An all-out world war

We also learned today a little bit about the story in EA and DICE’s upcoming first person shooter. As the story goes, the world is on the brink and shortages of food, energy and clean water have led to dozens of failed nations. As a result, this has created the greatest refugee crisis in human history.

Amidst this crisis, the United States and Russia draw the world into an all-out war. Gamers will jump into the boots of Specialists, an all-new type of playable soldier. Inspired by the traditional 4 Battlefield classes, Specialists are equipped with their own unique trait and specialty and have fully customizable loadouts.

As a Specialist, gamers will have access to a cutting-edge arsenal of weapons, equipment and vehicles to use in battle.

Battlefield 2042

The biggest, most ambitious title in the Battlefield franchise

Both EA and DICE promise that Battlefield 2042 is not only the biggest but the most ambitious game in the series. Several new features include:

  • All-Out Warfare – the next generation of fan-favourite modes Conquest and Breakthrough with up to 128 players on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. Experience All-Out Warfare in large-scale battles like never before on maps filled with dynamic weather, environmental hazards and world events such as tornadoes that rip across the map and sandstorms that block out the sun.
  • Hazard Zone – is an all-new squad-based game-type that is very different from All-Out Warfare’s Conquest or Breakthrough modes.
  • TO BE ANNOUNCED – the third experience is an exciting new game-type. EA and DICE promise this new experience will have long-time players feeling right. More details will be revealed during EA Play Live on July 22, 2021.

Battlefield 2042 launches October 22, 2021

  1. Adding dynamic weather and environmental hazards is a really cool idea that not only provides a cool visual, but can be potentially used to get players to stay mobile and limit camping in one spot the entire match; the tornado being the perfect device for this.

From what I’ve heard, this game does not have a campaign, which means DICE can focus on the multiplayer experience, of which the overwhelming majority of people play when it comes to Battlefield games, so hopefully the online experience will be amazing for all the people who play it. It is also interesting that the 128 person multiplayer seems to be limited to PS5, Series X/S and PC; we are really starting to see what can be done with next-gen hardware.

  2. Call of duty who? THIS is going to be the game to play, with up to 128 players at the same time? Insanity to the max.
    Will definitely pick up

  3. It’s been a really long time since I played any Battlefield franchise games – I used to be really into the Project Reality mod on the PC. Those days were filled with fun realistic squad tactics.

I can’t believe Battlefield 2042 is capable of 128 players. Holy cow. On both console and PC versions too.

    That’s gonna be insane!

  4. So games like this don’t make it on to the Switch? Maybe we’ll get Battlefield vs Pokemon.

  5. I’ve only dabbled in Battlefield games – however, I’ve devoted a lot of my life to Battlefront, so I certainly owe DICE for that. You piqued my interest with this post, so I watched the trailer – did that include real gameplay or just cinematic scenes? It looks pretty amazing.
