You can choose to mount it to create a designated theatre room, or you can keep it mobile so one day it’s in the living room for a movie, the next day in the basement for gaming, or in the kids room for a sleep over. How amazing is the BenQ 4K projector

This is probably something that many people are wondering. We asked Erin Lawrence, Editor of Home Theatre on the blog and also a veteran of television news with CTV in Calgary, to try this projector and give us her honest opinion.

In her written review and video review, Erin highly endorsed this projector. Here are some of the highlights of her review:

  1. The picture was amazing, despite her not having a white wall or a projection screen as a backdrop. (She actually projected it onto a blue wall and still she thought the image was great!)
  2. The image was bright, clear and showed accurate, crisp colours, even when the room was brightly lit.
  3. The fan (something that used to drive me crazy on an older projector I once had in my home) was barely noticeable and did not take away from the enjoyment of using this projector.

She also pointed out some of the things that people will consider adding to their home to make the experience even better.

How would you improve your own home theatre experience

Okay so let’s just suppose that you were the winner of this contest. Picture that! Where will you place it in your home? Would you mount it on the ceiling, or keep it mobile so you can move it from room to room?

Importantly, what technology would you need to make the home theatre experience truly complete? I’m not talking about a popcorn maker: that’s a given! Would you be looking to add a projection screen, or would you just choose a white wall (or paint a wall white for this best results). Would you look at getting a surround sound or ATMOS system ?Erin said that the sound from the projector is okay, but your home theatre would be much better with great home theatre audio. Would you add a 4K blu-ray player and start collecting a library of 4K movies to show on this 4K projector?

There are so many possibilities, and I didn’t even talk about home theatre seating. What would you consider adding to your home if you win this amazing projector?

  3. I would add the Denon AVR-S730H 7.2 Channel 4K Ultra HD Atmos Network AV Receiver. Wow, what a home theatre system that would be.

  4. What an awesome projector – would love to bring one home and make my own family home theatre.
    Would add a projection screen, some surround sound speakers, a comfy sofa and of course popcorn!!!

  5. I’m going to need a projection screen, and some great sound. A commercial size popcorn machine for the half dozen people sitting around in the luxury lazy boy style chairs waiting for the movie to begin. There’s a big possibility that there’s going to have to be a beer fridge to quench the popcorn salt feeling. 🙂 One last thing….just so we don’t get any of the ‘sleeper’ type movie watchers, I’m going to have to put some vibrating engines in the chairs, and maybe scent machines. Just pure luxury.

  8. I have an older 1080 projector that is on its 3rd color wheel. Just got 4k boxes from my tv provider so need a 4k projector to take advantage. Also, im an Oilers fan. Its been a long season already, so maybe if I can see the puck better so might they. Crossing my fingers….

  10. I would definitely revamp our living room and paint our biggest wall white and possibly upgrade our sound system too!

  11. I would love to be able to make a place for me and my family to spend time. We love to watch movies and this projecter would enhance the time we spend together. It also would be great for events when we have friends over to play games,watch movies play music etc… We would try and add a theater or an area to watch movies and music and a place to spend time with friends and family.

  13. The projector would be a great kickstart to the unfinished basement. I would have to get a soundbar and a really comfy lounger to hang out with my young son and watch some Disney movies with him!

  24. I recently built a nice huge family room in our basement. I’ve pre-wired the walls and ceilings for a “future” sound system. We have a great new, very comfortable sectional. We have a nice 8 x 12 wall that’s screaming for a screen. A BENQ projector will certain help kick start that part of my vision

  25. I would need a retractable 16:9 screen. A kick ass sound system with subwoofers and of course a kettle popcorn machine to dispense popcorn

  26. If I won this projector I would like to add a larger library of blue ray movies that I can enjoy on a large projection screen with a great sound system.

  27. I would keep it mobile so when the grandkids visited, I could show them movies outside at night. But for my own personal viewing, I would add surround sound and a couple of recliners!

  30. I’d need the Thonet and Vander Stereo Speakers from the last contest to hook up to my blu-ray. I probably should get micro-PC so I can watch all those home movies on the big screen.

  40. if i won this fantastic item, i would put it in my media room and mount it on the ceiling. I would add a surround sound system for that true movie theater effect and i would invite my family and friends to come over and enjoy the home movie experience in a big way! ;))

  43. Instead of my sound bar I’d go full 7.1 surround with Dolby Atmos. 4K projection at 150″ screen size. I’d paint my wall the perfect white and I’d make sure the natural light washed away from the beautiful cinema. I’d get a large recliner and rejoice!

  44. Surround sound, blue ray player, x-box 1, ps4 and theater chairs would be my additions to have the ultimate theater/game room experience!

  45. I would want to add a projection screen, a great sound system, and a couple of large recliners so my wife and I could really enjoy such a great win!
