Airthings Wave radon detector reviewNovember is Radon action month. Did you know that radon gas that seeps up from radioactive elements deep underground can collect in your home? You can’t smell it, taste it, or see it either. And radon is deadly, leading to more cases of lung cancer than any other cause for non-smokers. To help raise awareness of the dangers of radon, Best Buy is giving away 2 sets of Airthings monitors in this contest.

How can you be sure the air in your home is safe?

Your home is your sanctuary, a place you relax and unwind, enjoying time with your family. The last thing you need is a silent, odourless, invisible pest; and there is no nastier pest than radon gas. In Canada alone, over 3000 people die each year due to illnesses caused by radon (takeactiononradon.ca). That’s more than from car accidents!

Radon gas is a naturally occurring product of radioactive elements in the soil. It gets into our homes from the ground, and since it is heavier than air, it can collect in our homes and concentrate to hazardous levels. You can act to reduce it if you know it’s a problem in your home. Airthings smart monitors can measure the radon levels continuously and send those reading right to an app on your phone. In addition, the newest Airthings Wave Plus can measure radon, CO2, and other harmful substances for added protection (One of the prizes for this contest includes a Wave Plus!).

Radon levels are different all over the country

Last year, I sent one Airthings Wave monitor to writers across the country; the readings were then published in a review by Brad Moon on our blog. As you can see from the graph (reproduced here), radon levels vary a lot from place to place.

Best Buy has many kinds of smart technology designed to make your home safer. There are smart cameras, smart lights, smart sensors, and more. Using a monitor designed to detect radon is one way to keep your home safe. And, since placement is so important, you might need more than one if your home has multiple levels. That’s why we are giving each winner of this contest two monitors: so the air you breathe in your home can be safer.

How to enter

Entering is easy, but you can only enter once. First look at the smart home section of Best Buy’s website, then tell us another product (besides Airthings radon monitors) that you think would increase the safety of your home.

What you can win

At the end of this contest, we will select two (2) winners from all eligible entries. One person will win an Airthings Wave Plus and an Airthings Wave, the other person will receive an Airthings Wave and an Airthings Corentium Radon Gas Monitor.

This contest runs from November 28th to December 12th.

Remember, you can only enter once, but tell your family about the risks posed by radon gas so they too can act to protect their home.

  1. Google nest camera….there are so many break and enters in our neighbourhood and I have kids aged 5 and 2.

  2. I have been eyeing the Arlo Pro 3 security cameras… not sure if I need the color night vision or if the Arlo Pro 2 may be enough. The gadget person in me wants the 3. Good luck everyone! I just moved to a new home in Kanata, ON and radon can be an issue in the area. I would love to get the peace of mind of knowing if my home if safe for me and my family.
