outdoor activity

There’s nothing quite so refreshing—both physically and for one’s mental health, as a healthy dose of outdoor activity in the fresh air and sunshine. And now that spring has arrived, I thought I should discuss a few fun ways to get out there and enjoy the freedom and energy of the great outdoors. By the end of this article, I hope to inspire you to explore several different aspects of Sports & Recreation that will get you outside and enjoying the elements in your area. Whatever the weather might be, getting right in the middle of it is sure to give you a positive boost of mental energy!

Going for a bike (or similar) ride

One of the very best ways to get outside and enjoy the sunshine at this time of year is to go for a ride on your Bicycle or similar conveyance, like a Scooter, Hoverboard, or Skateboard. Not only will this provide a great cardiovascular workout, but it’s also a great way to get out and see the sights in and around your neighbourhood or a new place you’re visiting.

Of course, if you’re not quite up to pedalling a bike or balancing on one of those other contraptions yourself, you can always opt for one of the many modern Electric Bikes that are now available. You’ll still enjoy a healthy dose of exercise and the fresh air and scenic views of whatever path you take, but you won’t have to do all the work yourself as the bike will kick in an electronic pedal assist to help you out. It won’t do all of the work for you, but it’ll make a big difference when you need a little help.

Electric Scooters are another great alternative, provided you can balance on one yourself. Having reviewed several of these scooters myself in the past, I can assure you that balance is not really all that much of an issue. For instance, it’s nothing like riding a skateboard, where skill and balance are everything. The handlebars on scooters really make balancing easy, and there are even hand brakes so you don’t get out of control.

Playing your favourite sports

If you love watching sports, the only thing better is playing them! And at this time of year when the ponds are no longer frozen, you might want to go with something more suited to the season, such as basketball.

The Basketball Equipment at Best Buy consists of hoops with nets and backboards and a variety of different basketballs, so there’s plenty available to work with if you don’t already have a backyard hoop on your property. If you do, however, I suggest taking advantage of that fact and getting out there for at least 20-30 minutes a day just to mess around dribbling and shooting. If you have someone available to play a little 1-on-1 with, all the better!

And if basketball isn’t your thing, there are plenty of other Sporting Goods available with which to get some outdoor activity in. Golf, for instance, is a great way to spend some time in the sun that also involves a serious dose of walking and getting some great low-intensity exercise.

Of course, if golf isn’t quite your speed, there’s also Soccer Equipment available so you can do some running and kicking. All you really need is a ball and a little bit of open space to have fun and get some exercise in. But whatever sport you enjoy, it’s a whole lot more beneficial to you to get out there and actually participate than to just watch it on TV.

Camping and hiking

One of the very best ways there is to get out and enjoy the fresh air is to go on a camping trip or a challenging hike. Then again, why not do both at once? Either way, this type of outdoor activity is sure to get you back in touch with nature in a way that’s beneficial to both your mental and physical health.

Luckily, Best Buy has plenty of great Camping & Hiking Equipment to help you get started. They’ve also got Camping Stoves & Cooking Equipment so you can enjoy a tasty camping cookout after a long day of hiking and exploring. And if you’re anything like me, the camping cookout is your favourite part of the trip!

Just think of all the beautiful scenery you could possibly see if you went on a camping road trip with your family or a handful of friends. There’s nothing quite like the fun and adventure of a road trip, and when you combine that with the freedom of camping and not even necessarily setting out with a firm destination in mind, anything can happen!

Stargazing with a powerful telescope

Perhaps you’re a creature of the night, like me? If so, then stargazing through a powerful Telescope might just be the thing for you. This type of outdoor activity will not only get you a healthy helping of fresh, night air, but it also provides the opportunity to see some truly spectacular sights in the gorgeous nighttime sky.

For this activity, you want a mostly clear sky in a very dark area—typically somewhere well away from any major town or city. You don’t have to live in such a quiet place, but it doesn’t hurt to seek one out when you want to use your telescope. A full or near-full Moon is also not desired, as that creates a lot of excess light in the nighttime sky that will only hinder your view of the stars and solar system. Bottom line, when it comes to exploring the cosmos with the aid of a powerful telescope, the clearer and darker the night, the better!

As you can see, there’s no shortage of ways to get out in the elements and improve both your physical and mental health this spring. And I didn’t even talk about Water Sports & Boating, because many parts of the country aren’t quite there yet. But that time is coming soon too, so it doesn’t hurt to start thinking about it. For now, the main thing is to get outside and ward off cabin fever with some fun physical activity. So have fun and enjoy the great outdoors this spring!
