Like many people, every New Year I resolve to become the healthiest version of myself possible. I always heave the best of intentions, but inevitably, within a few weeks, reality hits and I revert back to my old habits. Granted, those habits aren’t the worst in the world, but they aren’t going to get me to where I want to be physically and mentally. That’s why this year I’ve built a plan for myself that actually accounts for the fact that I lead an exceptionally busy life and can’t always stay on track, especially when it comes to my diet.

My plan includes two days of weight training, two days of cardio, and a balanced diet with room for cheats here and there. Perhaps most importantly though, it includes Vega protein powder so I never have an excuse to skip a meal or opt for fast food, and can recover properly between workouts.

vega-protein-powderWhy Protein Powder?

So, why am I including protein powder in my plan to get fit and healthy? Well, for two main reasons. First, protein powder can be used as a meal replacement, so when I am busy and on the go, I can grab a shake or make a smoothie instead of popping out for take out. I’ll be able to get all the nutrients I need to keep going with my day while staying on track with my plan by being in control of my fat and calorie intake.

Second, protein powder can play a big role in recovery after a workout. During exercise, muscle tissues are torn–which sounds horrible by the way–and they must be rebuilt in order for them to develop. Protein powder works wonders in helping with this rebuilding process.

The Vega Protein Powder Difference

While most protein powders out there offer these two main benefits, what sets Vega protein powders apart is that they are entirely plant-based. According to the Vega website, eating more plant-based foods reduces the likelihood of many chronic diseases, including high cholesterol, hypertension, and type 2 diabetes.

Not only are they plant-based, but Vega’s nutrient dense protein powders are certified vegan, gluten-free, and non-GMO, and are made without dairy or soy ingredients, artificial flavours, colors or sweeteners. That makes them ideal for people like me with sensitivities to dairy and gluten, as well as vegetarians, vegans, and anyone who simply wants to incorporate more plant-based products into their lifestyle.

Vega protein powders can be grouped into two main categories: Active Lifestyle and Performance, and there are benefits to each group.

The protein powders under the Vega “Active Lifestyle” umbrella can be considered “entry-level” everyday proteins that can easily be incorporated into anyone’s diet or fitness regimen. They can be used as a dietary supplement for those who aren’t getting enough of their recommended daily nutrients, or as a meal replacement or snack for those who are on the go and can’t always rely on a well balanced meal.

Both the Vega All-In-One Nutritional Shake and Vega Protein & Greens are full of protein, veggies, vitamins, probiotics, and antioxidants to give your body the boost it needs. You can also blend them, shake them, or bake them with some of your favourite ingredients to make on-the-go meals you can grab whenever you’re in a time crunch.

Personally, I like to use protein powder in smoothies. They are easy to whip up any time of day, and are a great way to use up ingredients you have kicking around in your fridge. Add to that the fact that you can cart smoothies with you en route to the office, gym, or wherever your day make take you and they are beyond convenient.

Vega protein powders are also exceptionally versatile in that they can be used for much more than just smoothies.

These people also need more protein to support their high-intensity training programs.
