Philips 2200 Automatic Espresso Machine ReviewChoosing a coffee maker is no easy task, especially if you like to drink different types of coffee. What if you like drip coffee, single-serve coffee, and the occasional cappuccino? You’ll need a coffee maker that does it all. After testing out the Philips 2200 Automatic Espresso Machine with LatteGo Milk Frother, I’m pretty confident this is a coffee maker that covers all the bases.

The Philips 2200 Automatic Espresso Machine is an automatic espresso machine that grinds your coffee beans, pours an espresso shot, makes one or two cups of coffee, or brews up a cup of hot water. It uses the LatteGo Milk Frother to steam milk to make cappuccino, and all you have to do is stand in front of the machine and wait for your drink. When it’s done it deposits the coffee grinds in a bin underneath the machine, so other than rinsing out your milk frother, there’s no clean up at all.

The Philips 2200 Automatic Espresso Machine with LatteGo Milk Frother is an all-in-one coffee maker that’s the perfect choice for anyone who loves all types of coffee but doesn’t want to learn how to pull the perfect espresso shot or how to make the best cappuccino. Here’s how it works and what I thought of the Philips 2200 Automatic Espresso Machine.

Is Philips 2200 a good espresso machine?

Testing the Philips 2200 automatic espresso machine

Whenever I test out a coffee maker or espresso machine, I always work my way through a checklist of questions. Is it easy to use? How easy is it to clean? How good is the espresso shot or cup of coffee it produces, and how hot is the coffee when it’s extracted? All of these questions are pretty standard to anyone who loves coffee, and they give you a good idea of how the appliance would fit into your own home or family.

What surprised me the most when testing the Philips 2200 Automatic Espresso Machine is how neatly it replaces both of my coffee machines. I own a single-serve brewer and a manual espresso machine, and I use the single-serve more because I find the manual espresso machine takes more time than I have in the morning. That being said, I also love having a cappuccino once in a while, but to use my espresso machine I also need my coffee grinder.

When you have the Philips 2200 Automatic Espresso Machine, you don’t need a single-serve brewer or an espresso machine. It does everything, and instead of using single-serve cups to brew your coffee, you get a cup of coffee made with freshly ground beans.

Espresso Shot Philips 2200

Making coffee or espresso with the Philips 2200

An espresso machine is designed to make espresso, and if you’re buying an automatic espresso machine you’ll want to make sure it can pull a perfect shot. I tested out the espresso option on the Philips 2200 Automatic Espresso Machine at least 15 times over the past few weeks and it never failed to make the perfect shot.

You can choose your grind strength by tapping the menu, and it also lets you choose how many cups you’d like to make. It took about a minute for the shot to pour, and it had a nice cap of crema, was just the right size, and was the perfect flavour and temperature.

Because it grinds your beans, pours the shot, and then disposes of the puck when it’s done, there is nothing you need to do except stand in front of it and wait for it to pour. It has the same speed and ease of use as a single-serve brewer, but you get to choose between coffee and delicious espresso. The coffee it brews is just as good, and I love how you get a fresh cup of coffee made from fresh beans.

Philips 2200 Espresso Machine LatteGo

Making a cappuccino with the LatteGo milk frother

A cappuccino is steamed milk layered with an espresso shot, and I was so impressed with how well the Philips 2200 Automatic Espresso Machine made a cappuccino. You pour cold milk into the LatteGo milk frother, turn on the machine, tap the cappuccino button, and the machine will begin steaming milk. It pours the hot milk into your cup and then pours the espresso shot over it.

The cappuccino rivals some that I’ve seen made in a coffee shop. The layers were perfect and the taste was amazing. I’ve become a huge fan of daily cappuccinos thanks to the Philips 2200.

Hot Water Philips Automatic Espresso Machine

When you are done using the milk frother you can just rinse it out and place it back on the machine. Hot milk won’t stick to the plastic in the same way it does to a steam wand, so it cleans up quickly. When you’d like a cup of hot water, it’s distributed via the LatteGo milk frother. The water it poured was around 170 degrees, so it was very hot.

Notification lights make it easy to see when you need to clean

The Philips 2200 Automatic Espresso Machine has several lights on the touchscreen to alert you to when you are out of water, out of coffee beans, and if your machine needs to be cleaned. It has an AquaClean filter so you can run your espresso machine for up to 5,000 cups without needing to descale. If you do need to descale it will light up on the screen so you know it’s time.

The detachable parts of the Philips 2200 Automatic Espresso Machine are dishwasher safe, but they are just as easy to clean by running them under running water in the sink.

Should you choose the Philips 2200 Automatic Espresso Machine?

With the Philips 2200 Automatic Espresso Machine, you don’t have to choose between a drip brewer, single-serve brewer, and an automatic espresso machine. It’s a 3-in-1 appliance so it makes all of your favourite hot drinks. In my opinion, that’s a win-win.

Most of the time I’m in such a morning rush that I just want to drink the espresso; I don’t always want to worry about pulling the perfect shot. With the Philips 2200 Automatic Espresso Machine you get a perfect shot every time, and there is no guesswork involved. If you just feel like having coffee instead, you can do that too.

You’re not exactly limited to the three beverages on the screen either. You have to use two mugs at one time but you can easily make a latte or Americano if you know how to make them. The options just aren’t offered on the touchscreen.

You can find the Philips 2200 Automatic Espresso Machine with LatteGo Milk Frother on Best Buy right now. Keep this one in mind for the holidays, because I think it’s the perfect gift for anyone who loves coffee.
