the eyes of men and women who changed history in the world’s greatest war. Unlike another recently announced title, Battlefield V will feature a campaign mode, new and signature multiplayer modes, the return of co-op mode, and new post-launch content called Tides of War.

Enhanced gameplay for the most immersive experience yet
Battlefield V will feature some significant gameplay enhancements that will make the action even more intense and realistic than previous games in the series. First of all, there is a new animation system where the environment around you will react and have an impact on you. Things like running through water, slipping on rocks, and walking through tall grass will now effect you just as if it would in real life.
Additionally, destruction to buildings is more realistic. Individual parts of buildings can now be damaged and the structural integrity of a building can degrade over time. Moreover, you can repair and fortify damaged buildings! How cool is that?!
Weapons now act more realistically making recoil more predictable. While prone or on your back, you can now aim a full 360 degrees and you can fling yourself back and to the side while firing. If you or a fellow teammate gets hurt in battle, it now takes time and careful consideration to heal.
A single-player campaign mode
Battlefield 1’s War Stories, single-player campaign mode makes its return for Battlefield V. These are short narratives that take place at different times during the war. Each with different people and are inspired by real events.
Not a whole lot of information was released about War Stories. However, DICE did tease the tale of a young Norwegian Resistance fighter seeking to save her family. I thoroughly enjoyed Battlefield 1’s War Stories, so I am really excited to see what is in store for us in Battlefield V.
Multiplayer mayhem with Grand Operations
Long time favourite multiplayer modes such as Domination, Conquest and Team Deathmatch return. What I am most excited about is a new mode called Grand Operations. This mode combines several modes into a multiplayer campaign, which can take up to an hour for you and your team to play through.
Grand Operations scenarios are split into four days. Each day is a different mode that the previous battle will have an effect on. One day your team can be tasked with parachuting out of planes and destroying your enemy’s artillery. While the next day your invading army advances on the enemy and their success depends on how well you destroying their artillery.
Co-op modes makes its return to the Battlefield franchise
Co-op play makes its return to the Battlefield series with a new co-op mode called Combined Arms. You are put in squads with three other players to complete missions together. It’s a great way to help those new to the multiplayer experience ease into it.
At this point in time, DICE hasn’t fully revealed everything about this mode. However, they did mention one thing that has me on the edge of my seat with excitement—a Mission Generator. It supposedly gives you new objectives and narrative as you play.
DICE announced that Battlefield V will not have a premium pass. Instead, the developer has decided to adopt a live game model with seasons of content. This means that all major game updates will be free! Tides of War will show the conflict across the world, which will follow the progress of World War II with nearly real time updates.
The first chapter of Tides of War is schedule to start about a month after launch. I can hardly wait to see the new weapons, maps, and customization options that DICE comes up with for us to play with.
