Many people find home audio a shopping challenge and may avoid even learning about great receivers like the amazing, versatile options from Pioneer. Yes, the easiest home theatre audio solution is to get nothing and let the TV do the audio heavy lifting. However, televisions will never produce the kind of immersive audio you get from a great stereo system. And that stereo system begins with a premium receiver like the Pioneer VSX-935 8K 7.2 channel receiver we are giving away in this contest.
How to get the best home theatre audio
Sometimes I watch TV and get the audio from the television speakers. This is fine for me when I’m watching the news or a weather report. If I’m watching something meaningful, I’ll use a sound bar connected via an HDMI cable. I use that same sound bar to stream Spotify sometimes if I want background music in the living room.
However, when I’m watching something meaningful to me I send the audio to my receiver so I get an audio experience comparable to the great visuals and great storytelling I’m enjoying. It’s all part of the same package for me. Sometimes, I’ll rewatch something that I streamed on my phone because I know it will be so much better on the big screen with the big sound I can only get from my stereo. For example, the opening music of Star Trek: Discovery has amazing depth and gives me chills—when I listen on my stereo! Even Tig Notaro’s acerbic tone as my favourite character in this series, Jett Reno, is more biting through a proper home theatre system.
How do I know what to look for in a home theatre receiver
Like many of the Canadians reading this article, I am not a home theatre receiver expert. I’m not. That’s why I hire people who know more than I do for many of the projects I assign for the Best Buy blog. The prize we are giving away is a great example: I sent it to Jason Gorber, who knows a lot more about audio than I do. So if you want to learn more about this prize, you should read his informative review.
Similarly, the many comprehensive buying guides you find on the blog were not written by me. In fact, they are not the work of just one person. I assign the project to a knowledgable writer on the team, then the draft goes to other experts for that product category to be revised and molded to, hopefully, be maximally useful as a tool that helps shoppers find the right products for their home. Check out the Receiver Buying Guide on the blog and you will have a better idea of what a receiver can do for your home audio needs.
How to enter
Entering this contest is easy and you can enter in three (3) different ways.
- In a comment below, tell us what you usually use for home theatre audio and how this receiver might improve your home listening experience.
- In a comment below the Receiver Buying Guide, tell us one aspect about receivers that you learned from that article.
- For up to two (2) additional entries, create a public post on a social media channel (one entry per channel!) sharing with your friends and followers one reason why you want to win this Pioneer receiver; include the hashtag #BestBuyPioneerContest, so we can find your post, and include one of the pictures showing on this article. Then return here and tell us in a comment below on which channel you posted it and the name of your channel (since many people use pseudonyms) so that we can check and verify your entry. You can use any social media channel (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, etc.), but the post must be public so we can verify it is there.
What can you win
At the end of this contest, we will randomly select one (1) winner from all eligible entries to receive the Pioneer VSX-935 8K 7.2 channel receiver sample that was tested for the blog review article.
This contest runs from July 7th to July 21st.
Remember, you can enter in three different ways as discussed above. You should also discuss the information in this contest with your family and friends so they too can enter this contest for a chance to win a premium Pioneer receiver.

I learned that Receivers are literally the brain of a home theatre system.
I have my receiver hooked up to my home audio system
The Pioneer would be an upgrade with better features including better sound
I have my home receiver hooked up to my television, CD player, DVD player and Turntable
The Pioneer would be an upgrade with better features
I usually just use the TV’s audio, but this would be a major upgrade!
I don’t have a home theatre so this would make watching movies and gaming such a better experience for my family.
I have an older 5.1 set up that really needs to be upgraded as it isn’t 4k, this receiver would solve that!
playing games/watching movies – pass thru 4k/8k video signal and better sound
Movies sound better in 8k @theC1eaner https://twitter.com/TheC1eaner/status/1545395651596394496?s=20&t=WGlaa-YjXAe6MOeXY5od6g
Don’t have an existing home theater, would be a good start.
Current set up is a mutt set up. I have an Onkyo 5.1 receiver with an old set of spl monitor front speakers, a Polk Audio center channel, KEF rear speakers and a Velodyne 10″ subwoofer. Watching movies with amazing audio experience is something I have always enjoyed, it makes the movie so immersive.
Usually just use the TV built in Audio Controls but this Pioneer VSX-935 7.2 Channel 8K Ultra HD Network AV Receiver would let me set up for my own Personal Audio Preferences.
I don’t have a home theater setup. That would be a good start.
I just use the built in TV speakers. Receiver would improve my watching experience.
If I win this I can finally watch my movies in glorious surround sound again. I recently purchased a 4k tv but my act is took old and doesn’t even support HDMI
I don’t have a home theatre. This receiver would help kickstart my home theatre

I,ve learned on Receiver Buying Guide, what are channels and we are aiming at a 5 channel receiver
i use no audio system and rely only on the Tv . we really need to understand the audio systems and get one
I use a very old bookshelf stereo, I have the o/p audio from my SAT rx plugged into the aux, everything else I use the built in TV speakers as it’s too much trouble to have to pull the entertainment unit out to try to plug the DVD audio in there to watch a movie. Same for my turntable, so it’s been awhile since I played any of my records. This would be a massive improvement and bring movies my old LP’s back to life

Our TV speakers are all that we use.
I just use the TV audio. I haven’t ever owned a sound system or even a sound bar. This Pioneer receiver would help give me a movie theater sound experience and help me understand what people are saying exactly in movies and shoes as sometimes it’s hard to make out what their saying on my tv’s audio because the audio isn’t the best and not the most clear. Many times when people are talking the audio is low but then it’s really loud for action scenes so this receiver would allow me to adjust the audio so it’s balanced just right and the sounds would all sound natural and clear. I would Love to have this!
I use my TV’s speakers
I have a 5.1 setup for my home theatre, but it’s due for an upgrade if I want better speakers
TV speakers, not great. The Dolby Atmos will increase it substantially.
i dont have a reciever or home theatre
just use the tv speakers. it would make stuff sound better
I learned what Dolby Atmos was, from that article.
I don’t have one. So need something to upgrade.
I only use tv built-in speakers for my extended family so the surround sound experience would have a huge impact for us
I only have a soundbar, so this receiver would go a long way to improving my movie watching experience.
I only have a homepod so it would be a huge upgrade.
I don’t have one so anything is an upgrade!
Old Yamaha receiver and def tech speekers.
We currently use a Vizio soundbar (VSB200) paired with a Sony subwoofer (SA-CS9) for our home theatre audio. Its better than tv speakers but leaves much room for improvement. This Pioneer VSX-935 receiver would provide vastly improved sound quality over the soundbar, even before using the MCACC room correction feature. With a handful of decent speakers we could also have surround sound. We would be able to run more audio from more devices through this receiver than we do now with our soundbar which only has three inputs (2 x RCA and 1 x S/PDIF).
I listen with my tv soundbar or my cordless portable Sony speaker or my pc speakers.
I use my TV’s built-in speakers.
I don’t have a home theatre so this would be a great addition. At this time I use my TV speakers and they lack volume and quality.
I learned what Dolby Atmos was, from that article.
I don’t have a home theatre. I listen to my TV through the built-in speakers. That’s why I think this receiver would probably improve my listening experience considerably.
I would love this receiver to have movie nights with my wife, and have a better sound experience
