electric toothbrush

When it comes to brushing your teeth, less is definitely not more. How much brushing is enough? It can be hard to figure out, especially when you’re standing in front of the mirror brushing early in the morning or late at night.

That’s why an electric toothbrush is such a worthwhile device to own. Unlike a manual toothbrush, an electric toothbrush can scrub your teeth and gums just like your hygienist, tell you exactly how long you need to brush, and can reduce plaque so your trips to the dentist aren’t as painful.

Here’s four solid reasons why you should upgrade to an electric toothbrush.

An electric toothbrush gets your teeth cleaner

A manual toothbrush can only manage 300 strokes per minute, and that’s only if you’re really working at it. If you have arthritis, limited mobility or dexterity issues, it can be lower than 300 strokes.

With an electric toothbrush you can turn on the brush and it will brush at a rate of 1000 strokes per minute with no effort on your part. Just roll the brush across your teeth and your electric toothbrush will do the job.

Built in timers mean you’ll never wonder how long to brush again

One of the absolute best parts of owning an electric toothbrush are the built in timers. They make brushing properly so easy, you’ll wonder how you ever lived without one.

Some models of electric toothbrush have timers that ‘ping’ every 30 seconds to let you know when you’ve spent enough time in one area. Depending on the brush it may run for 2 minutes or 2 and a half minutes, and when you’ve spent enough time brushing it will turn off on its own.

Built in timers are a great way to always know you’re brushing long enough, and they’re perfect for kids who brush too fast and don’t spend enough time on certain areas of their teeth.

An electric toothbrush protects your teeth and gums

There’s always a chance you can brush so hard your teeth or gums start bleeding. That’s not a great feeling, and it can make your mouth so sore you’re more likely to skip brushing altogether.

With an electric toothbrush you don’t have to worry about how hard you’re pressing because the toothbrush itself exerts constant, gentle pressure. Because of the timers you won’t spend too much time in one area, and they can efficiently remove the plaque build up that causes gum diseases like gingivitis.

Electric toothbrushes are better for the environment

Dentists recommend you replace your toothbrush every three months. If you consider all of the people tossing their toothbrushes, that’s a lot of waste that ends up in a landfill.

With an electric toothbrush you only need to replace the head of the toothbrush. Because it’s half the size, you’re saving on waste.

Just try an electric toothbrush and you’ll see: they make your teeth feel cleaner, you’ll have fresher breath because your gums will be healthier, and your dentist will be happy because you’re spending the time to take care of your teeth.
