When buying a new TV, look for new tech that will last a very long time like that found in Sony’s latest selection of televisions. Most people don’t purchase televisions frequently. We want the few that we do buy, to last a long time. As such, it’s best to choose from a list of the largest most up to date televisions available within your price range. How long should a new TV last
My living room television is very old. I bought it about twenty years ago. I found a good deal at that time on a very thin, forty inch, which at the time seemed huge, 1080p resolution Sony TV and have loved the image quality and performance ever since. In fact, the image seems just as good as it was when I bought it. I paid as much as I could afford on a TV at the time and feel like I got excellent value for my money.
I think that is the real barometer for how long a TV should last. I bought a 4k TV for my mother-in-law about 6 years ago and it stopped working after about 3.5 years. And it was could not be repaired! Obviously that set was a disappointment. It wasn’t a Sony, but I did replace her broken set with a Sony. The best part about this story was that I bought four-year Geek Squad protection, and it returned the full value of the set that broke, which I applied to the new Sony TV.
How to choose the best TV for your needs
Earlier this week, a friend asked for my help selecting a new TV for his home. I brought up the Best Buy online selection of televisions and explained the key factors he should consider, asking a few important questions. We narrowed down his options to a list of about a half-dozen candidates. Importantly, we started with brand: he said that he has always bought Sony and is most familiar with that brand. Apple users tend to stick with apple, Microsoft fans tend to stick with windows tech, Samsung fans stick with Samsung (admittedly I fall into this category for phone tech!) and Sony fans stick with Sony.
The second consideration I brought up with him was TV size. He explained that he measured the space on his wall where the TV will be mounted and didn’t think he had ceiling height for anything bigger than about 75 inches. The considerations we brought up then were between 72 and 78 inches: I suggested he get the biggest set he can accommodate for maximum enjoyment as long as he owns the TV.
Lastly, we talked about the newest technology and screen resolution. I explained that the newest tech is Mini-LED which is credited with producing an image that rivals an OLED screen. Quality of image and longevity
The 2 most important things for me are size and reviews. The Mini-LED TV is appealing and we hope to walk mount our tv at some point. Thank you for the informative article.
The two most important features are screen resolution and quality of blacks. I think the ability for a TV to display black is often overlooked, but I once bought a TV with terrible black clarity, and had to get rid of it because it was impossible to watch anything that took place at night or in the dark (as a big horror movie fan this was a dealbreaker).
Reputation of the company – do the TV’s last long and if there is trouble, will the company stand behind it and fix it? That is number one.
Second is clarity of the images. If you can’t see it well, might as well not see it at all.

Size and screen resolution are important to me.
I look for Netflix and prime video smart capabilities. We have an old tv so I’d want that.
Resolution & Size. Hard to leave it out price, but “you get what you pay for” and that’s baked into the other features.
Picture quality that lasts and value for money
While Jason did an excellent job of demystifying resolution acronyms for me, my two criteria for a new television would have to be:
1. Does it turn on? If it does, it is a big step up from my current model.
2. Since Sony has not yet developed Popcorn Technology (PT in electronics speak), Remote-Findability becomes the obvious second requirement.
Price and screen resolution are two important considerations.
The best features would be picture quality and dependability. Disposible society is getting old.

Picture quality and size are important features
I appreciate the mini LED and the fact that it is Sony. I trust Sony.
2 important features are the size of the tv(thickness and screen size) and Sound Quality.
The top 2 features for when buying a TV for me are picture quality and maker’s reputation – Sony is well known for quality products and stands behind them. The one aspect that I really like in this model is the XR Motion Clarity technology to reduce blurring in fast-action games, movies, and sports – with a TV this size, this is critical to feel you are in the action!
Size and picture quality.
Longevity of tv and and able to hook up to stream. Colour is gorgeous also!
