A television wall mount is a must-have for any television owner. Whether you’ve recently bought a new television or you want to upgrade your current one, a wall mount will give your television a clean, minimalist look on the wall or in the cupboard. If you have young children, it also makes it safer as it places your television up and away and helps to avoid any accidents or injuries.

There are three common types of television wall mounts and they all have pros and cons depending on what you’re looking for and where you’re putting it.

Low Profile Wall Mount

Low profile wall mounts are completely fixed against the wall, you are not able to tilt or move the television at all. Because it doesn’t move at all, it is the easiest wall mount to install and also tends to have a lower price point. These mounts also sit very close to the wall, so they are good for smaller spaces and because it can’t be tilted or adjusted, it should be used for screens that are going to be installed at eye level.

Tilting Wall Mount

A tilting wall mount tends to be the most popular type of wall mount as it’s kind of a happy medium. It is reasonably easy to setup and allows your television some movement. It tilts up or down, making it great for when you’re putting your television higher up on the wall above eye level, like over your fireplace mantel. Though they vary depending on brand, most tilting wall mounts sit quite close to the wall, therefore they should be used when you are putting your television on a flat wall area, similar to the low profile wall mount. It also tends to hold larger, heavier televisions when compared to other mounts.

Full-Motion Wall Mount

The full-motion, or articulating, is most advanced type of wall mount. The mechanisms allow you the most flexibility in the placement and movement of your television. Tip: If you are thinking of investing in a full-motion television mount, make sure that your television cords look like they’ll be long enough to reach when the mount it fully pulled-out.

Wherever you plan on placing your television, there is a wall mount that suits your needs. Low profile wall mounts are easy to setup and are great for large plasmas that are being placed at eye level. Tilting wall mounts can be angled up or down, making it ideal for televisions that are being placed above or below eye level, such as above a high mantel. They are also the best option for heavier televisions. Lastly, if your television is going to be placed in a corner or deep shelf, a full motion wall mount is the best option as it allows the most mobility and versatility.

Though it may seem easier to plop your new television on the nearest flat surface and leave it at that, a wall mount will complement and enhance the look of your television. Though it may need a little extra work, the sweat will be well worth it!
