When buying a new TV, look for new tech that will last a very long time like that found in Sony’s latest selection of televisions. Most people don’t purchase televisions frequently. We want the few that we do buy, to last a long time. As such, it’s best to choose from a list of the largest most up to date televisions available within your price range. The TV we are giving away in this contest, a Sony BRAVIA XR X95K 75″ 4K UHD HDR Mini-LED Smart Google TV,  is likely going to be at the top of that list for many people.

How long should a new TV last

My living room television is very old. I bought it about twenty years ago. I found a good deal at that time on a very thin, forty inch, which at the time seemed huge, 1080p resolution Sony TV and have loved the image quality and performance ever since. In fact, the image seems just as good as it was when I bought it. I paid as much as I could afford on a TV at the time and feel like I got excellent value for my money.

I think that is the real barometer for how long a TV should last. I bought a 4k TV for my mother-in-law about 6 years ago and it stopped working after about 3.5 years. And it was could not be repaired! Obviously that set was a disappointment. It wasn’t a Sony, but I did replace her broken set with a Sony. The best part about this story was that I bought four-year Geek Squad protection, and it returned the full value of the set that broke, which I applied to the new Sony TV.

How to choose the best TV for your needs

Earlier this week, a friend asked for my help selecting a new TV for his home. I brought up the Best Buy online selection of televisions and explained the key factors he should consider, asking a few important questions. We narrowed down his options to a list of about a half-dozen candidates. Importantly, we started with brand: he said that he has always bought Sony and is most familiar with that brand. Apple users tend to stick with apple, Microsoft fans tend to stick with windows tech, Samsung fans stick with Samsung (admittedly I fall into this category for phone tech!) and Sony fans stick with Sony.

The second consideration I brought up with him was TV size. He explained that he measured the space on his wall where the TV will be mounted and didn’t think he had ceiling height for anything bigger than about 75 inches. The considerations we brought up then were between 72 and 78 inches: I suggested he get the biggest set he can accommodate for maximum enjoyment as long as he owns the TV.

Lastly, we talked about the newest technology and screen resolution. I explained that the newest tech is Mini-LED which is credited with producing an image that rivals an OLED screen. I explained how the image is created and the pros and cons of Mini-LED vs OLED. Read this detailed article to learn for yourself. I explained that either choice will be amazing for his home. Which one would you choose if you were him?

The newest tech is the Sony Mini-LED and you have a chance to win one just like those I was suggesting for my friend in this contest. We sent this TV for an honest review. So read that review then return here to enter the contest.

  1. top 2:
    1) Size – my space is limited
    2) IO – it needs to look like receiver on the back… i like plenty of options

  2. Size and resolution are a priority for me so my neighbor can watch from his house now instead of standing outside my window yelling at me to change the channel.

  3. Size and picture quality are 2 main components I look for. Another consideration is the software it runs on too.

  4. 1. Gaming features (low latency, high refresh rate, full bandwidth HDMI 2.1)
    2. Good HDR support

  5. 1. HDR
    2. Trustworthy smart platform. I don’t want it if I can’t trust that it will provide security updates and not suddenly start flooding me with ads

  6. My 2 top priorities for choosing a TV
    1. Size I want a bigger size which is affordable for living room
    2. Reliability I want a set that can last for at least 5 years with the latest features

  7. My top 2 priorities in picking a new TV are resolution and refresh rate! Must be 4k and must have a great refresh rate to take advantage of the capabilities of my PS5

My favourite part about the Sony Bravia mentioned i’m the blog is definitely the size! I’m currently running 50inch TV. A 75 inch TV would change everything from an entertainment standpoint!

Thank you for the opportunity Best Buy. Hope I win

  8. First – 120Hz is a must. Secondly – the number of available ports.

    Thank you for the opportunity.

  9. Size! Bigger is better…and being a smart TV, the chipset should be fast. I have an underperforming Smart TV

  10. I made the mistake of not paying attention to delay and refresh rate when buying my last TV and it was not a great TV for gaming, but was amazing for movies/tv so:
    1) refresh rate
    2) 4K

  11. Oh wow. I’m a fan of this Sony TV model for sure. My favourite features are:

    1) the PS5 exclusive features reducing motion control and motion blur
    2) 4k/120hz. It’s a must moving forward with hdmi 2.1

  12. Two things I look for when buying a new tv are:

    1) Overall picture quality (how does it compare with other top TVs on the market)
    2) Does it have up to date features and components (HDMI 2.1 etc.)

  13. In the market for a new TV and the first thing I look for is:

    1. Does it have HDMI 2.1?
    2. Is it compatible with a sound bar via EARC?

  14. Top two features I look for in a tv are:
    1. 4K resolution, must have crisp ultra sharp picture quality when watching movies!
    2. HDMI ports, the tv needs to have many for all my gaming consoles!

  15. HDMI ports and 4K Visuals! My current TV has some burn in so this win would be gaming life changing. These are a must for consoles and set ups! Thank you so much for the chance!

  16. For the last TV I bought the two big things were resolution (had to be 4K) and picture quality (backlight, HDR, refresh rate)

  17. There are a few things I look for in a new television. That includes the picture quality (for watching 4k movies), smart TV features (saves me having to hook in a Chromecast or Fire stick) and fast response time for gaming.

  18. My parents only ever bought Sony and I have done the same, any other brand certainly has not lasted as long as my Sony ever has. I look for picture quality, size and how sturdy they are. With younger kids, I have had screens break because a toy was “accidentally “ thrown so I look for something that will not fall of the stand. I am also limited to size with a tv above the fireplace and built in cabinets.

  19. Two features I look for are:

Quality of picture – 4K technology and refresh rates.
Screen viewing angle and reflective qualities as I put this in a fairly bright room.

One feature that wowed me about this middle is the sound. As per feature on your site: Two sound-positioning tweeter, front-firing speakers, dual subwoofers, and Dolby Atmos support deliver cinematic audio so you can immerse yourself in the sound

This would TV would make me cry with how beautiful and full feature it is!

  20. Nowadays, the two features I look for in a TV are:
    1) It has to be at least 4K resolution
    2) It has to have at least 60 Hz or ideally 120 Hz refresh rate for smoothness
