You can choose to mount it to create a designated theatre room, or you can keep it mobile so one day it’s in the living room for a movie, the next day in the basement for gaming, or in the kids room for a sleep over. How amazing is the BenQ 4K projector

This is probably something that many people are wondering. We asked Erin Lawrence, Editor of Home Theatre on the blog and also a veteran of television news with CTV in Calgary, to try this projector and give us her honest opinion.

In her written review and video review, Erin highly endorsed this projector. Here are some of the highlights of her review:

  1. The picture was amazing, despite her not having a white wall or a projection screen as a backdrop. (She actually projected it onto a blue wall and still she thought the image was great!)
  2. The image was bright, clear and showed accurate, crisp colours, even when the room was brightly lit.
  3. The fan (something that used to drive me crazy on an older projector I once had in my home) was barely noticeable and did not take away from the enjoyment of using this projector.

She also pointed out some of the things that people will consider adding to their home to make the experience even better.

How would you improve your own home theatre experience

Okay so let’s just suppose that you were the winner of this contest. Picture that! Where will you place it in your home? Would you mount it on the ceiling, or keep it mobile so you can move it from room to room?

Importantly, what technology would you need to make the home theatre experience truly complete? I’m not talking about a popcorn maker: that’s a given! Would you be looking to add a projection screen, or would you just choose a white wall (or paint a wall white for this best results). Would you look at getting a surround sound or ATMOS system ?Erin said that the sound from the projector is okay, but your home theatre would be much better with great home theatre audio. Would you add a 4K blu-ray player and start collecting a library of 4K movies to show on this 4K projector?

There are so many possibilities, and I didn’t even talk about home theatre seating. What would you consider adding to your home if you win this amazing projector?

  2. I’ll basically add everything! Projection screen, sorround sound, 4k dvd player and movies and most importantly is the reclineable theatre seating!

  6. I would love to create a 4K Theatre in my home; it would need a huge Projection Screen, a 4K Blu-Ray Player and a suped-up Surround Sound System. I would also love to add a sectional sofa, comfy pillows and blankets. Thanks!

  7. PS4 + this projector = amazing experience! Would be great for casual games when friends are over, and excellent for watching some Netflix!

    Also, Hue Lights wouldn’t hurt 😛

  10. If I won this projector I would figure out how to get tv to play thru it. Then I could get rid of my tube tv. Then it would be a slow process to update my laptop and buy a nice sound system. Baby steps 🙂 Thank you.

  11. I would get some Atmos speakers, another row of seats, and another subwoofer. I also would use the projectors on my outdoor movie screen for my weekend potluck movies nights with friends and family

  12. I would project onto my current white wall in the living room and add a good surround sound system plus plush theatre seating. To make it cozy and enhance the experience, I would get soft throws and pillows. Lastly, it wouldn’t be a complete experience without a bar plus mini fridge for all the snacks and drinks.

  13. We would need to paint a white wall, new surround sound system, a new PlayStation (to play blue rays on), all our favourite movies, and a big comfy couch to relax on

  14. I would definitely add an ice cream maker or a chocolate fountain just for kicks! For home theater experience, I would add a giant projector screen in front of our surround system that we would finally put to use!

  15. I’d set up a movie room in the basement. there’s plenty of space to add lots of comfy seating for friends (or for the kids and their friends)

  19. Winning this projector would actually complete the 4k home theatre experience in our home. Why you ask? Because the screen would be too big for my boyfriend to rub his butt on the tv when the opposing football team comes onto the field and I would actually get to see the game!

  25. Definitely upgrade to a PS4 Pro and finally set up some sound system to thoroughly impress the neighbors

    • I would purchase a projection screen to watch the amazing picture from this projector. Upgrade my surround sound and buy a nice recliner.

  39. I would add wifi smart light switches, a 4K Blu ray , an electric projection screen, a sound sytem and a Harmony remote control and its hub. To complete my setup I would add a Google Home mini and I would say “Hey Google, movie time”

  41. I would get leather bench seating, LED strip lighting and mount the projector to the ceiling. Would make a very nice home theatre setup in my rec room!

  42. I’d leave it mobile (not attached to the ceiling, so that i could move it around. Would love it in my living room for the most part, just against a white wall… but would tuck it into my bedroom when hibernating on a cold winters day. I’ve already been eyeing the Bose Acoustimass 6 Series V 5.1 Channel Home Theater Speaker System (which is on sale now!! EEK) and this would be a definite must to have the whole experience. Movies of course… time to start rebuilding the collection with some classics!

  43. I’d be content with a surround sound setup to pair with the projector. Since 4k content can be streamed, I may have to upgrade the network & internet too!
