Prince of Persia The Lost Crown

A legendary quest

In The Lost Crown, you set out on a quest as you take on the role of Sargon, a member of the Immortals, an elite group of warriors dedicated to protecting Persia. When Prince Ghassan, the son of the Persian queen, is kidnapped, as Sargon you must rescue him from the treacherous Mount Qaf. Without a doubt, The Lost Crown wastes no time in dropping you right into an epic adventure from the get go.

As you make your way through Mount Qaf, you encounter a wide variety of challenges and obstacles. Along the way, you face well equipped enemies, traps, and even dangerous environments. After only a few hours into the game, I really appreciated the game’s level design. It offers a near perfect balance between exploration and action. And, one of the things that I particularly enjoyed while playing is the amount of detail that has been put into each location. Honestly, there’s an incredible amount of detail and atmosphere that has been put into the game that goes a long way to immerse you in the world around you.

The narrative of The Lost Crown is a captivating storyline that slowly unfolds through engaging dialogue and interactions with a diverse cast of characters, each with their own unique motivations and stories. From the mysterious Artaban to the noble Vahram, as the story unfolds, you form deep connections with your companions. Along with the game’s rich lore and intricate plot twists, it kept me invested and pushed me forward to uncover the many secrets within Mount Qaf.

Prince of Persia The Lost Crown

Seamless exploration and thrilling combat

If there is one thing clear, it’s that exploration is key in The Lost Crown. As you make your way through Mount Qaf, new paths and hidden areas open up. These new paths and hidden areas allow you to go further and reach places that you previously were unable to. From ancient ruins to lush forests, the team at Ubisoft Montpellier did a great job of creating a visually stunning world that literally begs you to explore it. And, to top it off, the game’s smooth and precise platforming mechanics allow you to easily leap, dash, and climb your way through the world around you.

As much as I enjoyed the game’s exploration, I found the combat to be equally as enjoyable. Sargon’s dual swords become an extension of your skill, allowing for fluid and acrobatic combat sequences. And, to be honest, there’s nothing more satisfying than unleashing devastating combos, parrying enemy attacks, and executing perfectly timed dodges. It just feels so satisfying. On the other hand, Boss fights are truly epic and are a highlight of the combat experience in The Lost Crown.

Bosses provide intense and challenging experiences that require quick reflexes and strategic thinking. And, what I really like about boss fights is that each boss has its own unique attack patterns and weaknesses. So, this means that you have to adapt your attack strategies for each and every boss. Whether you’re jumping from platform to platform or engaging in sword fights, The Lost Crown definitely keeps you on your toes. And, in a satisfying way, you are constantly pushed to explore new areas and test your skills. It’s this that really makes The Lost Crown standout from other games in the same genre.

Stunning visuals and an enchanting soundtrack

In addition to The Lost Crown’s engaging narrative and fluid gameplay, the game’s visuals and soundtrack cap off the immersive experience. As I mentioned earlier, the game’s environments and the amount of detail put into each location are truly amazing. And, the attention to detail extends to the game’s character models as well. Each character is expertly crafted and animated, with unique designs that bring them to life. From Sargon to the various NPCs, the cel-shading visual presentation adds depth and personality to the characters in the game.

In addition to The Lost Crown’s visuals, the soundtrack really helps set the mood and enhances the overall atmosphere of the game. The music is carefully curated to match the action on the screen, whether it’s an intense battle or a quiet moment of reflection. The sound design also plays a big roll in the world of The Lost Crown. From the sound of footsteps echoing through ancient corridors to the clash of swords in combat, every sound effect enhances the sense of presence and immersion.

Prince of Persia The Lost Crown is one of if not the best game in the Prince of Persia series

Prince of Persia The Lost Crown is an outstanding addition to the Metroidvania genre and in my opinion is one of if not the best games in the Prince of Persia series. It delivers a captivating and immersive experience filled with rewarding exploration, seamless platforming, and satisfying combat.

The game’s narrative gradually unfolds to reveal a rich and intriguing world, filled with a variety of characters that have their own motivations and stories. While the amount of characters you meet initially feels somewhat overwhelming, the gameplay and character interactions make up for it. The combat system is my favourite part of The Lost Crown, with its fluid and precise mechanics. And, you can customize the difficulty level to suit your skill at anytime. Additionally, I really liked the inclusion of special moves and collectible amulets. I felt that it adds depth to combat, while allowing you to experiment and find your own personal playstyle.

Visually, The Lost Crown looks fantastic. With its detailed environments, stunning backgrounds, and well-designed character models, the team at Ubisoft did a great job in bringing the game’s world to life. With its challenging, yet rewarding gameplay, captivating story, and impressive visuals, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is a must-play for fans of the genre and the series. It provides a memorable and enjoyable experience that will keep you engaged from start to finish.
