A story for all ages

In LEGO Jurassic World, you take on the role of many of the iconic Jurassic Park film characters from each of the movies. My favourite character is Owen Grady, a dinosaur researcher employed by Jurassic World, who conducts behavioural research on Velociraptors. He is just as cool and daring as he is on the big screen. In addition, you will explore five story levels from each of the four movies on a mission to collect priceless amber containing rare dinosaur DNA.

Play with, create, and be a dinosaur

LEGO Jurassic World contains all the same great level exploration, platforming, and puzzle gameplay elements that you have come to love from the previous LEGO titles in addition to some new and interesting features.

For example, you can, for the first time in a LEGO game, play as a mighty dinosaur. With over 20 different dinosaurs to choose from, you can help your human friends out of sticky situations and solve puzzles. Or, take part in an open pursuit, chasing human foes across the vast open fields in hopes of catching and eating one. Playing as a dinosaur in a LEGO game is simply stupendous!

Another new feature of this game is the ability to create your own original dinosaur with the Dino Customizer. Mix and match dinosaur body parts, abilities, colours, and change your dinosaurs DNA to come up with some truly bizarre creations. My son and I spent countless hours designing and creating some of the weirdest dinosaurs you could imagine. The best part is, you can then go back and use these dinosaur you have created and play the game as the beasts themselves. How neat is that!

Drop-in, drop-out co-op gameplay

If your playing on a home console, you can use LEGO video games’ classic drop-in, drop-out co-op gameplay. You, and your family and friends can enjoy LEGO Jurassic World together. Simply sync a second controller and your instantly having multiplayer fun without having to quit the game or navigate to any menus. It’s that easy!

A world free to explore

The land in LEGO Jurassic World is yours to explore and interact with. You will be in awe, as the world has a distinct and unique feel to it, which is a breath of fresh air from the largely populated previous super hero LEGO games. There are plenty of intelligent and unique puzzles to uncover that offer just the right level of difficulty to keep you on your toes, and coming back for more. I loved the fact that I could take my time to experience the surroundings in LEGO Jurassic World without the constant onslaught of enemies that many previous LEGO games have.

More characters to play as than you can shake a stick at

LEGO games are known for their expansive unlockable characters, and LEGO Jurassic World does not disappoint, with 120 characters, over 20 vehicles, and 20 dinosaurs to unlock there is plenty to keep you busy. As in previous LEGO games, unlocking these characters opens up hidden items in the game that can only be unlocked with certain characters special weapons and abilities. Using your characters abilities to climb, dig, assemble and search you will find yourself compelled to unlock all 120 of the beloved Jurassic Park franchise characters.

Iconic LEGO look and feel

LEGO Jurassic World looks fantastic regardless of which system you are playing on, as it faithfully recreates the Jurassic Park world from the movies that fans have come to love. From the rippling water effects on the river, to the amazing textures used in the environment, the LEGO jungle is awe-inspiring. With a sense and feel that the world is massive, you are instantly drawn into the Jurassic Park world, never wanting to leave.

Music-Evoked Nostalgia

Fans of the Jurassic Park movies will instantly recognize that the in-game music is taken directly from the Hollywood blockbuster movies. To keep things fresh, TT Games added some slight variations to the music tracks, but the dynamic sound that is accustom with the movies fits perfectly into each of the different game locations.

All your typical LEGO construction and destruction sounds are present along with some great ambient sounds effects that set the tone for each of the movies within the game perfectly. However, some of the voices in the game are taken directly from the original movies and in turn suffer from digital processing that is noticeable. At the same time, you are treated to fantastic famous quotes from the movies that will instantly evoke a sense of nostalgia.

Final thoughts

LEGO Jurassic World is a game that is fun for the entire family. The drop-in, drop-out co-op gameplay made it easy for my wife and two children to hop in and help me out at any point in the game. The ability to create your own dinosaur was the best part of the game for my 11 year old son. Even after we had completed all four Jurassic Park movies, we both went back and spent hours upon end coming up with our own dinosaur creations.

With a mixture of familiar brick-building gameplay and new features, LEGO Jurassic World is an adventure that you and your family will not soon forget.

+ Familiar gameplay and controls from previous LEGO games
+ Creating your own dinosaur and playing as them in the game is simply fun
+ Extensive amount of unlockable characters, vehicles, and dinosaurs will keep you playing long after the story is over

– Occasional glitches in the game can cause you to have to quit and restart the area
– Voices taken directly from the movies suffer digital processing
