BenQ GV30 and GS50 projectorsJust because summer is almost over, doesn’t mean the fun has to stop. BenQ’s uniquely designed portable projectors—the GS50 and the GV30—are the perfect accessory to make any party or event truly memorable. Throw up a slideshow, watch movies or live streams, and play music all with just one device to have a good time with friends and family. Read on to find out what makes these projectors so special and how to enter for a chance to win one.

High-definition and immersive visuals for your viewing pleasure

GV30 vs GS50 ProjectionBoth the BenQ GV30 and the BenQ GS50 projectors are designed to be used in low to no-light environments. With them, you can project images between 30 inches to 100 inches in size to get optimal, bright high-definition quality. The GS50 projects at 1080p resolution with 500 lumens while the GV30 projects at 720p with 300 lumens. Now, you might think that 720p resolution means that the image just won’t look as good as a 1080p projection, but in Andy’s review of the GV30, you’ll see a comparison of projections from both these models side by side. And besides a colour variation, even if you look closely, you’d be hard-pressed to identify a noticeable difference in picture definition between the two.

Another reason these two little projectors are excellent choices for home theatre is their projection technology. Digital Light Processing (DLP) uses a chip made up of millions of tiny mirrors to reflect light from an LED lamp after it passes through a colour wheel. This type of projection results in higher colour accuracy and deeper contrast in shadows. Additionally, as opposed to laser projectors, DLP hardware is smaller and can fit inside more portable builds, allowing you to enjoy high-quality videos wherever you are—provided you have a flat, white surface to project on.

Portability and extra features make each projector a party favourite

The GV30 and GS50 come in cute, well-designed builds and can easily be transported anywhere with their built-in carrying straps and included carrying cases. Both also have about 2.5 hours of battery life so you can watch a movie completely wirelessly on a full charge. The 720p GV30 projector comes with a magnetic mount that allows you to easily and securely adjust the angle of projection to suit your needs. The 1080p GS50 projector has rubberized feet and a button-release kickstand for the same purpose. You can see its functionality and get the full effect of its cute, retro design in the GS50 review we posted on the blog. The GS50 is also IPX2 rated, meaning you can use it while it’s raining or by the pool without worrying about splashes!

We love a 2-in-1 device here on the blog, and both these projectors can also function as standalone Bluetooth speakers. So when you’re not using it for movie night, you can play music and enjoy the surprisingly powerful and dynamic audio that each produces. As our reviewer, Andy, put it, it’s like carrying a party in a box! As a bonus, both projectors come with wireless casting functionality and Android TV, opening up a whole world of media that you can project. What more could you want?

  1. Every Halloween, we pick a theme, decorate accordingly and rear project (from the garage) images or videos to align with the theme. We usually borrow a projector, but the GS50 would be ideal, given its size. Also, the fact that it is 1080p, would compensate for the fact that our screen is an old white bed sheet

  2. They are both awesome but if I had to pick, GV30 is magnetic so I think it would be handy being able to stick it someplace high up!

  3. These are both amazing projectors! If I had to choose I would take a GS50 Is it is waterproof and we could use it outdoors as well in our big backyard. EPIC movie nights for the family and maybe the neighbourhood LoL

  4. I would choose the 720p GV30 projector because it comes with a magnetic mount that allows you to easily and securely adjust the angle of projection to suit your needs.

  5. We would prefer the GS50 because it can output at the higher resolution of 1080p. This device is meant to throw the video output out so a higher resolution should keep things clean and sharp on a thrown outputted video.

  6. I prefer the GS50 not just because of it’s great feature set and portability, but because aesthetically speaking and in terms of standing, I feel more comfortable with it over the GS30 whose feature set is perfectly fine but the GS50 is a better fit.

  7. I would pick the GS50 because it is waterproof. That would be great for any surprise rain when watching movies outside.

  8. I would like to have the BenQ GV30 because it comes with a magnetic mount which allows you to easily and securely adjust the angle of projection.

  9. I would like the GS50 because it is waterproof and that is great for longevity to be protected against water damage

  10. GS50 – while both work wirelessly, which is incredible, I like the fact that this one is waterproof so if it’s lightly raining, misty outside, you can still enjoy watching a movie/tv show/documentary without worrying about the weather! They both sound incredible though! I’d love to have a projector to watch movies outside in the nice fall weather!

  11. I prefer the GS50 because I like that it can handle getting some water splashed on it. The kids would love to watch a video while floating in the pool.
